I absolutely love the staff everyone is so nice and it was really easy to get in soon. They fixed my problem, answered all my questions thoroughly and I really love that I could just pick up the phone and someone answered when I needed it. That was a huge gold star for me because there's not a lot of places where you can call and actually get a person on the phone these days. Overall I had a great experience and would definitely be back if ever need be in the future. Thanks again!

I will go to UVA in November to have my scalp removed from my forehead back to the crown. I don't know how extensively it has grown on the sides. But I do know it took years to grow to the extent it has. It is a horror to comtemplate and I would never want anyone to go what I am going through. It won't kill me, but it is going to change my life substantially. Think about this if you still want to make an appointment with Avenues Dermatology for anything other than Botox. Someone should have done a biopsy years ago. So take care and ask for a biopsy if you have a scaly spot that doesn't go away.

While she wasn't taking any new patients, they were able to fit me in with Dr. Melson. I was nervous because I was already coming from a not great dermatology situation and couldn't find any information about her. I'm here to tell you Dr. Melson is amazing. This dermatology office is located on the second floor of a building that houses other doctor offices. There was a lot of easy free parking out front. The wait time wasn't insane, but I felt like I waited a bit longer than expected. There were also a lot of patients in the waiting room. I came to this office for a very inflamed cyst. The nurse who took my information was beyond sweet. When Dr. Melson came in, she was straight to the point, but she felt like she had the time of day for me. She was super kind and patient explaining the incision and drainage process to me. I also loved that I didn't feel judged when I needed to call my mom in the middle of the appointment to ask her about a medical history question. When I told her my antibiotic concerns, she worked with me to find the best medication. During the procedure when I asked to pause she was very receptive to this. I am so grateful that she helped.

My issue is with their front of office/ office management. I had to cancel an appointment I'd been waiting weeks for last November, due to a snowstorm. It was for a pretty urgent and critical issue. When I tried to reschedule it, I was shocked that the soonest I could be seen was in March! I asked if they could call if they had a cancellation and was told "no" but I could call them every week and ask. It's finally March, and I've endured intense suffering for months now. I've been to urgent cares and my regular doctor, trying to manage what's going on, but it's really a specialist issue. It's less than a week before my appointment and still no confirmation from them so I had to call myself. Add the horrible phone maze to this, and I really wish I could find a dermatologist practice that isn't overbooked like this, and treats people a little more kindly.

Upon making my appointment, I told the scheduler I had some skincare concerns I needed addressed during my appointment. I was looking forward to having a solution or at least some answers after my appointment, instead, I was told I would need to make an additional appointment in a few months to address the concerns of my facial redness....and that I was only scheduled for a cancer screen. My "cancer screen" lasted a total of maybe two minutes, and I was told to try sunscreen. In the past, I've been able to address concerns during my annual check up with another provider FROM THIS GROUP. This wasn't clearly communicated upon scheduling, I'm extremely disappointed with my experience here, and now I need to wait another month to get in to address something I was able to properly explain while the doctor was doing the body scan...you're telling me they can't take an additional couple of minutes to provide me a solution? No, they'd rather hit my insurance TWICE. Also, there was no "you're good", "your skin looks fine", etc. in regard to the cancer screen. I will not be using this doctor group again.

Fast-forward to January 2026 and I am once again back with a suspicious mole. When I called in somewhat of a panic, I was able to be seen within a week. Richmond Dermatology HEARD me and my concern and thankfully did not have me waiting for months, wondering what was going on. After a shave biopsy and a call from the doctor a few days later with the results and a thoroughexplanation of, I am in need of further intervention. Gratefully, no time was wasted, I have another appointment next week and I feel like I am in good hands. Being that we look at our skin every day and barely think twice about it, its best to stay on top of yearly skin exams, just as you would afford yourself other care. We worry more about what's going on inside of us than we do about our skin, which is the body's largest organ. Not that those other things aren't important, we just forget that our skin is very important, too. I definitely recommend Richmond Dermatology, and I recommend advocating for yourself if you are experiencing something that is or could be scary, like a potential skin cancer diagnosis.

However there was one particular employee who did not treat me as respectfully as I felt I should have been treated. I arrived fifteen minutes prior to my appointment time, the receptionist was helpful, and performed her job well. I filled out and completed the electronic signature agreement. I am a previous patient with the Hanover location but had to relocate, and I must say I miss the fact that I was always greeted and treated with utmost respect at the Hanover location. I still had 5 minutes I beleive before my appointment time. Like clock-work I always go to restroom pior to examination because I am older and my bladder does not behave properly the way it use to when I was younger. I was also very nervous about my skin cancer screening. I have had cancer removals in the past years, I am always nervous about new cancers, and removals.I needed to go to the restroom but a person was occupying when one of the expressionlist nurse assistants (not sure of her proper title), opened the main doorway and called for my name. I was very polite, still waiting patiently for the restroom to become available, and I was not late, I probably had five minutes left before my appointment and the office was nearly empty, with barely any other patience. I told her I needed to use the restroom before I was seen by my Dermatologist and that it was currently occupied. The young lady continued to stare at me blankly, she appeared to lack any form of people skills. Where was the proper greeting that I never received all while she just stood there as if I had become a burden. I asked if there was another restroom in the building but she just replied with a "no. " She didn't think for one moment to say something logical like, "it's okay, take your time, I'll let the Dermatologist know, just come to the door and call for me after you've had a chance to go to the restroom. But NO, she had to be a nothing burger standing there looking stoned faced. I don't remember the exact exchange with the young women bur my husband was with me, (thank-God), but soon afterwards the bathroom became available and then we called for her afterwards to take us to my room. She did her job while in the room to ask a few brief questions before giving me instructions on how to wear the gown. No expression, or patient care whatsoever, a robot would have served me better! I think James River needs to know that first impressions of a company is usually judged by how humanly friendly your workers are, how well they are greeted properly. Your company is a business and should conduct themselves according, especially how costly medical is these days or how difficult it is to find common courtesy in the mist of the cost that we pay as patience for our care. I understand if this lady was having a bad day but as the saying goes a good employee should be able to leave their bad day at home while and not bring it to work. I don't know maybe this lady is friendly to other people, maybe it was just me she didn't like. Who knows, but Just standing there in the doorway with a gapping expressionlist look on her face, in silence was just outright disrespectful to an older women like myself twice her age and senior! Please train your staff to greet your patience properly, especially people my age who should not feel guilty for needing to releive themselves when there's only one public single restroom available at the front waiting room area. Thank you kindly, Cindy
