The only Christmas music station you ever need: SiriusXM®'s Holiday Traditions (Channel 776)
    John D.

Christmas as Usual I have a bit of a moral dilemma when it comes to my feelings on Christmas, as I hate the commercial juggernaut that it has become, but I love Christmas music. But not just any Christmas music, mind you, but old timey Christmas music from the '50s and '60s. Something about the corny, cheese factor I find endearing. I can't stand any of this newer artists redoing old hits bullshit--and please don't get me started on Mariah Carey... I love it so much that I swear on my firstborn that I play it 24/7/365 at my desk at work. Being 100% honest, I only started doing it to annoy my co-workers, but now it's grown on me. You can swing-by my cube at any time and hear SiriusXM®'s Holiday Traditions (Channel 776) playing at just the right decibel to turn "Frosty the Snowman" into your earworm de jour. Now, please enjoy this holiday classic by Shirley Temple that's sure to get your Xmas spirit going at any time of the year: https://youtu.be/aUA7BPnog_0

I'm not sure why, but I'm just not a fan of Christmas songs especially when they start in November! I don't like it when my usual radio station switches from adult contemporary to all Christmas music the week before Thanksgiving. Sure, I'll tell Alexa to play some Christmas music as we put the tree up and then she can play some more on Christmas morning while we're all sitting around and unwrapping presents. But that's about as much of it as I can stand. Interesting fact... several of the most popular Christmas songs were actually written and sung by Jews! "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" by Mel Torme. Jewish. "It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" by George Wyle and Eddie Pola. Both Jews. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" by Johnny Marks. Jewish! And that great classic "White Christmas" by Irving Berlin? Jewish! How cool is that? Just before the holidays on the team meeting, our project manager asked each of to sing a little bit of a Christmas song. I went with the classic. "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth." It's an easy lyric to remember. [Review 16534 overall - 387 in Texas - 44 of 2022.]

I'm with Brent... I loathe the Christmas season and it's onslaught of seasonal sings that usually start Nov 1 in so many places. Being forced to listen to Christmas songs everywhere I go is a no go for me. So many people don't celebrate Christmas whether it be religion or trauma from childhood or any variety of reasons. Let's keep the holiday tunes to personal listening pleasures. I do confess I will occasionally listen to Christmas songs of my choosing. I also own a handful albums in Lp and Cd formats, although my favorite came in a cassette (remember those?). About 2 decades later I replaced that Cassette with a Cd for my holiday enjoyment. Any guesses what it could be? I'm including some pics... * Note * I am a five star fan of Halloween songs!

Oh good, there's a Yelp page for this :-) Happy Christmas eve-eve 2021 my friends!

I'm like Santa and after the big day I normally put Christmas season in the reader view mirror so I hesitated to drop this review. However I came across this page when I was in a ho ho ho mode, started to write it but left it to lanquish with all the other drafts. I'm doing a day of rest and this kept popping up, very annoyingly, so here goes ...... I gotta say that I'm old school when it comes to Christmas songs. I don't listen to 'em until well after I've had my Thanksgiving bird, ever. I don't want my Christmas off to a bad start by suffering with Christmas music fatigue by the time December 1st rolls around, seriously. But once I turn it on I'm all in through Christmas day and just like that it's a no-go for the next 334 days, full stop. I will never get tired of Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or Silent Night because I dearly love all the traditional songs of the holiday, you know the ones I always sang as a kid. But as we get older we can appreciate the songs of our youth and have room for new favorites too. Joy to the World, Carol of the Bells, O Holy Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem, The First Noel, What Child Is This?, Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, Deck the Halls, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Jingle Bell Rock, Blue Christmas, and that list goes on, but there's some pretty nice ones for an updated playlist. Songs like "Santa Tell Me" by Ariana Grande, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey, ... 3 "Like It's Christmas" by the Jonas Brothers, "Mistletoe" by Justin Bieber", 8 Days of Christmas" by Destiny's Child, & "My Gift Is You" by Gwen Stefani. But I couldn't post on this page without adding something you might not have heard before and it'll be my "what to" & "what not to" picks of the season. So I really love me some John Denver, I do, but he did a Christmas song that is just awful on so many levels: "Please, Daddy (Don't Get Drunk on Christmas) is one that just might want to skip :-) https://youtu.be/Li8GrxE1jfg On the other hand many of you may have never heard of this guy, but he played this for me, just him & his guitar, when he was writing the song. I really loved it and was happy that he eventually recorded it. It's "Christmas in Virginia" by my old pal Clinton Gregory https://youtu.be/FGr0ihI_HfE Bottom line: Whatever genre works for you, from to the Pavarotti to the Chipmunks, it's all good because hey it's Christmas :-)

I got this in an email today - MAKE it STOP!!!

OMG - I'm gonna die. I don't think I will make it through this looooooong Christmas season. I just heard the first Christmas jingle of the season (11/28/19). I'm honestly surprised that it took so long for the first Christmas tune to appear over broadcast radio. I love Christmas, and the Christmas season just like anyone else, but OMG, shoot me in the head with these damned Christmas tunes that are played over and over. Write some new ones, for crying out loud! Just in case you are interested, the first one of the season that I heard was Silver Bells by Garth Brooks. How many more times can this tune be recorded???

They even have a section dedicated to Numero Group releases, which I thought was super rad. If you want to try your hand at the bargain bin, there's a room with 50-cent records, too. There is a section near the front (you'll need to kneel) of clearance records underneath some New Arrivals. The folks who work here know and love music, so if you have any questions, I'm sure they'd be happy to chat about it.

I always end up walking out with more than 2 records each visit as their pricing and selection is worth visiting each time. The layout of the shop is great. I recommend starting left side of the shop and work your way around to the right side. You will find all genres sorted out and organized in a very simple and easy to navigate way. Most of the newest arrivals (from folks who are selling or trading their records in) to the back left side. I like starting here just in case I end up finding something cool that just came in. It's a nice way to be able to see what came through to the shop in the last day or two and these records are always diverse in genre. I really enjoy the vintage collection the shop has as decor here. I have seen 8-track players, lunch boxes, older posters from classic albums, cassette players, and even some cool nostalgic childhood toys. I kept smiling at each vintage or throwback items I saw that often tells you "not for sale" or "NFS" stickers on it. As a record collector I take the condition of records seriously before purchasing. I am the annoying record collector who will slide the record out of the sleeve and bend it up to the light to check for scratches, dirt, dust, etc. The last few visits at Crazy Rhythms I have been purchasing and not checking the condition or quality because I trust what I am getting is going to be playable and no bumps/hiccups when I do play them. You will get very good to high-quality records here no doubt. Just heads up - every record collector should know that the cheaper the price (aka clearance or discounted items) usually the quality will suffer but THAT IS NOT THE CASE HERE. You will get better than great quality records and anything that is priced low is probably overstock, common record/selection, and is always priced fairly. You can trust in this record store. Trust. Parking is super easy - just pull right up to the front of the store or park in the private lot. Even when the tourist attractions are busy around the store you will most definitely be able to stop in without having to worry about parking. Parking is never a thing for me even when Fiesta is happening. Check out the selections I have picked up in the few times I have come thru in my photos.

Hence, "The Rock and Roll Fleamarket" every few months on Southtown 101 Bar's parking lot. Although there are a few vendors you can still find collectibles, rarities and other items of interest at fair or competitive prices. Items for the most part are geared towards people with tastes in classic horror films, rare vinyl and other rock and roll memorabilia. For example I bought a copy of John Carpenter's debut film, "Dark Star" on VHS for a buck. I found a few cool concert tees that I will eventually cut out and sew onto hoodies. The degree of the inventory you will find is always contingent on the weather. When it's cold the vendors are sparse. But in the Spring booths are more abundant. The crowd ranges from curious Southtown dwellers, crusty punks, metal heads, record collectors and everyone in between. Vendors, who are typically local artists will work with you on prices. In addition the bar is open early on this event with music on the patio, serving drinks and cooking up burgers. It has a Second Saturday feel with a friendly vibe. I really like this small, local market event. Although it occurs every few months it is still worth checking out. Whether you're looking for vinyl to add to your collection, gotta have your horror film fix or trying to jazz up your style with a little R-n-R this might be your place. Parking can be interesting but is still worth it. ps. You know you need that "Slayer" banner to accompany your armoire in your living room ASAP!

There's all kinds of vendors doing their side hustle, selling old VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs and other rock n roll. There's plenty of artsy kinda rock n roll stuff to check out here too. Need pins to put on your leather jacket? They have protest pins for every possible cause. They sell patches to put on your sleeve to show how tough you are at the next Motley Crue concert. There's always fun stuff you can get here to look like a real punk badass in the mosh pit at the next concert. There's usually a few old concert tee shirts for sale, and lots of prints and depictions of rock legends. However, for my tastes, there's never enough paintings of Elvis on black velvet. The fleamarket is held occasionally in the parking lot of the Southtown 101 Bar. They usually blast some heavy metal music, and it's a fun way to find that KISS statue you know you always wanted, or that Gwar mask that would complete your rock n roll ensemble.
