In the current time, with the lack of rain, which has the Susquehanna very shallow, I don't see how else you can get here aside from a helicopter or walking on water. I know that you can put in north of the Statue in places like Duncannon or Halifax, but I prefer to do it the hard way which is at Fort Hunter and then trekking the mile plus upriver against the current. The only real way to approach from the south especially with the low water levels is to head over towards 322 to get around the large amount of rocks which guard the statue's front. Is there really something to see here? No, but it is a unique cultural oddity and to me worth a trip that few people ever get to experience up close.

Ok I guess the best advice, I think should be mentioned right away is this .... if you are coming here to get a document apostilled ... especially if you are coming here for the first time .. Please remember to CALL the office before you come, to make sure you have everything you need and explain the document you want apostilled to the person issuing the apostille as it might need to be notarized before it can be apostilled (like my documents needed to be) For example, the person in front of me drove a couple of hours to this office in Harrisburg in hopes of receiving a document and have it apostilled here ... only to find out that this office could not issue the document he needed, only issue the apostille, meaning you needed to have the document already before coming here !! Pretty vital information ... It doesn't hurt to call and confirm information that you believe to be true ... even if it's just to make sure the office is open ! ; ) other useful info ... Walk-in requests are accepted from 8:30AM to 4:00PM, Monday through Friday (except State holidays) If using a GPS device for driving directions, please use 401 North Street for the street address. apostilles cost $15 per APostille ( i used checks ) you can also mail in a document to be apostilled, you must include a self addressed PRE PAID envelope ( if you are not in a rush ) Do not send CASH after 3 pm you must enter the main state building aka employees entrance to get to the North office building you must go through security (x-ray scanner ) bag check to get into this building

I cracked the Farm Show code on timing, eating, and crowd avoidance--and when that happens, it deserves a Yelp review. After a spectacularly unsuccessful attempt to attend on a rainy Saturday (hard no), we regrouped and tried again on Monday evening, right after work. The strategy: arrive before the after-school-pickup-then-dinner crowd descended. At 5:00pm on the dot, we exited the highway onto Cameron Street. The electronic signs were screaming "TURN LEFT FOR FARM SHOW PARKING," yet there was no traffic turning into the main lot. Reader, I tempted fate. Moments later--$15 poorer but spiritually richer--we were parked in the main lot, just steps from the back entrance. No shuttle bus. No herding. No screaming children pressed against my will. I was stunned. The Farm Show gods had smiled upon us. Riding the high of our parking miracle, we hustled inside with a very clear and disciplined plan: Go directly to food. Do not browse. Do not touch. Do not get distracted. If you need to pee, you wait until after we eat. We power-walked straight to the food court and were immediately suspicious...because it was EMPTY. No lines. No chaos. Tables everywhere. It felt like we had broken into the Farm Show after hours. We split up and conquered, grabbing everything our fried-food-loving hearts desired. The haul: fried mushrooms, stuffed mushrooms, a strawberry milkshake, potato donuts, a pit beef sandwich, an apple dumpling with vanilla ice cream, and maple candy (for balance, obviously). The longest wait time? Two minutes. And that was for pit beef--which felt totally reasonable and honestly luxurious by Farm Show standards. With full bellies and zero regrets, we strolled through vendors and animal exhibits in a calm, almost serene state--something I didn't think was possible at the Farm Show. This experience easily ranks above every other visit I can remember. Perfect timing. Perfect strategy. Perfect amount of fried food. If you've ever left the Farm Show sweaty, overstimulated, and questioning your life choices, just know: it is possible to win. Monday at 5pm. You're welcome.

The deco elements, high ceilings, and brass remind us of a time when the post was elegant and formal. It has been painted over, whitewashed, left neglected or built over for the modern post office. Full service has been friendly but I often find the office understaffed and even ringing the bell doesn't bring someone to the window with the first few tries. Don't even bother calling them. Parking is limited but then it does not seem to be busy when it is open. Handicapped parking is limited and hard to find. You'll have to take the steep stairs if you can't find the one spot available. If you're local, it's fine for dropping off or getting a money order in the middle of the afternoon. Just check the hours. I maintain a PO Box here for my basic business transactions and correspondence. I still collect the mail of the previous renter for some reason and have to turn it in.

The bank goblin from Harry Potter was writing something and VERY SLOWLY put his pen aside and asked to help me as I was awkwardly standing there. He told me I needed to fill out the slips, and so I was like "can I have a pen?" and he SLOWLY handed me one. I filled the 2 slips out lickity split and before he could inhale another breath I was back. He SLOWLY took the first package and my soul told me I would be standing there a VERY LONG TIME. He took an eternity to type. I had to help him spell things. Meanwhile customers were arriving behind me and my foot started to twitch. I looked at my son waiting behind me with a knowing glance, and I also made eye contact with the other worker with "HELP" on my face. He asked the goblin if he needed help but he said "no" and I was like "um, yes he does, please take over" I apologized profusely to the people behind me because I felt so bad even though it wasn't my fault at all. I hated that I needed stamps also, because the total time I was there was almost 45 minutes to mail two packages. EXPENSIVE packages, I might add. Who pays 20 dollars to send Skittles to Denmark? This dumb ass that is a pen pal and a loyal one. Do yourself a favor and go to ANOTHER post office. I am done here. Also, he NEVER apologized to the people that had been waiting, the ones that were left! Half of them left in pure frustration.

However, this is a great bridge over troubled waters (polluted Susquehanna River) that carries Harrisburgers to and fro City Island and the west shore.
