He's easy to talk to, and he advises you step by step what he's going to do for you with the shot. I also received a shot in my shoulder area recently from Garrett, as I injured my back moving a heavy object. I felt better the next day. Dr. Samagh's office manager, Christy, is very efficient and friendly. I am going to miss them all, as I am moving out of town. They are a great group. i had total knee replacement on my right knee with this doctor…read more he is rude and discriminates patients. i was on workman's comp at that time. i was referred to him by my attorney and he was reluctant to accept me. he was dictating to his medical assistant and when he said my age he said in front of my face "old woman". i was 63 years old. i only had the total knee replacement on my right knee. he told me the left knee will be follow whrn the left knee heals. on my third post op appointment with him i asked about total knee replacement on my left knee. when he can schedule the operation. he said me in a loud angry voice " i cannot help you anymore" and he closed my chart in the computer angrily in front of his new medical assistant. on his way out of the room, he glared at me like telling me " get out of here" i cried when he left the room because i was hurt with his attitude towards me. years past after the total lnee replacement on my right knee and i still cannot forget how this doctor discriminated me and his face still haunts me with the glare in his eyes and in an angry loud voice saying " i cannot help you anymore" closing my chart with anger. i was a patient of him in San Diego.

I finally found the best orthopedic doctor in San Diego - It's Doctor Murphy!…read more Staff is great, office is fairly easy to access, and Doctor Murphy is the best of the best. Experienced, thorough, and great bedside manner. Additionally you may notice he is a "MD" not a "DO" like so many of the younger docs in San Diego. I've found that having an "MD" instead of a "DO" makes a big difference. Doctor Murphy is also the right age. He's old enough where he has obviously done thousands of procedures but young enough where you don't have to worry if he is past his prime. Again...I've found so many of the doctors in the San Diego are are just too young and inexperienced. I went in for a second opinion on an Achilles injury. Doctor Murphy was the only doctor to use an ultrasound (the last one did not) and the ultrasound showed not one but TWO small tears in my Achilles tendon. Luckily they were small enough that surgery was not necessary but rehab would be tricky to ensure it did not turn into a full tear (Kevin Durant injury). While the first doctor had also told me I had a partially torn Achilles that would heal on it's own, knowing the exact spots of the tears and the severity of the tears put me at ease and allowed us to better form a recovery plan. We now knew that I HAD to be careful. No guessing. Doctor Murphy made me feel just as important as any of the world class athletes he has as clients and that is important too. In the future if I ever have a more severe injury and require surgery I will only trust Doctor Murphy to do it. 5 stars! Thanks Doctor Murphy and staff!

Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I'm not sure which was more frustrating: waiting over **2 1/2 hours** past my scheduled appointment to be seen, or scheduling a virtual follow-up to review my MRI only to never receive the call. Instead, I received a voicemail summarizing the MRI findings. MRI results can be complex, and I had questions about what they meant, my diagnosis, and the next steps. That's a conversation that should happen directly with a patient--not through a voicemail. I understand that medical offices can run behind and that physicians have demanding schedules. However, patients' time is valuable too, and timely communication is an important part of quality care. I truly hope this experience was an exception because I had heard such wonderful things about this practice, but unfortunately, it left me feeling frustrated and unheard. *While I was waiting 2.5hrs for my appt a lady came in and said "I had to come b/c no one answers the phone...while I don't have an issue w/ the nurse calling or emailing me back, I just have an issue w/ time management...be aware the Ortho Dr only works there VERY LIMITED hours and maybe if I was told that...I would have asked for someone else*

They truly want to help you feel better with surgery being a last resort. They have taken me from a walker/cane to being able to walk unassisted most days. He also figured out which disc was causing my pain. I had previous steroid injections and they didn't hit the spot that needed to be hit. This doc uses the steroid epidurals to help diagnose which disc is causing the pain. That is especially important in those of us who have multiple back issues. I am so grateful to him and his entire team. They always let me know if they're running behind and I totally understand why when I realize all the homework he does before seeing you and making recommendations. When surgery day does arrive, hopefully down the road, I will know I'm in very good hands.

In short, I highly recommend him and his team for anyone facing a situation similar to mine - being told that my lumbar spine was "horrible" and that I needed fusion from L2 to S1. While I still may need such an invasive surgery some day, I am happy that the day is not now - thanks to Dr. Kim. I am 71 years old and have historically engaged in a very active lifestyle. I began having low back pain over 14 years ago, but it resolved on its own after about a year. I was then back to playing golf, hiking fairly long distances, doing heavy yard work, and attending yoga classes. But the pain returned and an MRI revealed severe problems throughout my lumbar spine (severe degenerative disc disease, severe facet disease, severe narrowing of the foramina, and scoliosis). It got to the point that I could not walk two city blocks without stopping to sit down or bend over. Epidural injections did not really help. I consulted a neurosurgeon who performed traditional decompression surgery at four levels (bilateral laminectomies, foramaminotomies, and partial facetectomies). This surgery and the follow up physical therapy helped, but did not get me back to where I wanted to be. Six months after this surgery my neurosurgeon reviewed new x-rays and a new MRI and opined that I needed lumbar fusion. I did not want lumbar fusion and opted to explore other possibilities. I tried acupuncture, but it not work for me. Neither did more epidural injections. Because standing and walking very much increased my pain, I was forced to manage my pain by seriously limiting my activities. I continued to follow up with my neurosurgeon and research other possibilities. Finally, my neurosurgeon suggested that I talk to Dr. Kim for a second opinion. Dr. Kim did not jump at the chance to perform surgery. At first he wanted an updated MRI, as well as all of my medical records. After his initial review he was not sure that he could help me. He then wanted a CT scan. After reviewing that imaging, he decided that he could probably help me with the LESS procedure. Since my pain was focused in my left thigh, he decided to address it by only doing surgery on the left side of my spine at 3 levels. As I mentioned at the outset, I am now 3 months post surgery. I have been through physical therapy and I am back out on the golf course, hiking, and attending yoga classes. I just returned from a two week vacation in Europe. There I walked a lot of cobblestone streets and climbed a lot of stairs. My Apple Watch recorded 12,000 to 14,000 steps on 5 or 6 days and nearly 19,000 steps on another day. All without the kind of pain that I was getting before when I went over 8,000 steps in a day. I could never have pulled that off without Dr. Kim's surgery. When people ask, I now declare the surgery a success. While I am not completely pain free, I am doing 100 percent better than I was doing before the surgery. On the negative side, I had to pay out of pocket for Dr. Kim's surgery fee. While that hurt, the fees for everyone else involved in the surgery was covered by Medicare. I also had to travel to San Diego for the surgery, but I now consider the surgery fee and travel expenses to be money well spent.
