A hot foam scrape behind the ears and neck is the standard ending of any Chicago barber cut. Dan ends his cuts in a similar fashion. What a treat! Using steamed towels would complete the effect. The digs are comfy, a bit ratty in a good way with favorite blankets tossed over overstuffed chairs. Look for the ever-present jigsaw puzzle and ask Dan to see his latest painting. He is quite accomplished. And his assorted house-brand pomades, beard oils and tonics are manly, smell like barbers, work exceedingly well and are surprisingly reasonable. Alex was really detailed and made sure to understand exactly how I hoped to have my hair cut. The shop has plenty of parking, with a free city lot next door. With the shop being in the bridal district, Alex shared that he hopes to use the shop for bridal parties and a space for grooms to host their groomsmen for haircuts, photos, etc.

It's good to make an appointment at least a week beforehand because they really do fill up. But they also have cancellations as well so feel free to use the wait list if you can only do it on a certain day. Go through the website to do this. The guys are very crass and friendly with each other so you can't be a prude here. Vibe is really chill and cool though. They will take care of you but good to be respectful to them. Parking is on the street and can be difficult at times but there is a garage really close by across the park median. Had to park here a few times usually on the weekends.

It's definitely not your typical salon - it's run out of the first floor of the house of one of the stylists. However, it has a great atmosphere. There is art all over, plants in the corners (including a giant cactus for you to examine while getting your hair washed), and music playing. All of the stylists are incredibly friendly and easy to talk to. The cuts from Chris are incredibly affordable as well. For customers under the age of 18, the price is your age + $2 (this may have changed in the last year, but that's how it was when I went there). Otherwise, cuts are somewhere around $20. Not sure if prices vary by stylist. I will forever recommend Alpine hair design to anyone living in Cincinnati!
