Let me tell you my own story. At first, I had selected a DIFFERENT daycare in Chelmsford, closer to my work. It soon became a horrifying experience. The teachers were uncaring and grizzled. The facility was dirty. I observed so many bad things: for example, my infant crying and neglected under an activity gym as the older babies in the same room received more attention. I was traumatized. I sobbed every day in the parking lot of my workplace because of the things I was seeing and hearing. I was even thinking of quitting my (amazing) job -- because I had nowhere else to put my daughter. No family support. What was I going to do? I desperately reached out to the mama social networks and (an angel) mama recommended the TLE Billerica. She had loved it; and only left because she moved closer to the city. I am still so thankful for that recommendation. My daughter was only at the other nasty place for four days. On July 3, 2014, after an early release for the holiday, I toured the TLE Billerica, met the director Melody, and the staff -- and the rest is history. A beautiful, happy history. My daughter is almost two now. She's been at TLE full-time since she was 11 weeks. No place is perfect -- but TLE Billerica is very close to it. The facility is so secure. So clean. Most of the teachers I met two years ago are still there. But the real treasure has been how warm and caring the teachers and staff have been to my daughter. Our highest priority criterion isn't price, but frankly, the TLE is also half the price of daycares near Boston where we originally looked. It was several hundred dollars less expensive per month than the first daycare we used. I should also mention the convenient location and hours. My daughter has severe eczema but her skin is so well moisturized during the day by her teachers, she doesn't even scratch. She's never had a diaper rash. Rarely gets sick. She's happy -- and when I pick her up, I can tell she's had a good day. The last daycare? Every day, I could tell she was having a bad day. As a baby, she struggled with naps. TLE helped us build a sleep routine. As a toddler, she struggled with solid food. TLE helped build her appetite! She's a big girl now. At 21 months, she has ABC's, 123's and full songs figured out. Every time I've had a need or concern, the response has been tremendous. I couldn't ask for more from a center. The teachers and staff at TLE have become our family. I have a good relationship with so many of the other parents who also sing this center's praises. When my husband and I count our blessings, TLE is at the top of the list every year. They gave this scared, first time (working) mama reassurance, support and love. I'll always be grateful.

The parties run back to back so there is no buffer between the party before you to get their stuff cleaned up so you can get your stuff set up. APTG has amazingly low turnover - the teachers there aren't a revolving door, and instead are there for years and years. Every day we get a customized email all about our son's day, and they do a terrific job on mixing education and fun. Its also good in some ways for the older kids, as they can mentor the younger ones. Where it falls short is that it doesn't allow as much flexibility for more of an academic curriculum. I consider this to be a relatively minor item because frankly, once they enter Kindergarten it all seems to even out anyway. APTG is a great group of people who have created a warm, loving, safe and caring environment for the kids in their care. Its hard to ask for more.

I don't doubt that some parents experience good things from Artisan. From what I hear their infant…read morecare is excellent and we loved the addition of music in the curriculum. But in speaking to other parents of kids my daughter's age, they were/are having similar issues with staff and management that we had before we left. I would recommend against transferring into Artisan at least after toddler stages. We immediately looked to Artisan for a preschool program because we had toured there when she was an infant and loved the presentation from that time. My daughter began her experience with daycare at a small in-home facility in Burlington and did very well there, but eventually grew out of that format and needed more structure with children her age. We didn't look anywhere else, and were excited to move her into a preschool classroom shortly after turning three last year (May 2018). Over the summer, we were presented with mixed reports of behavior issues (completely uncharacteristic of what we had seen to that point) and other reports of her doing well. We were not sure what the problem would be other than maybe a transitional issue. After a teacher change in the fall, we discussed the plan created with the previous teachers over the summer at the outset with the new staff. We began to notice however that they didn't seem to be following it. We again kept getting mixed reports from different teachers as to her progress. To be honest, her teachers' quality seemed to go down with the new staff. Also new was Director Julie, who eventually presented us with an ultimatum in November 2018 that we enroll her in public funded special needs evaluations or be removed from Artisan because they had no answers. This pressure was confusing and didn't sit well with us and we found their expertise to be lacking, so we didn't trust their insistence on there being a special need issue. I come from a family full of educators at all levels and their inability to creatively find and enact a plan didn't seem right with anyone. We pulled her from Artisan before Christmas 2018 and found a spot for her at Primrose in Burlington for even more money that Artisan was charging, but the cost difference was well worth it. Any behavioral issues were quickly dealt with and now, at 4.5 years old in a pre-k program she is excelling in all areas and working on first grade material. We're given glowing praise from her new teacher frequently. We purposely waited to see how she fared at her new school before posting any reviews, but her success only further shows me Artisan staff did not have the training or creative capacity to solve what amounted to be a simple problem. My wife and I experienced a lot of stress over her inconsistent care and Julie's ultimatum. Now we sleep very well knowing our daughter is in good hands at Primrose.

The teachers are kind, thoughtful, and incredibly attentive, and they do a wonderful job nurturing each child's individual personality and interests, something that means everything when you have multiples. Communication is excellent, and we're always grateful for the small, meaningful observations they share about our children's growth. Our kids attend both the morning program and after-school enrichment and are thriving. We wouldn't consider sending them anywhere else and plan to stay all three years.

The creativity, appropriate (and fun!) activities, outdoor play, focus on kindness- with the approach this Montessori takes, my son has grown leaps and bounds. He is learning about his emotions, how to express them appropriately, how to handle conflict, and we are all so proud of his emotional development. He's writing, reading books well above his grade level, and I've come home to him explaining some math trick I've totally forgotten! They are also learning so much art and music. The kid isn't even 6 yet. Sounds like a brag, but EVERYONE in his class is doing awesome at those things too. The kids are loved by the teachers and I've never, ever witnessed such a good environment for pre-K in all my years of my kids being in any various daycares/Pre-K (4 others). Ask any Marblehead Mom or Dad (or Grammy!) who has a child at Children's Workshop and she/he will likely tell you the same. Kate Birtwell has been running the center for many years.
