Christian Community Action - Food Banks Near Me - Lewisville, Texas

I'm filing a complaint with this organization this evening, but also wanted to write a review. I would hope that anyone who donates to this organization goes elsewhere. I would suggest donating to Grace Grapevine, they are so kind and more Christ like than the people representing the financial assistance office at CCA. I seen a caseworker at the front desk at Grace Grapevine hugging someone who came in for assistance. They are so nice and patient. I love the positivity they give off. On Monday November 25, 2024 I arrive at CCA at 9am to fill out an application for rental assistance. When you walk in you're required to grab a number. I grabbed my number and I was #51. I didn't have all my documentation ready so I did have to use their printing room while I was waiting to be called. CCA takes walk ins from 9am to 11am (if your number isn't called by 11am then you have to come back at 1pm, as they close the office for lunch from 11am to 1pm.) Unfortunately my number.was not called by 11am so I had to come back. When you return to the office you're required to pull a new number (so you'll have a new place in line.) I got back in line at 11:50am at the front door (first in line.) The doors opened back at 1pm, grabbed my number. My number was called around 1:05pm. I went to the front desk, the rude woman checked to make sure I had all my documents. I was missing my ledger. I requested my landlord send it to me. He was able to send it about an hour later (maybe a little over.) In order to receive an appointment with the caseworker, you have to have all documentation ready. The rude lady looked over my ledger and added it to my documentation in which she kept and created me a file. Now that I had all my documentation, I was given an appointment for Monday December 2 at 9:45am. On Monday, December 2, which is today I arrived at 9:40 AM , spoke with the rude lady at the front to inform her I was there for my appointment. She said "okay you can have a seat." Right as I was about to walk to my seat she got my attention so I turned back around and she asked (while holding my ledger in her hand) "are you more than one month behind on rent, because we're only helping for December..?" I informed her that I was more than one month behind on rent, and that she should be aware of that because she has all my documentation and a form clearly stating that I am more than one month behind. She then says "Well, unfortunately I have to cancel your appointment and we cannot help you. Per our guidelines you can not be more than one month behind. Of course I was disappointed and I told her it was okay for me to only receive one month help, my landlord is doing his best to work with me. I also said to her "You knew I was more than one month behind a week ago. Why would you even waste my time coming up here?" Genuine question. People make mistakes and I would've accepted and appreciated if she told me that she overlooked it, but nope the rude lady got Loud (at a Christian organization..) I'm the only one that should be frustrated, I am behind on my bills and being told they can't help me after spending 8 hours of my life at CCA. I would've rather spent that 8 hours volunteering there because they clearly need more reps assisting the amount of people coming in requesting help. They need loving help. People who have a passion in helping and serving. Although I am sad and very disappointed that I won't be able to get the help that I need. I am more disappointed in the way that I was treated and talk to. Not once did I get loud (raise my tone.) The representative at the front desk needs to be talked to and reminded that that is a Christian organization and she should be a rep representing Jesus Christ. I am being very honest when I say that your donation should go elsewhere. I am a single mother and I am five months pregnant. I am very emotional right now and that lady, that rude lady needs to learn how to talk to people. read more

These people are very unprofessional the play too many games. They do not want to help people they only want donations if you never been there before they will harass you about documents, give you the runaround, '' like it is funny'', and keep asking for documents that have already been submitted to them. Then when they play with you for about three days they will denied any services requested you of all resources that are available they will tell you that there are no funds available. They will humiliate if you not of their cultural. Please be careful with these people. read more

Great Organization! They are well managed and provide life saving services to the under served of North Texas.

DO NOT I repeat DO NOT do an application with them or anything. I wish I could give them negative stars instead. One star seems like giving them high praise if you ask me. I did an application BEFORE October 1st so my rent wouldn't be so high for them. I brought in ALL the documents I needed to bring initially. When I finally got an interview (which took a week an a half to get) they asked me for more documents. I sent all my documents to Kat Negrete like she requested and asked her in the same email to let me know if there was anything else missing. All she kept asking for were updated ledgers and an update address for my boyfriend which I repeatedly sent to her. She told me a w9 was all that was left but not even 20 minutes later Lat responds saying it's been 3 days and can't do anything about it. Again I did everything in a timely manner only to be told oh well too bad so and because of a mistake Kat did. When I asked to speak to theirsupervisor, they continuallysay no that i have to fill a form out. I eventually left a vm to Brittany (one of the supervisors) and i am yet to hear from her. I have also been callinh for days now and no one ever answers. Finally after 100ds of calls. a Patsy answers and tell me to wait to transfer me to a supervisor but instead hangs up on me. I call right back and now it goes straight to their inbox everytime. Ive sent the CEO Gilbert Montez a message and EVEN HE doesnt respond. I have proof of rverything i am telling you guys. So i pray no one has to go through this again. Turns out other people have gone through similar go arounds by this organization. Move aside Goodwill! CCA is by far the Super Target of Thrift stores. They have a MASSIVE supply of thriftiness at your fingertips. I'm not exaggerating at all. It's off 35 and it looks like any thrift store. When you walk in though, they have such a huge cornucopia of clothes, furniture, etc. that are so ridiculously cheap - you won't know where to start to buy furniture. They even have discounts at the thrift store! That's how much closer to free this place gets. I recommend checking this place out if you're looking to renovate. They accept donations so don't hesitate to fuel their business. YAY for THRIFT CCA! read more

with the help of CCA my kids and I still have a place to call home.. The staff was very helpful understanding loving and caring with each individual who walked into their office.. CCA also helped me to shine the light on my kid's face for the upcoming holiday.. I have been donating my "no longer needed" but still usable stuff to CCA since 1982. When you find yourself out of work 8 months, with a $400 monthly income and $2000 in monthly bills, you look for resources to help you, so that you don't just get completely desperate and snuff it. After compiling all of the requested data and filling out an 11-page form, I was granted $30 per week access to the "food pantry" of generally expired goods for 7 weeks, essentially $200 at full value. I don't think this will go far in preventing me from moving on to the next world, in an untenable situation - too young to retire and too old to hire, apparently. All this, after working without a break for 35 years, then depleting my unemployment completely, while putting in 150-200 applications. Maybe it would be different if I was a single mom with 6 kids. read more

I love this little place. I do volunteer work for the organization, and I can tell you that the money truly goes to help people. They have remodeled the store at this location, and it is cute as it can be. I got probably 3 or 400 worth of costume jewelry, nice stuff, for under $40. brand new winter scarves, really nice ones, for $3! And a Bible CD set for $9. LOVING this place!!! read more
