This shop is dangerous! As soon as you walk inside you know you've found a great spot - color everywhere and handmade treasures. Their main attraction is, you guessed it, eggs. Hand-painted beautiful works of art in any color you could ever imagine. They're all beautiful. If you choose to purchase multiples you'll be given a cardboard egg box to place up to 10 in and then they'll wrap it for you up front when you go to pay. They're all about $7-10 each with some more detailed, larger eggs up front for about $60. I came both days and the ladies behind the counter were exceedingly friendly. They ask you don't take a ton of photos (except of what you're going to buy) so as to preserve the art. But they did let me take some for my mother to see what she'd like from a range of options. They also gave me a card and said they can ship items if I show a photo as not everything is listed on their website. Loved it!!! read more

Christmas in Salzburg is a very popular store so I chose it to purchase a souvenir to mark our trip to Austria. Before arriving I did not know that the inventory is mostly hand painted eggs. They do have a decent amount of Christmas bulbs and other decorations but I was looking for Santa Claus so I just poked around the enormous amount of painted eggs throughout the entire store. All of the eggs seemed to have intricate designs in every color that I could think of. Each area looked to be color coordinated with nice displays so if painted eggs are what you are looking for it is easy to maneuver through the store to find what you are looking for. The eggs are very beautiful, delicate and fragile looking. They are open year round and there was a sign that indicated that they will ship your purchase to your home. read more

There are ornaments, items, banners, and garlands. There are items for the tree, and items for the railing. It is glass. It is crystal. It is a real egg. These are handmade and worth the look. You might also find something to buy. We went in and walked out with one item to add to the holiday. This is a place worth visiting and to live for a moment in the spirit of the seasons. Beautifully decorated eggs everywhere you look. This store just keeps going and going and it's worth your time to browse comprehensively to ensure you don't miss something amazing. The eggs are generally arranged by color, but sometimes by holiday (yes, Easter and Halloween are also represented at "Christmas in Salzburg"). Last time I visited I bought one egg. It was a lovely blue with an Austrian Christmas scene painted on it. In the years since its brought me so much joy on my tree. On my most recent visit I bought 8 eggs. Now I'm wishing I had picked up even more. They can be a bit pricy but given the level of work involved making them I think the price is more than reasonable. Just take my money............. The ladies who manage this establishment were very nice and helpful. It was a goal of mine to find some authentic Christmas eggs and this place was HEAVEN! TIP: Do not get mesmerized by the front of the store! There are so many options as you continue on. Take a walk around and pick out what you like! Also the help "egg cartons" that are provided help you choose what you like without damaging the integrity of the product. The store will package them to withstand interstellar space travel if you ask them nicely. Also pay card to get the best exchange rates! read more
