Ok so I have contemplated for weeks, trying to decided if I should post a review or not... After carefulll consideration Something in my heart compelled me to write about my experience as it could possible help another young women and children. About 3 weeks ago me and my 2 YO son was exited from the program after a a month stay (which I was more than happy to do) Although the facility is nice it's definitely not for any domestic violence victims And I strongly urge you to stay far away. Not only is the staff aggressive and tempromental but extremely controlling. Controlling over your whereabouts every second of the day, Every dime you make, what you can spend (if they allow it) where you can go, where you can work, where your kids go to school ect. The manipulation and re victimizing is completely beyond me. I was mortified when I found out they kept tabs and cameras on when I was eating and if I "ate too late" or if I didn't do something according to detailed description. I honestly feel this place should be shut down because the way its being ran is ineffective. And in the beginning they give women a false sense of security to make things look good for the donors, it's completely sad... . My lawyer was completed to sue but due to clause in the agreement you have to sign, it would be difficult.... Just do yourself a favor stay on the street or stay away.I fell bad for anyone who comes in contact with the current staff and I feel horrible for the founder who I'm sure started this non profit in "good faith" read more

I didn't know where I was going to be and go and I hoped for everything to be okay while sharing Domestic violence with my Mom right beside me and my sisters as well. We were participating in it for a while and we needed huge help. Well, God had a huge plan when we prayed. All by his grace, he showed us to come across being in Emily's place. They were such a beautiful miracle for real. They provided living with them for 2 years with blessings with living with them, and even way more the next 2 years. Emily's Place helped me a whole lot. If it wasn't for this place, I don't know where me and my kids would have ended up. This is a safe place. They helped me with my finances. I was able to take financial classes and they helped me learn to save money. They provided supplies and all that I needed for my kids. I'm so proud to now to be working, my credit score is high, and I have money in my savings account. Emily's Place has gave me a lot of growth. Didn't like all the smoking on property or one staff member Shay who would call me after 10pm to ask me personal questions of my life irrelevant to anything, however, the issue was resolved. Other than that my faults caused me to leave on my own. The program is good don't let personal feelings shame this place. If denied or not accepted try again. I dislike we single women have it so hard. I mean I personally think we all could live for free as the sand in sea to make bricks are free and the rainforest trees are too that have been invaded. Maybe will get a president who'll have it right for us as we should be able to work and spend ot on giving back to friends and family not just bills read more

Emily's place  is by far the worst shelters I have ever been in. the case manager for housing is the most horrible person i have ever met and so is the head person she would  always lie and make things up they both have always spoke to me in an ill manner. they would always give me an attitude and treated me like a child and always spoke over me. the head person would hang up the phone when she didn't want to talk anymore and would also speak over me. one day on the very last day I was there I told the housing manager  and the head person   to stop yelling at me and  I told her that she needed to lower her voice and to talk to me respectfully and to not talk over me this all started because I didn't put in my schedule that I was doing therapy or going to get my transcript and doing a class I was trying to explain to her that I did put it in a long time ago and she told me that it didn't count and I tried to explain to her that me and my case manager already spoke about this because she said that she would take me. she said that it doesn't matter. volunteer work is more important and that I needed to get a job  and that I needed to fill out the job hunts I told her that I would get a part time job on campus and she told me that she didn't approve of anything  that I couldn't go to college, that I couldn't work on campus and that I couldn't go get my transcripts and that she only approved me of doing volunteer work  I told her that it was in writing that we all agreed on me going back to college and would only do volunteer work while I was waiting to go go to college  at first they just wanted me to go to college that's what they wanted me to do and told me to cancel all of my interviews she then told me that she never said any of that. That only me and my case manager only talked about that which she was lying because her signature was on that piece of paper she  then goes on to yelling at me that I haven't really even been doing volunteer work and that I'm falling behind and making up excuses  I told her the reason I haven't been working that much was because my son had an allergic reaction  which is very severe and I have a bad infection and I'm very sick she told me that it didn't matter and those are just excuses I tried to stay calm but when someone's yelling at me and trying to speak over me it triggers my PTSD at that point I didn't know what to do all I wanted was to go back to college get a job and get an apartment  but these people were purposely doing these things so i wouldn't be able to get what i wanted done all they want you for is volunteer work which they force you to do without getting paid for 8 hours there thing is is that you work for free in order to live there while they bark orders at you and expect you to obey and do what your told.  On my second day one of The older lady's  walked into my room in the middle of the night telling me that I needed to come down and do chores not one person told me what my assigned chores would be or or what day I would start but that's not even the problem I had no privacy at all i don't like it when someone walks into my room while I'm sleeping and touches me while I'm sleeping she literally shook me awake and after that stood by my door staring at me while I told her to leave so I can get dressed I then wraped the blanket around me and walked to close the door so I can put my clothes on and she told me not to close the door on her and proceeded to try and push the door open nothing made me more uncomfortable then that also while I was staying there. there were cameras all over the house even near the bathroom the camera also picked up on  our voices and the head person would listen to everything of what we were saying even our private conversations. There was another incident while I was there i was walking back from my "job" and on my way back to the shelter I was harassed by two men they asked me if i  wanted to go somewhere with them and they both were trying to corner me in the alleyway I pushed both of them away from me and one of them were trying to grab my arm luckily I ran away both of the guys laughed and I was in tears as I was running away I got back to the shelter and I was coming through the gate one of the lady's yelled at me to come in the main house and I did thanking God one of them were here after I got in I was trying to tell her what happened and she told me to stop talking and asked me why I was back so early and that I need to go back because I haven't finished volunteer work I didnt want to go back not at all I told her what had happened and she said that it wasn't that big of a deal, and I asked if someone would be able to take me there so I wouldn't run into those guys again and she said that it wasnt that bad. I could go on and on about Emily's and the horrors of this place but I can't fit all the words that I want to say into this review but what I will say is that no mother with kids should ever stay at Emily's place. read more

Emily's place is a faith based long term transitional housing for women and children survivors of domestic violence. My 3 daughters and I were residents of Emily's place for 3 years. I had the most transformational experience of my life. Emily's place gave us love, hope, a place to heal and grow, spiritual nourishment, a second chance in life and a forever family. I was in a dark hopeless mental place. The domestic abuse in my marriage had taken a huge toll on my daughters and I. I had reached a point of no return, it was a matter of life or death situation. I had made up my mind to get out of the marriage. I started by obtaining a protective order against my ex and actively looking for emergency shelters online. I couldn't help but constantly look over my shoulder, through the apartment windows, the door peep hole to see if he was stalking us. Our everyday routine to school and work consisted of a prayer for protection, carefully scanning the area for suspicious activity, and if clear then run full speed down the stairs to the to the car and lock immediately. The same happened in the evening when we returned. This was mentally exhausting, I could hardly sleep at night, I was always fearing for our dear lives. I had made many phone calls and left voicemails in several shelters. God answered our prayers when I finally received a phone call back from Emily's place. After the interview with the house directors my daughters and I were accepted into the program. The news was beyond what any word could express, over-excitement, over-joyed, relieved, we were jumping up and down with uncontrolled tears of joy. We were finally safe, free from fear and I slept that night for the first time in a long while. I had a loving support group starting from the Founder Mark Hagan, CEO Lori Conley, Board of Directors, house managers, counselors, program managers, the volunteers and fellow sister residents. They held our hands, showed us love and we begun our healing journey of hopeless to hopeful, it took work, commitment, sacrifice, perserverance, resilience and extra grace from God. Emily's place provided a new slate and tools to start over, to dream again, to be who I needed to be for my daughters, a healthy emotionally stable mother. What a great blessing. The cycle of domestic abuse was broken forever. I filed for divorce against my ex and 6 months later, it was granted and the rest was history. It's liberating to be free again! We are now thriving and living the best life we could only dream of. My utmost gratitude to Emily's place for providing a safe haven for women and children afflicted and traumatised by domestic abuse. When I was wondering the streets & scattered in thought, feeling broken inside my heart with every single resource exhausted - it was FINALLY time to give in..... I luckily found myself within a temporary woman's shelter with a quick 45 days to figure out a plan for the future of my 4 year old son & myself..... By the pure grace of the sweet Lord above, I was introduced to Emily's Place - at which my son and I are blessed beyond measure's to now be current residents of this AMAZING PROGRAM - I'm not going to lie, I was aprehencable because of the long-term commitment & because of past reviews I had read online, but realistically - I was broken hearted and afraid, and my options were NO BETTER than my fear itself.... We are now safe, treated with Love & Kindness & are Absolutely BLESSED with EVERYTHING WE COULD POSSIBLY NEED & WANT TOO!! Our future looks bright & hopeful & I know yours will too..... It was not by chance we are being given this extraordinary opportunity & I could really NOT imagine where we'd be without this program! As a former resident, I can attest to just how transformational this program can be when you use it in the right way. It's not easy work to rebuild yourself and rebuild your entire life. It's difficult and although it's much easier to give up, the hard work pays off in the end. There will be days when you just want to give up, but you have to push yourself because it's all a part of healing and growing. The staff is not going to let you fail or quit on yourself because they see the potential you've yet to realize. You have to walk into the program wanting a life renovation with a positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow. The tools are handed to you and the guidance is there whenever you need it. I walked into the doors broken and unsure of how I would be able to survive the emotional toll and the financial toll that leaving my abuser took on me. The very first week we were attending classes based on building your self-worth and realizing how powerful you are as a woman. I can go on and on about things they did for my baby and I. I could share beautiful moments full of happy tears. I could express to you how they were the family I desperately needed when I had no one. The person I was when I arrived there is not the person I left as. I'm so proud of the woman I've become, and I honestly have no clue where I would be today if it weren't for this program opening its doors to me. To look back and see how far I've come and how much I've grown, I amaze myself. The family-oriented staff, the INCREDIBLE volunteers, and the other survivors got me through so much. Even after completing my time there, I still have close friendships with the ladies I met, and I still have the program as a lifeline may I ever need it. These people do their job, and take their job of protecting the ladies here serious. I came here with nothing but the clothes on my back, my children were in CPS custody I was a lost soul. Don't let the negative reviews deter you from here because one thing about Emily's Place is that they will help you in any way that they can. I hated that I couldn't graduate from here, but the progress I made here from getting a job that I just made 1 year at, enrolling in school to pursue my bachelors degree, and saving up a significant amount of money made it possible for me to get a place of my own and shortly after my kids were returned back to me. I don't know that I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for the solid foundation that Emily's Place had a hand in building. I will say, if you are fortunate enough to get accepted into Emily's Place. Follow your case management action items, take advantage of ALL the help available here, from the counseling to the parenting classes and COMMUNICATE! I graduated from Emily's Place, me and my 4 children were accepted into Emily's Place after having to leave our home for Domestic violence reasons. I really didn't know what we were going to do since I left home with nothing but 2 suitcases and my children. Emily's place prepares you for life outside in the real world, it will take work, and you will be juggling a lot of things in an effort to stand on your own two feet again. But just push thru and use the tools they provide, remember no program is perfect, but there are very good people working there, who ultimately want the best for you and your children. I am so so thankful Emily's place was there to catch us when we were falling, they do so much and give so much. I have so many amazing memories of my time there, great moments with the Woman I met there, and ill never forget it. When you hear Shelter you picture a depressing, dark place, but at Emily's Place you feel very special and taken care of, like you matter. The process of getting out of a dangerous domestic situation isn't easy, but it is worth it in the end. Today I have full custody of my children, in the process of buying a home, own my own cars, and have a great job i've been at for over 2 years now. They took down the yelp. But there was a report of calling cps on clients. This is true, LJ has developed a personal relationship with clients and she asked me to say that I am suicidal and go check in at a hospital. The rules are inconsistent and when I complained about women smoking too close to property she came in my room and asked for a drug test. Not only did I pass but I got two more test to confirm the accusation. The cattyness of calling cps almost landed my child into an ex abusers hands. By the grace of God and a great lawyer things was fixed within a few days. My kids have not left my side since recovering from being shot and healed. This place denied our stay in 2017 but explained there was room now. Well we came and it seemed like everyday was a battle with NON abused women. Then to top it off dealing with upset employees mad about our situation. There is no help here, it's too angry within the homes, and sometimes it's polite angryness so please take my advise and look at other resources. My kids didn't get any of their Christmas presents except maybe two gifts early as they forced us out one week before Christmas. Thank God Cps saw the complaints on Emily's place with employees calling cps because of cattyness. Please look into other sources and don't give these ppl any of your information. I had two alerts on my life lock since leaving Emily's place. They refuse to respond to emails when requesting your children's personal information back. read more
