Parkhills is a great place to worship, hear the truth & come together as a family of believers…read more This is not where you go to hear sugar-coated sermons, pat yourself on the back & learn watered-down or "wishy-washy" messages. Pastor Welch & Caleb, both give Biblically sound sermons that cut to the heart of what's important & tell you what you need to know, not just what you want to hear. Sam leads the worship music that varies somewhat from week to week, but never ceases to lift you up and provide a meaningful message. You will hear songs old and new, and a wide array of musical instruments with a choir. Sunday mornings are organized in a mostly traditional Southern Baptist fashion with music, a welcome, announcements and prayer, usually followed by some special musical arrangement and then a sermon. They always have an invitation to come forward for prayer requests, concerns, or decisions of salvation, baptism, etc after the sermon. Then usually an optional open offering, a prayer, and then closing announcements & music. I have never felt any pressure or judgment about money, but I firmly believe in supporting your local church. They welcome newcomers, often with a hand shake and genuine gladness to see you (don't forget to grab a welcome bag before you leave, they are packed full of info & they offer delicious cookies!).
The church is in good condition and pretty large with some beautiful stained glass. They use projection screens for song lyrics and sermon outlines, so very easy to follow along. Their light & sound tech, who does the projections is great! I would imagine they average at least several hundred on any given Sunday, but its rarely at capacity, so the church is definitely larger. If you are new, or shy the balcony always has room, or you can usually squeeze in somewhere in the back if its more comfortable to you.
They offer numerous options for Sunday School ("Connection Groups") from married, singles, and various focuses, so you have options to find your fit. They do offer various activities and group gatherings throughout the week. It seems like they always have something for the kiddos, which is great for families with little ones. My husband and I just got married there & they made it so special and so beautiful... a great set up for weddings!! We are mid-late 20s, but I do wish there were more in our age group, however, every other age group younger and older seem to be very well represented. They have plenty of kiddos, youth, and then a few years older then us on up, but we are hoping to start seeing more our age. Give them a try, its a very genuine church & the sermons have helped us through some really difficult times :)
