This experience checked off one of those long-standing "I did this thing!" moments for 2025--and I'm really glad I finally made it happen. I attended PEEPSFEST, held December 30-31 from 3-6 p.m. at the SteelStacks campus in Bethlehem. Tickets are required, with general admission priced at $5, making this a very affordable, family-friendly outing. According to the website, the event features indoor and outdoor fun, live music, PEEPS-themed games and crafts hosted by local nonprofits, interactive shows by the Wildlands Conservancy and the Da Vinci Science Center, and character meet-and-greets. The highlight comes at 5:35 p.m. with the iconic drop of a 400-pound, 4'9" PEEPS Chick, followed by a fireworks display. There were also several thoughtful additions that really stood out. I especially appreciated the PBS39 x PEEPSFEST Friendship Bracelet Creation Station, PEEPS IN THE KITCHEN with Chef Julie of Levy Restaurants, and the sensory-friendly space presented by Good Shepherd Rehabilitation--a wonderful option for guests with sensory sensitivities. Kids 12 and under received a special PEEPS tote bag to collect goodies throughout the event, which was clearly a big hit with families. The event takes place on the SteelStacks campus, and honestly, the setting alone is worth the visit. SteelStacks is the largest revitalized brownfield in the country, spanning 10 acres on the former Bethlehem Steel site. Some quick pre-trip research taught me that for nearly a century, Bethlehem Steel was the economic backbone of the Lehigh Valley and helped build some of the most iconic structures in the U.S., including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Chrysler Building, and parts of the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, Alcatraz, and the Hoover Dam. When the plant closed in 1995, it left behind both a massive industrial footprint and a void in the local economy. Rather than demolishing the site, the community chose preservation and reinvention. Through a Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district established in 1999, the area was transformed into what is now a thriving hub for arts, culture, education, and community events. Today, the towering blast furnaces--some over 230 feet tall--stand as a powerful reminder of the city's industrial past. From Furnace "A" (dating back to 1915) to Furnace "E," the site stretches nearly a quarter of a mile and once produced thousands of tons of iron daily. The furnaces were last operational on November 18, 1995, but their presence is anything but forgotten. Visually, the SteelStacks campus is absolutely stunning in a raw, industrial way. Standing in the outdoor space beneath the blast furnaces--especially at night--was nearly overwhelming in the best possible sense. The festive, multicolored uplighting against the massive steel structures added a sense of magic and mysticism that photos don't fully capture. Parking is another bonus: free on-site parking is available in multiple lots along First Street year-round (except during Musikfest). Speaking of which, SteelStacks is also home to Musikfest, the nation's largest free music festival--and I'm already scheming a return visit. While PEEPSFEST itself is definitely geared more toward children, it was still a fun and unique way to mark the transition into a new year. It's not something I need to do every year, but I'm genuinely happy to have experienced it. I'd highly recommend it for families with young children, as there's plenty to do, lots of room to roam, and a safe, well-organized environment. SteelStacks is a powerful example of how a community can honor its past while building something vibrant and meaningful for the future--and PEEPSFEST is just one of many reasons to visit. read more

This is such a unique concert venue. The steel plant is a very cool backdrop, and I like how it was all lit up at night for the concert. The venue has plenty of space to roam around, and you can get lots of good views of the stage from all sides. If you don't want to hang in the crowded pit area there are lots of tables further out by the food and drink vendors. The main concert area is a lawn. It seems like for less crowded shows you can bring blankets and chairs, and then for more popular acts it's standing only which made sense. Logistics - Parking is free and easy. The security line moved fast. There were plenty of bathrooms. Bars could be more plentiful (like more small bars vs fewer big bars) since lines seemed crazy. Overall it's a very fun and different place to see a show, and if you live in North Jersey don't overlook the fact that your travel time here is similar to going into the city. It's worth keeping an eye on the calendar for sure! read more

SteelStacks is an outdoor venue that is very horizontal. As others have noted, you will not have good sightlines to the stage from a lot of angles. But that's not why I'm only giving two stars. I was front row, so the sightlines didn't affect me. Here's what did: The rules. No photography of any kind? I have _never_ run into this ANYWHERE. Advertisement on the screen to win a Cake T-shirt (or something). So of course I followed the instructions only to learn that I had to pay money for it. Deception! The staff was clearly looking for people to take out their phones. The punishment would be immediate ejection from the venue. Why? What. Are. We. Hurting. With. Cameras? I'm glad I got to see a band I love, at a price that wasn't too crazy. Free parking is a bonus you don't see very often. And I had... ahem... a potty emergency while waiting in line. The one woman said I could NOT go into the restrooms, but there was the museum "back across the street" (I couldn't walk that far) or "maybe Port-a-Johns in the Oktoberfest" (I checked, there were not). Fortunately the guy near her was willing to walk in with me when I asked again, because it really was that bad. He stayed inside with me, walked me back to the line - super nice. So, the pluses: Free parking and one assistant. The minuses: Terrible rules, not well designed, out for your money. The verdict: Do not see a concert at this venue unless you hate taking a photo as a keepsake. read more

SteelStacks is a beautiful multipurpose space in Bethlehem! I've now been in for an improv festival and attended a wedding here as a guest, and found both experiences to be really great. The venue itself is stunning and rich with history, complete with a lot of convenience like ample parking, a hotel and casino onsite, and super helpful staff. Given that this space has everything, you think quality would be sacrificed in terms of food, drinks, etc - but it absolutely is not. The ballroom for the wedding was really gorgeous and the entire event moved smoothly from area to area. The improv fest was well-organized and well attended, and I appreciate how committed the organization is to supporting local artists and showcasing the best of the region. Looking forward to the next time life takes me to the Lehigh Valley and SteelStacks! read more

Really cool and unique attraction that gives a fascinating look into Bethlehem's industrial history. The old steel structures are massive and make for some great photo opportunities, and the area around it is well-kept and easy to explore. That said, I'm taking one star off because I expected this to be the kind of place where you could spend a good chunk of time, but in reality, you'll likely be done in 20-30 minutes unless there's an event going on. It's still worth visiting, but it's more of a quick stop than a full outing. On the bright side, it's completely free, which makes it absolutely worth checking out if you're in the area. Great mix of history, art, and architecture -- just don't plan your entire afternoon around it. read more

Really neat venue. I love how they repurposed the old Bethlehem Steel Plant and are making it come alive. There are raised platforms that have information markers that tell the story of the old plant and its history and let it come alive as you can look into bits and pieces of the old plant. These are free to access and there are huge lots with free parking. The old plant is also the site of many events during the year. We went at Christmas for the Christkindl markt, but they also advertise a New Years event, summer concerts and a variety of other events. SteelStacks is a combination historical attraction/music/event venue on the former Bethlehem Steel Plant site. My review will focus on the historical attraction portion of the property. Before visiting, check the SteelStacks website for events that could be using the site. Parking is free in several adjacent parking lots. The visitor's center is very lean with a few displays, courtesy desk, some Bethlehem Steel merchandise for sale, and bathrooms. The main attraction is the still standing blast furnaces, which can be viewed by walking on the Hoover-Mason Trestle, a former small railroad that's now been converted into a walkway. The walking tour is free, self-guided, and there is an elevator for handicap accessibility. Seeing the former blast furnaces up close is an impressive sight. The trestle also has information stops to learn about what happened at Bethlehem Steel. It has also been turned into a greenspace with various plants growing on parts of the structure. The walkway ends at the far parking lot for the Wind Creek Bethlehem casino. Biggest issue is, even though the blast furnaces are impressive, this felt like something that after you see once, you don't have to come back. The walk takes at best an hour and plan to do it on a day that's not hot as there's only limited shade. Plan to pair visiting this with a tour of the National Museum of Industrial History, an event going on at the SteelStacks, a visit to the casino, or some shopping at the The Outlets at Wind Creek. I'm glad I visited the SteelStacks, but I can't say it's worth going out of your way to see. read more

Even though the stacks have not been in operation in over 25 years, it's a marvel to view this site. Many immigrants worked and died here in its day. There are placards along the walkway so you can get close to this eery site. Kinda spooky. There's a playground for children near this area. read more

Attended Peepsfest 2021 at SteelStacks. The event ran smoothly and was super fun. But as for the SteelStacks venue, wow, what a neat vision! The preserved old steel mill is at the foot of the valley. Lehigh University climbs the "hill" (more like a mountain) facing the venue, and downtown Bethlehem sprawls in every direction around the stacks. The venue comprises a sort of campus of new buildings, plus a rehabbed stone building attached to the metal plant. A chic new staircase leads up to the height of the machine works, and rail lines that stand over 2 stories off the ground. The concert stage backs into the towering mill, using it as a backdrop for performances. A decent sized lawn is laid out in front of the stage. It's more of a Mann Center feel, than BB&T Pavilion size. For me, I'd love to go back and see a concert there. Bathrooms were clean, and plentiful in the renovated historic stone building. There was also a bar in there, with a good amount of seating. Food was okay. Typical stadium type fare, at typical stadium type prices. The chicken fingers were just 3 fingers on a bed of batter-dipped (yuk) fries, for $10. Lehigh Valley pierogies come 4 for $5, with sour cream. Yuengling 16oz beers in cans were $7. Stacks are lit up with colored spotlights at night. Sound is decent from stage. Pretty white string lights on trees, at least during holiday time. Parking lot was clean, safe, well-lit. Saw a patrol mule cart roaming around if you needed anything. Super cool venue! read more

Thought this would be a boring site and was so glad I saw it. Driving around the site is amazing.

Came to this beautiful location for one of our friend's wedding ceremony and reception. It was so cool seeing this factory getting off our party bus. We were told to go inside first before the ceremony was to start. It was a great idea because it is November.....in PA. You can't imagine how cold it was outside. We got to get a drink inside before being ushered to go outside. Although it was freezing, the ceremony was simply beautiful! Right afterwards we went back inside where we went to the 2nd floor to the reception. The decoration was gorgeous and the food...the servers were on point with those appetizers. Pulled pork, empanadas, egg rolls, and many other dishes I didn't get to try. It was very well decorated and organized. Sadly, the dimmed lighting def caused me to get someone else's jacket. I'm pretty sure that the other jacket owner got my jacket first to where I got hers. Luckily she caught me before the bus left to the casino...and that's another story. haha. Overall, the scenery is gorgeous and I wish we had the chance to tour it (but not in the heels that I was wearing that evening. haha) read more

This is a cool place to walk around and learn the history of Bethlehem Steel. I went with family that I was visiting and we all had a great time. There is plenty to look at, easy-to-read signs, and well-cultivated gardens. There are other things to do around the area and this is apparently a venue for events. I was just there for the history and to spend time with my nephew. I would caution that this does involve steps and I am unsure if they have any handicapped accessible ramps or elevators. read more

This place was Uber cool. Aside from the steelworks that have been abandoned since the 90s from where this place takes its name, there's also much more to offer. The steel stacks themselves are very interesting, Especially at night when they are lit up like a post-industrial steampunk apocalypse. (I came up with that description all by myself). If you love abandoned spaces that nature is reclaiming you will love this place. There's placards to tell you the history. And some of it is creepy. There have been deaths here due to unsafe working conditions. The unions were formed because of just such conditions. Additionally there's a neat if small playground with spinners and rocks to climb. Once you come down from the steel stacks and the kids need to run off some energy. There are bathrooms that are open at the visitors center even when the center closes. They are updated and large with handicapped and changing tables as well as Ramps to get in for handicapped accessibility. There are outdoor stages where on the weekends they have free concerts. The night we went there were food trucks and kiosks offering food at reasonable prices. There's also an indoor mall but we came too late last time to check it out. I want to go again and see this next time. We did have one incident that happened. As my nine year old son was walking by a lady and her dog the dog lunged forward and bit his leg. We moved away from them and sat down on the curb to make sure he was ok and IMMEDIATELY security and an EMT were there making sure he was ok. They gave him an ice pack, made sure he was ok (bruises no broken skin) and hunted the woman down from the crowd and talked to her and got her info. They got our info and were very kind. They were right on top of things. I might have had a bad visit if it weren't for their intervention but as it was they were super professional. They even talked my husband down who went into papa bear mode when his son got hurt if you know what I mean. I was pleased. And we will be back. Five stars. read more

I just went to the Maroon 5 concert last night at the SteelStack's Sands Steel Stage. It was amazing and even better than the night before at Susquehanna Bank Center. Here are some things to put in to perspective. SEATING We sat in Section 206 which was elevated so you get a great view of the stage rather than peering through people. SOUND Absolutely perfect and not too loud. I found myself loving this venue because everything was crystal clear. We could hear the music and the singing just fine. LIGHTS Wonderful use of lights here. Plus, there is a great skyline of the old relic Steel Furnaces which is cool with those blue and purple colors. SCREENS Even better use of the screens to see the band compared to Susquehanna Bank Park. It was nice to see things up close and also see the whole stage and backdrop. MUSIKFEST AT STEELSTACKS (August 6, 2011) 1. Food and drinks- I spent close to $20 on food and drinks and had to get those stupid food/drink tickets since vendors only took tickets. This was a major drag and had to actually figure out how many tickets to get before going to get food. Some vendors took both cash and tickets so that was better. I had a rautweurst sausage combo with fries and drink which was a total of 20 tickets ($10) plus $2 in change. I had roasted corn on the cob with parm, garlic, and pepper for 8 tickets ($4). A bottle of ice tea was 6 tickets ($3). 2. Free music- The Levitt Pavilion had some free music which was okay. No covered seats except for the ones near the food/drink ticket booth. We grabbed a table with a huge umbrella. My friend had a towel to wipe off the rain water. 3. Ponchos- I went to the ArtsQuest store to get ponchos for my friends. Within 15 minutes, I grabbed 4 ponchos and afterwards went for another which was already sold out. Each poncho will cost you $3 which is decent. I found out later that people were selling them at the Sands Stage later that night. 4. Will Call Tickets- There was a trailer to pick up tickets which was a bit inconvenient compared to the indoors front desk at ArtsQuest. Anyways, people were friendly enough and got my tickets. 5. Merchandise- You will find merchandise sold at each stage location. The one next to Levitt Pavilion is reasonable at $10 for t-shirt but only 1 medium left which was perfect for me. At the Sands Stage, merchandise for Maroon 5 started at $5 for a keychain, $10 for a can snuggie holder, $30 for a t-shirt, and $60 for a hoodie. I checked online and you are paying an extra $6 compared to Live Nation online store. Between the two, I would support the local PA band rather than Maroon 5 which already earns enough from my ticket sale. 6. Parking- You will find lots which will charge you $10 but we found one for free at the Northampton Community College campus just before the SteelStack campus entrance sign. A few cars parked and no signs about parking prohibited. Get there early since it will fill up. Plus, just a short walk to the SteelStack campus through the ArtsQuest and SteelStack staff parking. Follow the pathway through and look for the Steel Furnaces to guide you. read more

I came here for Meeting of the Malts VI at the end of March and this is a really nice venue. There's plenty of (free) parking and I love that they've renovated and are reusing the old steel stacks instead of tearing them down. The venue inside was spacious and we had no issues navigating it. I would definitely come here again for an event! read more

Let's see: Poor venue sight lines? Check Crazy post-concert traffic issues? Check Tickets that are priced more in Bethlehem than in Philly, Baltimore/DC, Hershey, or Scranton for the same acts? Check Extortionist F&B ticket prices? Check So the reason to come see a show at Steel Stacks is? Maybe Parks & Co. will figure it out one of these years that just because you slap the Musikfest/ArtsQuest name on something does not mean that it's going to sell. The ticket sales speak volumes about the quality of the bookings and in particular about the prices as they were way down this year. Hopefully ArtsQuest raises their game for next year and really finds a way to make the experience better/more cohesive and to get the locals who they have ticked off for years now more involved because they're not going to make a ton of money without them. Or they could just take the next logical and arrogant step by fencing things in around the ArtsQuest compound while charging admission like SummerFest, blow up any music on the North Side, all while continuing to increase beer and F&B prices so that it can be what Parks apparently wants and that's a wine cooler laden-pinkie in the air fest for the well to do of the NY-NJ-CT tri-state area. read more

I've been to the indoor concert space at this venue a couple times before to see David Bromberg and Chris Smither, but last night was my first show at the outdoor Levitt Pavillion, where I was treated to a free concert by blues legend Eric Bibb. Bibb is an expat American who lives in Sweden, and rarely plays in the USA. This was one of only three shows he is performing in the USA on this concert tour, and the only one on the East Coast. There's plenty of free parking at this facility, and it is an easy ride from NY/NJ on route 78. The venue is great, as long as the weather cooperates, as it is outdoors. The backdrop of the old Bethlehem steel mills is quite dramatic. Bring your own folding lawn chair or blanket. There is a food truck that sells burgers, fries, snacks, ice cream, alchoholic and non-alchoholic beverages, and a swag table where you can buy CD's and meet the artist after the show for autographs. The outdoor sound system is very good. Bibb played an energetic, inspired set for almost two hours. Did I mention that it was free? What's not to like? read more

This was our first time to a concert event at Steel Stacks. The location lacks parking, but most lots around the Steel Stacks charge $10, which is more then fair. The entrance doesn't seem well marked. Oh, actually there was a large sign pointing to the entrance, but a 69 News van was blocking the signage. Once you go into the venue and have your bag checked, there are lots of food and beverage vendors. We just wanted some fries and a beer. So I ordered fries and crabby fries. They were way too crisp. And the cheese for crabby fries was plain watered down cheddar. Absolutely sucked. So after we got our fries, then we had to go to the beer line. Try holding fries, napkins and your stuff while paying for beer. Once we had that, now where to eat and drink, but alas there are no areas to sit down and enjoy the crappy food you've just purchased. Since we can't sit and have our beer and food, we decide to hit our seats. Upon walking into the seating area, you notice that it is a clean venue with decent site lines. That was refreshing. Our seats were EASY to find. So, I can't figure out why so many people that entered after us were confused as to they're section or seats. I had three morons take my wife seat and tell me they had that seat. When I looked at their ticket I found that they were in the wrong section. Maybe ushers need more training or people are just plain dumb. Our seats were great and we could see the stage well, until the two drunk bitches sat in front of us and proceeded to dance during the show while raising their arms in the air blocking multiple peoples views. Maybe the beer servers need better training as in DO NOT CONTINUE TO SERVE WOMEN THAT ARE EXTREMELY DRUNK OF THEIR ASSES. That said.... The sound quality was fabulous and the production values are extremely high. Overall this is a great, or would seem to be a great venue. If not for the drunk ass bitches, food and beverage standing room only issues I would give the location a higher rating. I'm sure we will come back here again. Just won't be purchasing food, but only a drink. read more

My father grew up in Bethlehem and my grandfather worked at the steel before and after WWII and yet somehow I'd never properly visited the SteelStacks. Growing up in the wake of the post-Industrial era and the onset of the Rust Belt, it's just so hard for me to imagine everything surrounding the steel industry from the grueling working conditions to the corporate greed and municipal reliance on these mammoth machinery and the chiseled men who tamed them. Sadly the giant stacks and warehouses are hauntingly beautiful in their rusted out anachronistic beauty. I could have explored for hours and I greatly appreciated all the signs detailing the different processes involved with making the steel. I was inspired to go and check out some books from the library detailing the collapse of the steel industry and Bethlehem Steel specifically. There are so many history lessons to be taken from this place and it's a tremendous exercise in imagination and humility to consider how these colossal machines once made Bethlehem so much different than it is today. Beyond incredible. I really hope that it serves as a monument to our human greed, stubbornness and endless capabilities. Definitely worth a visit, and especially given the ample free parking it is nigh criminal to visit Bethlehem without checking out the stacks. The elevated walkways were brilliantly designed to bring you eye level with so much of the machinery and educate you with the signs full of history and the mechanics of this mythical industry. read more

It is sad and sobering to read through and tour all of the Steel educational and historical information, which is all nicely done. We drove a long way to see Milky Chance this past Friday night. I had never been to this venue before, so I didn't know what to expect. We arrived and the parking was free and it was practically empty. Score! We started walking towards the outdoor stage, and were confused when we didn't see anyone out there. We decided to wander around a bit, and I'm glad we did because we got to see a lot of cool things and learn a little about Bethlehem Steel. It was a really great and interesting view. I thought it was beautiful. We eventually figured out that they were performing inside on the third floor cafe. It was an intimate space, and I was glad because I could see the stage clearly. The music was great and the show was amazing. I had so much fun. I think what made it even better were the great view we had of the steel plant. I wish we had an outdoor concert experience, but I was able to enjoy myself either way! read more

Went to the food truck wars at Steel Stacks today. It was Pennsylvania against New Jersey with a variety of food options. It cost $10.00 per person to enter with minor discounts for the children. In addition to to food trucks there was beer, water and soda tents. Once you paid the entrance fee you still had to pay for the food and drinks. All of the lines were very long and they did have seating scattered throughout the event area, but most of the seating was in the middle of the parking lot with no umbrellas so it was very hot! There were a lot of people sitting in the tree line in the mulch to find a shaded area. I was with 3 other family members and each of us got food from a different food truck so it gave us the opportunity to try a variety of foods. I would have liked to have tried more but the lines were too long. I had the wood fire pizza which was ok. I could've had pizza anywhere so I was a bit disappointed that u didn't choose one of the other unique foods offered at one of the trucks especially after I tasted it. My husband had a perogie bowl which was phenomenal. All in all, it was a nice afternoon out, but a bit pricey for the event, food and given the lines were so long limiting the different foods you could try. It could get really pricey for a small family after paying the entrance fee then purchasing the food.so not a cheap option for families. The SteelStacks are beautiful, with beautiful lighting and tons to see, it is a destination you should not miss in Bethlehem. However, if you can, bring your own food/drink (for outside activities). The food/bevs inside are terribly overpriced and not even good. Ick. I think sometimes the LV forgets that it is in eastern PA and not in the UWS. read more

We just hosted a wedding reception at the SteelStacks (Arts Quest Musikfest Cafe) and it was *amazing!* The views from the floor-to-ceiling windows are spectacular, the food and drinks were great and the event coordinators (Susan and Adrienne) made the whole process a joy. The guests were literally raving about the setting and the whole experience. If you want a memorable event, this can't be beat! read more

During Musikfest... Venue MUCH better than Sand Island. If you held up your thumb in the lawn at sand island, that's how big the performer was. Stadium seats for sections in the 200's. Good sound overall right off 3rd street and founders way. Parking available close up for $10.00. Worth it if it's raining. read more

My 1st time at Octoberfest and 99.9 the hawk bingo bash. It was an amazing time. Great food, dessert and drinks and awesome bingo. read more

Been to dozens of shows and many dinners for local fundraisers. Food is always very good and service is top notch. Private events have better service, maybe because it is all the same menu. Views are terrific. Come early and explore the campus. read more

This review is for the Mack Truck Stop at SteelStacks. The employees there are rude. My nephew ordered a burger with no cheese. They forgot to ask the cook to make one, so after a long wait, my nephew asked if they could throw in some fries because they forgot about his order. The cook said, "Tell that asshole that he doesn't get anything for free." My nephew wasn't a jerk about it - he merely asked. There's no reason to call a customer an asshole. Then an elderly woman next to me ordered a cheeseburger, and every time she uttered the words "cheeseburger", the employee sighed impatiently and snapped, "They're called Bethlehem Burgers here."
