Our daughter attended Artisan for 2 years and we couldn't be more pleased. It can be really anxiety provoking when you start thinking about enrolling your child in daycare or preschool and knowing how to trust that your child is going to be in good hands. We had looked at a few other childcare centers and we just didn't feel like they were the best fit, but i couldn't pinpoint why. What I do know is that we didn't get those feelings at all when we chose to enroll our child with Artisan. Our daughter learned so much being in their care for 2 years, and it was an added plus that Artisan really adds that extra focus in Art and Music. Aside from that the staff is wonderful, it felt like we were sending her to be with family and I never had to doubt my sense of trust in them. Now that my daughter is in kindergarten, it is bittersweet. She was fully prepared to take that step thanks to Artisan, I actually miss my early morning chats with Julie and some of the other teachers. I don't doubt that some parents experience good things from Artisan. From what I hear their infant care is excellent and we loved the addition of music in the curriculum. But in speaking to other parents of kids my daughter's age, they were/are having similar issues with staff and management that we had before we left. I would recommend against transferring into Artisan at least after toddler stages. We immediately looked to Artisan for a preschool program because we had toured there when she was an infant and loved the presentation from that time. My daughter began her experience with daycare at a small in-home facility in Burlington and did very well there, but eventually grew out of that format and needed more structure with children her age. We didn't look anywhere else, and were excited to move her into a preschool classroom shortly after turning three last year (May 2018). Over the summer, we were presented with mixed reports of behavior issues (completely uncharacteristic of what we had seen to that point) and other reports of her doing well. We were not sure what the problem would be other than maybe a transitional issue. After a teacher change in the fall, we discussed the plan created with the previous teachers over the summer at the outset with the new staff. We began to notice however that they didn't seem to be following it. We again kept getting mixed reports from different teachers as to her progress. To be honest, her teachers' quality seemed to go down with the new staff. Also new was Director Julie, who eventually presented us with an ultimatum in November 2018 that we enroll her in public funded special needs evaluations or be removed from Artisan because they had no answers. This pressure was confusing and didn't sit well with us and we found their expertise to be lacking, so we didn't trust their insistence on there being a special need issue. I come from a family full of educators at all levels and their inability to creatively find and enact a plan didn't seem right with anyone. We pulled her from Artisan before Christmas 2018 and found a spot for her at Primrose in Burlington for even more money that Artisan was charging, but the cost difference was well worth it. Any behavioral issues were quickly dealt with and now, at 4.5 years old in a pre-k program she is excelling in all areas and working on first grade material. We're given glowing praise from her new teacher frequently. We purposely waited to see how she fared at her new school before posting any reviews, but her success only further shows me Artisan staff did not have the training or creative capacity to solve what amounted to be a simple problem. My wife and I experienced a lot of stress over her inconsistent care and Julie's ultimatum. Now we sleep very well knowing our daughter is in good hands at Primrose. read more

We have had a great experience at Artisan Childcare Center. My son has been there nearly a year and is getting ready for his second school year there. When deciding on a center, we visited a few and felt that this was the best fit. It felt homey and not like a factory of kids. The teachers are very caring and they are accommodating to any special needs you may have. We love the focus on the arts and feel that is so important for young children. There is a large playground outside for outdoor play as well. Artisan also does a great job at communication regarding our child's day. read more

My husband and I are very pleased with the care our son receives at the Artisan. Most of all, he goes there happily in the morning and is somewhat sad to leave in the afternoon, which only shows how much he truly enjoys his time there. The teachers are warm and well prepared. They give us a full and HONEST report of how his day was and are genuinely interested in his physical and emotional development. Ms Myra, the Director, is very understanding and easy to talk to. Our son is particularly fond of Ms Nona, the music teacher, as he loves to play with the musical instruments she brings to the center and to perform the songs she teaches. Artisan has been a part of our family for nearly 4 years. We have our two children here in the preschool and infant rooms and have been in nearly every room in this center. There is simply no other school in the greater boston area that gives you everything you receive at Artisan. This all happened one day at preschool: - played the piano (daily piano classes are standard in the curriculum) -planted in the Artisan garden -ran outside in the sprinkers during water play The director loves each child as if they were her own, as do most of the teachers. The teachers have wonderful experience and credentials and our children love them. Miss Nona, the music teacher is a gem. The owner of the school is a musician who believes in the value of music in early childcare education. He has invested in the school over the years, and hosts events such as family BBQs, date nights (no extra charge) and two music recitals a year. We truly view Mabel and the teachers as partners helping us raise happy, healthy children. I'm sometimes sad to leave my kids in daycare but I'm happy they get to be a part of the Artisan experience. read more

My wife and I did a ton of research and site visits before deciding on Artisan Childcare Center and I'm glad we found this place! I can't say enough great things about this place. The teachers are all very friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive! My daughter is almost a year and a half old and LOVES going to school every day. The teachers document every detail of her day so we know exactly what she did, what she ate, when she napped, etc. The teachers lover her and it shows because she LOVES her teachers. The perks we fell in love with were the daily music class, the baby sign language lessons (yes, our daughter used sign language to communicate with us at a year old and still signs when she says "please" in an over-exaggerated manner, haha), the outdoor play, the gardening program, the teacher-to-student ratios, the staff, and overall cleanliness of the facililty. It's a little more expensive than a couple of the other places we visited, but for a couple extra hundred dollars per month, WELL WORTH IT in comparison. You can't even compare a standard daycare facility to this place; Artisan blew them all away. We know our daughter is in good hands and getting top-notch care. It really is more like school than daycare, which keeps our daughter stimulated and happy! As far as the review submitted by "Life B", kids get sick, it's a fact of life wherever you bring them. In my experience, the staff has been on top of everything they possibly can be on top of when illnesses are going around, so the review by "Life B" is very misleading and based on one kid getting sick, one time. The review should be deleted in my opinion as it contains no helpful information at all. Regardless of the childcare facility you choose, your kid will get sick during it's lifetime, haha, accept that. Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend this place, there is a reason they fill up and availability can be difficult to come by at times. My wife and I lucked out. A full-time slot opened up a few days before we went in for a tour and we jumped on it. My suggestion to you is, if you are considering daycare and Artisan has an available slot, take it. You won't be disappointed, but you will miss out if someone else grabs it before you. -Ron B. read more

My husband and I have had our children in many types of daycares (home, center, etc.) and now that our child is preschool age, we wanted him to be exposed to a diverse atmosphere. Artisan is highly rated and their programs (piano/violin lessons, big yard, garden, etc) are something we were very attracted to. However, we were very disappointed how they implemented their program. Their staff continuously changed throughout the day (too many shifts), and some of them left in the middle of the year. Our child did not bond with anyone and when we pickup, no one could provide any update for our child except "Had a great day!" Our child was very interested in piano before attending Artisan, but he dislikes the teacher and no longer wanted to attend this school. The staff are very disorganized and cannot keep anything straight. Our very first day there was a pure chaos and it never improved! Feeling like we are only a number is not a great feeling. They also forget to provide medical treatments for kids even after warning several staff verbally. After a few months of hoping it will get better, it was time we call it quits. It was really ashame but us as parents and even our child were so relieved we are out of there. read more

My children have been attending Artisan for almost a full year now. I'm thrilled with how both boys love going there in the morning. The instruction, care, and nurturing seem top notch. They clearly take great care and pride in the teachers they employ. The initial 'feel' of Artisan plus the amazing outdoor space is why I decided on this school. The daily music lessons is an added bonus. I would recommend this school to anyone with young children in need of full day care. read more

A couple weeks back they had an outbreak of conjunctivities - you'd think all sick kids stay home. Nope - a pre-school girl several days back was leaving home with pus drooling from her eyes. She spent the whole day in school. Teacher was telling parents how she's been wiping it off all day. I wonder how many kids will be sick again. read more

My 20 month old son attends Artisan a few days per week. We can not be more pleased with this school. All of the staff are well educated and really seem to take a genuine interest in the development of our son. The facilities are always clean, with tons of natural light. The focus on music, art, and the environment is why we chose this school. The curriculum can't be beat and neither can the staff. We just love this school! read more

My infant attends Artisan several days a week and we are really happy with the school. The facilities are great. Green materials, tons of day light and a great outdoor space with an organic garden. This was a major factor in choosing artisan. So many of the facilities I saw in my search were in lower levels/ basements- not for my baby. The music and movement classes are great and every time she hears a song at home she immediately starts bopping and singing. They have a caring and well educated staff that give my baby plenty of personal attention and give me plenty of updates on her daily activities. The environment is friendly and stimulating. We drive a few extra miles to go to Artisan and it is worth is for the care. read more

My 3 year-old daugther goes to this preschool and I am so happy the way they take care of her. She is a very sensitive child and very attached to us but she still feels safe and happy there thanks to the staff. I love the activities they do. Gardening, teaching music to the kids with a proffesional music teacher, art etc. Now I wish they will have a kindergarden class too so that we do not have to find another school in the fututre. read more

My daughter attended Artisan as an infant. The space was gorgeous, - clean, bright, cheerful. A major issue was the parking. There was very little space and the pick up/drop off was hectic. To make matters worse, the owners reserved two parking spots in front of the daycare for them leaving parents with infants to struggle to find a spot - not easy during the winter. read more

My two sons have been going to the newly opened Newton location for the past month and just love it. It is such an amazing place and I couldn't be happier with it. I love seeing my boys so happy! As a working mom (I'm a teacher) it's so hard leaving them every morning, but when I see the smiles on their faces when they see the exciting new activities laid out each morning for them to dive into, I know how happy they are. We found Artisan online when we moved to Boston from Maryland. We have been so happy with the center and the quality of care our son has received. He has grown so much, in so many wonderful ways, since joining ACC and we think a lot of credit goes to the awesome teachers he has had at the center. The center also emphasizes music and our 3 year old will be starting an instrument this summer that we are very excited about. Overall, we made a great choice and would recommend it to all parents. read more
