Talked to lady on phone, asked if there were any free trials for me and my friend to try. She said yes in 20 minutes. She also asked us our age on the phone and we said we were 17 years old. She said that would be fine. We get here, 15 min drive. Waste gas only for some guy to tell us we can't do it because we aren't 18 yet. Chozen MMA is the best place for all ages. They cater to kids, pre teens, young adults, and adults. The Sensei's boost up their student's confidence (which some pre teens are lacking, nowadays). The Sensei's make sure that their students masters every steps/levels of their students and they pay attention to the student's weakness. My daughter has been with Chozen for almost a year and she loves her Senseis and new friends. She loves going to her classes which she was very hesitant in the beginning. I was looking for a karate class for my son. I reached out to two main studios in the area. The other studio, which is probably the other one you are looking at, still has not reached out to me and it has been 4 months. I sent emails and filled out their online forms. I also tried to call them, but it took me to someone's cell phone with voicemail not set up. After checking out Chozen, I was texting with the owner that night and had a private lesson set up the next day. The schedule is very flexible and works well for our family. Chozen doesn't feel like the typical studio to us, it's very family-like. For example, the instructors work really hard to know every student's name and they actually care about their success. One of my favorite examples of the family atmosphere was a young guy about 4-5 years old who was having a bad day and kept crying and didn't want to wear his belt in class. I watched the instructors rotate so the other students didn't miss a thing, the second instructor came over and took a knee to talk to him. He spent probably 5 minutes one-on-one with this kid and finished with an encouraging, but yet firm answer. I heard him say, "you can come back whenever you are ready, but you have to wear your belt." At the same time, the other students didn't even notice this was happening because the other instructor took over. For us, my 9-year-old is growing both in his skill here, but we also are seeing growth in his confidence and maturity. We are only a few months in, but I'm very happy with his experience and growth. My 5-year-old daughter is about 1 month in. She needs to develop self-control and I have seen a totally different side of her during her classes. I'm looking forward to where this takes her. My only regret is not finding Chozen sooner. read more

What I really love about @chozenmartialartslv is they aren't like other dojos where it's a RACE to get new belts and a race to push tournaments! The staff and Senseis here really take the time to help the kids develop not just their karate skills, but their attitudes, and behaviors too! Kids had a great time in the tiny tigers group. My youngest grew up without a father so having Sensei Zion's leadership was much needed. He needed such a great positive male role model in his life. Chozen Martial Arts is by far the best Martial Arts School there is. Chozen is a family centered martial arts studio and treats everyone walking in the door as if they are apart of the Chozen Family. The facility is always clean and organized every time I come in. The owners are always happy and smiling and making sure everyone feels welcomed. The instructors are very patient & knowledgeable in what they do. The kids really look up to their instructors. They have a workout gym in the back corner of the facility as well as a snack bar up towards the front of the studio. They also have a room where kids work on their homework before going to karate class or waiting for their brother or sister to finish. I was on one of my night bike rides and as I pull into the parking lot of this place since the sidewalk turned into dirt, these two women were exiting this place. As I make it to the end of the parking lot, I hear one of the women say "that's what I thought bro", I think. That's when I realized I'm biking at 10 pm and they probably think I'm a transient. I do feel bad to label anyone as violent; especially those with such hard lives who the world has turned their backs on but we don't live in an ideal world. I am giving this place five stars because they were ready to square up with me and I think that's really awesome. Although my view on martial arts and self defense would revolve more on avoiding the threat and I was on the other side of the parking lot when I heard that comment, they were still ready to go....probably after an extremely intense workout too. I've been approached 9 miles into a run and I screamed I'm calling the police with my phone in my hand but I remember just thinking, fuck I have almost nothing left in my gas tank....please turn around. read more

Plus, it's hard to believe someone is a black belt in Krav Maga while dawning a massive beer belly and tight venom shirt, it's hard to promote dedication and self health with that kind of representation. He is amazing and was patient with my girls. great in the way he teaches and connects with each of the kids.
