I had breast lift with implants and caught an infection and had to get the implants out. I see now under his many different reviews and in the waiting room that many patients had caught bad infections. They told me everything would be covered then said they never said that. I paid and felt I had no choice but to let him out my implants back in. At my preop recently me, lady crying real bad ( had an infection from a recent tummy tuck he did), and another lady (had a dead nipple) were all in one waiting room together. It is a 1% to 3% chance to have this happen and there were THREE of us on the same day that had infections...look at all his reviews and they absolutely blame the customers and brush us off! If you want good results, DO NOT go to this doctor! I think he cares more about his pride then his patients! 3 weeks ago I saw Dr Hess for injections. The office gave me a quote of $11 per unit for Xeomin. The first thing I thought was strange was he did not do any of the markings on the face like other injectors. My previous injectors treated under my eye and when I asked him about injecting into the "jelly roll", he did not even know what that meant. I told him my concerns (Crow feet and 11's) and he decided to treat the 11's, the crow's feet and my forehead. He did not want to touch the brows, which had a nice lift and arch to them already. When I search google it says "if you treat the forehead with botox/xeomin you should treat the brows" but he choose not to. A week passed, and one eyebrow turned out to be a spock brow and the other brow had dropped, was hooded and very puffy. So, I had to wear double eyelid tape to hold it up a little. I made another appointment with him, told him what had happened. He said he did not see what I was talking about. He didn't even know what hooded or double eyelid tape was. I was literally in shock. I didn't know how he couldn't see what was wrong. My brows were nice and lifted before he worked on me. He continued to be rude and condescending. He made an excuse that my brows weren't even to begin with. I told him "well, they weren't like this"! I even said that my mother-in-law was giving me weird looks trying to figure out what was wrong with my face. He said "Well, maybe she's weird"! I practically had to beg him to fix it! He finally agreed to fix the dropped eyebrow and put 5 units under the brow. He said he will not treat the spock brow. I had to payed $63 for the touch up and it looks like the office lied about the price per unit. Also, I think he watered down that injection, it hardly did a think and is still significantly hooded. This doctor is a crook, and not very professional. Do not go to him because if you do and there is something you are not happy with he is basically going to laugh in your face. Now I have to wait a couple months for this unnatural angry look on my face to go away. read more

Before I begin, please note this review is based on Dr. Hess NOT performing a procedure. I have a round scar that takes up about a third of my knee. This scar has bothered me for years and it wasn't until recently that I discovered that it might be possible to reduce the scar. My dermatologist said the scar was too large and shallow for her to remove, but referred me to Dr. Hess. Dr. Hess' front of office staff are polite and accommodating. I had no problem making an appointment and when I came in, they knew who I was, what I was there for and made me as comfortable as possible. There was no wait time to see the doctor, which was a pleasant surprise. When I met with Dr. Hess he was very considerate and straightforward about my scar. He explained to me all of my options and in the end said they would all wind up leaving a larger scar or would have little effect on the size and shallowness. In the end his recommendation was to do nothing. I was a little disappointed, but quickly realized that he had listened to me tell the story behind the scar and how desperate I was to be rid of it and really could have sold me just about any snake oil at that moment. Instead of selling me on a procedure that would have minimal results or make the scar larger, he was honest with me and told me I would be happier to leave it as it is. His honesty and bedside manner truly impressed me. read more

I recently had my breast implants removed and a total capsulectomy due to my body having an adverse reaction to the implants. Upon being seen many Dr. Hess for my initial consult, he took the time and listened to me, listened to my symptoms, and ultimately agreed that this was the appropriate course of action for someone in my situation. I had a lot of questions, and so did my husband, however we didn't need to ask hardly any of them since Dr Hess basically answered everything before we could ask. I love his sense of humor and sarcasm... I knew immediately I wanted him to perform my surgery... I had an appt later than afternoon for another consult with a different surgeon and canceled it. My husband even agreed that Dr. Hess was the one. Katie at the front desk was extremely sweet and helpful as is Dr Hess's wife, who he works alongside and has hilarious banter with. The two of them together are amazing! The surgery itself was noneventful (which is great), but I also need to mention that the surgery center he works out of also has an amazing staff. Everyone came in to ensure I was good to go, including Dr Hess who sat and chatted with my husband and I for a little bit before surgery. He is a perfectionist... he's great at what he does. He's hilarious and sarcastic, which means he has a sense of humor... he is also honest. I went into my consult wanting a lift as well. If Dr. Hess had agreed, I would have willingly paid thousands of dollars more for a procedure he flat out told me I didn't need. He does not perform breast lifts at the same time as explant surgery... it's his way. And I appreciated him being honest and telling me I didn't need a lift. I was skeptical at first, but trusted him. And I am so glad I did. I didn't need a lift. I am extremely happy with my results and I'm only 3 weeks post op. My follow up appt was easy, removal of drains was easy... I would recommend Dr Hess to everyone. He really is the best and I am sooo glad I chose him to do my explant surgery. read more

Dr Hess performed my breast augmentation and lift. He was significantly late for my surgery, even though I was his first scheduled surgery of the day. His medical error during surgery caused a thrombosis to my lung, he cut too deeply. His error resulted in my hospitalization and medical tests, causing substantial pain, fear, and finally, additional and sizable out of pocket medical expenses. Six years later my implant ruptured. This happens in less than 1% of all breast implant patients. Unfortunately, Dr Hess, had to perform my repair and replacement operation. He gave me blatantly false information regarding my initial implant warranty, which caused additional and substantial out of pocket expenses. When I returned for my follow-up appointment with questions and concerns, Dr Hess could not possibly have been more rude or condescending. He became angry and belligerent that I was questioning him. He actually said, "bring it on, Lady!" (This lady, his patient, has a name). He then accused me of being a mindless patient who hadn't researched the implants that he put in my body, a shocking accusation from my surgeon, and untrue. I work in the medical field and I have never witnessed a doctor speak to a patient in such a disrespectful and derogatory manner, I was in tears. This surgeons negligence and over the top arrogance is deplorable. When Dr Hess is called on his serious medical errors he becomes a bully who berates and belittles a patient. read more

After visiting a few other surgeons in the NoVA/DC Metro/Richmond, Dr. Hess was the last on the list. I tried to visit all local PS's that received "5 stars" because I wanted to avoid any horror story that might land me on a TLC show. I really wanted to give 2 stars because the staff here was totally awesome. They were really sweet, upbeat, and extremely helpful. The office is also very well decorated, clean, and rather soothing. 5/5 for the staff and atmosphere! but then: I actually came in a day early for my consultation since we were due for a big snowstorm that day I was scheduled. It wasn't ideal but I agreed to come in, as I was pretty excited to be finishing these consultations already! After getting in their office, talking with his staff and filling out the paperwork, I was in an exam room waiting to see the PS. When my consultation started, it was really over before it began. He definitely didn't let off any calm and collected vibes as we began, so naturally my already nervous levels raised because this was my first ever surgery. It was at this point when I wish I had just scheduled surgery with one of the others I had visited instead of waiting for this one. It got totally mortifying after he asked why I was taking certain medications (I'm transgender). His whole demeanor changed then. He became awkward (more than he already was at that point), and his words (which were hard to come by it seemed) were harsher in tone. He explained he couldn't do it because of totally different anatomy's (this is incorrect for breast augmentation) and none of the other surgeons I visited said it was an issue. In my research prior to my consultations I posted several questions on realself.com to make sure I had all the information I needed and didn't need to find specialty PS's for my procedure or anything of that sort. I'll stop short of saying I felt totally discriminated against. I'm not one to usually make waves because it's totally not who I am but this was one of the most horrific visits of my life. Did research and found out about Dr. Hess from a magazine. During my consultation I felt very comfortable, never felt unsure. Had my Lipo in January 2016. Dr. Hess was very honest about what he could or could not do. Procedure was Thursday and I was cooking and cleaning Sunday. I made the decision to get a BA early this year. I just had my procedure last week. The entire experience has been unreal and I'm SO HAPPY I made the decision to go with Dr. Hess. When I started the process, I called around to local offices to chat with the staff and compare prices. Katie from Dr. Hess was so friendly that I decided I wanted to come in and meet with Dr. Hess. Dr. Hess was so knowledgeable about the procedure; it really made me feel like I was in great hands. I cancelled the consultations I made with other Doctors after meeting with Dr. Hess. A few weeks before booking my appt at the surgery center I went in to try on sizers to see what size implants I should get. I had a hard time making up my mind. I went and tried on different sizes twice before I finally made my decision. Everything happened pretty fast and as I'm writing this, I still can't believe I had a BA last week! Dr. Hess always told me most of his patients recover pretty quickly, I didn't really believe him. I even heard a story about someone shopping in the mall right after her surgery! I will have to say I am a total believer of his "Rapid Recovery" method. It was painful after surgery, but the pain meds helped me a lot. The next day I was off of pain killers and moving about. I drove to my post opp appt with him on my own and I went and did some xmas shopping! I'm very very happy with my new look! Even while I was at the surgical center waiting for my surgery, nurses kept on telling me how amazing Dr. Hess was! This is an experience that I will never forget and I cannot say how happy I am that I went with Dr. Hess. *I did not see this in any of the reviews/postings on BA and I wished someone had told me so I could prepare myself. The IV they put in you before surgery HURTS LIKE CRAZY! They put it on the top part of your hand, I was expecting to get it near my elbow like I had when I was preggo. And, beyond that, I am a bit of a hypochondriac and was highly anxious about every little thing during my recovery. Dr. Hess was incredibly comforting, answered my calls no matter the time of day, and could not have been more reassuring. I have never had surgery before and was so concerned about picking the right doctor. I did SO much research and met with multiple doctors. I could not be happier with my selection of Dr. Hess.
