I wasn't sure what to expect since I didn't look at the website before coming but it was very cute. It is a market full of Christmas vendors and food trucks. If you love local vendors, handmade crafts this is a place for you! There is a Santa and so much more!

Friday nights from 5-8 pm are free; thank goodness. If I had paid the $11-13 admission price, I'd be pretty upset. I've never understood why consumers should have to pay for the privilege to shop. Seems that vendors are losing out the most because after paying admission, we're less inclined to buy. Speaking of vendors... you enter the market via the Retail tent. That is, a lot of crappy commercial goods that you can get just about anywhere. Though a few local stores were represented. The Artisan tent was a bit more interesting, with local artists selling everything from woodwork, jewelry and photos to handmade ornaments. Especially fun was watching artists at work, like glassblowers and metal artists. The food section was pretty disappointing. Two vendors sold authentic German food, but the one I tried was not very good. Other vendors tried to German-ize their food by adding sauerkraut to everything. The one stand out was the Pumpkin Rice Pudding, a nice twist on an old favorite. Something to do during the holiday season, for sure, but nothing like the European Christmas markets (which are free, incidentally) that Christkindlmarkt models itself after. Parking is a nightmare. The tents take over most of the parking lot and the remainder is supposed to be for the skating rink next door. Paid street parking is available, but not super close. Wear comfy shoes.

This is such a good spot. If someone said "when in Allentown," where to go this would be it…read more Admittedly there isn't a lot to choose from, but this is a wonderful family friendly place. Here is a joint private/government effort that works. It is a fish hatchery, and you can spend a couple bucks for food. Throw this in the tanks, and watch the mostly rainbow trout go crazy for it. The freshwater version of Jaws. All joking aside spent a couple hours here. I found seeing the grounds neat too. The volunteers here are wonderful. Hoping young folks will step up. You can go inside the store and see animals preserved in formaldehyde. This is educational. What a great spot for families, and people of all ages.

We had a fantastic time looking at all the different sized fish A big bag of fish food is only $1, extremely reasonable, and the entire family made a few bags last 20-30 minutes and we fed most of the tanks! We especially liked the "prized fish" tank, which has the biggest fish in the hatchery, and we had a great time gawking at the huge fish. The kids we saw around also all seemed to be having a great time. My only critique is that I feel there should be at least a couple obvious staff present. While we were there, one of the nets on the medium size tank fell in, and fish were getting stuck in the net. One fish was visibly thrashing, while a couple others were trapped with their heads out of the water, dying for all to see. This was clearly not how it was meant to be. There was no place for us to report this clear problem. There was also a dead fish just sitting in the walkway of one area. Now I understand that this is a hatchery, and with large scale production, fish are going to die. I don't mind seeing some dead fish in the water. But one just rotting on the ground or dying in a net (both of which area easily fixable) does rub me the wrong way. I wish I could give this place more like a 4 1/2, because some staff did come and fix the net problem, and the dead fish were not a huge detriment to my experience, but I don't want to rate 5 because it was something I feel could be easily fixed. The pictures don't do this place justice, I highly suggest going and feeding the fish yourself! You can also look at all the fish for free.

We opted indoor by the window and they had the door open so you could still get the weather without being outside. I dreamed of the garlic rolls for years. They are baked fresh throughout the day and evening. Freshly made rolls, drowned in olive oil, and then covered in basically an entire head of garlic. So many dates and girls nights we would have to stash supplies in our bags to cover the smell. It is always beyond worth it, so simple and so perfect. I could write a love letter to these garlic rolls and how I could and possibly have eaten an entire basket by myself. They even reheat well the next day. Got a side of their freshly made sauce and you could see the whole chunks of tomato. Our server was so kind and didn't judge us at all for only wanting the rolls and the sauce. She even described the two options and offered us more if we wanted. The perfect ending to dinner when you want a little more, but cannot handle an entire plate of pasta. Come here for the bread rolls and you will not be disappointed.
