Not only is he a great experienced surgeon that can put a shoulder back together with his eyes shut , but his bedside manner and caring for his patients is beyond what you get with most Dr's . He is just such a sweet guy too. Very humble and cordial. He is upfront, tells you what to expect upfront and actually see you himself for aftercare and check ups. His team is also fantastic. Caring and they keep everyone up to date on whats happening when your person gets out of surgery, what to expect and what to do. Just all around you feel that everyone is in the best hands. Every person that works in Dr Tal David n other MDs are wonderful. My most recent visit was to have cortisone injections in both shoulders n left knee. I saw Julie the P.A. and she has been very professional..kind n extremely good other job. Especially with my injections. Of course the injections hurt a bit( my trick is to have an assistant hold the freeze spray one the place where MD or PA is injecting (during the entire injection time). Im extremely pleased with all MDs I've seen there.. Dr Tal David &Dr Jerrick Robker. I've had hand surgery w/ Dr Robker n it was amazing. I highly recommend this entire office off Serrento Rd. He and his PA's were very clear on the process, expectations, and responding to all my questions, it truly was a great experience considering the circumstances. I just had my surgery for an ACL tear yesterday morning and it was my first time getting surgery. I can not express how this whole journey has been for me and I feel that Dr. Tal David and his team have been so kind, sweet, and understanding about my process. Since it was my first surgery, I was quite nervous but the nurses Zara, Tammy, and Ashley made my experience so much more comforting and relaxing. When I had my first appointment, Dr. David took his time with me and made sure we make the best decisions together for my well being. PA Kyle was very humorous and fun to talk to and helped me set up my plan with them. Matt was amazing as well and took my leg measurements of my customized post-op brace. One year ago I was happily running on the beach in Encinitas when a wave came in closer than expected. I sprinted to get out of the way and hurtled a small boulder. When I came down on my right foot I heard a loud "pop" and felt a tremendous pain in my butt. Turns out I avulsed all three hamstring attachments from my pelvis!! Thankfully I am friends with the former Chargers sports medicine chiropractor so he was my first phone call. He told me, quotation Dr.Tal David is the Best orthopedist!" So I went to Scripps urgent care to have it x-rayed to make sure no bone had dislodged with the attachments. The ER doctor said to me, "I hope you have a good orthopedist, do you?" I told him I had been referred to one but if he knew of one I wanted that referral to. He replied "Dr Tal David is the best in all of San Diego" I can happily report that I am running faster and farther and I'm stronger in every way post surgery. I'm hiking, paddle boarding and doing everything I did before and more. I have also had terrific functional physical therapy and Dr. David recommended a specific one in Encinitas, G3. Went to appointment for sore, swollen left knee (7/12). Saw Dr David's PA, who gave me a cortisone shot and ordered an MRI. The cortisone worked great. I had the MRI two days later (7/14) and got a CD of the imaging. I waited for some form of follow-up a few days after the MRI. By the end of the next week (7/22), I had heard nothing from Dr David'd office, so I called in to make a followup to review the MRI. I was told that an appointment was going to be at least a month out. I decided immediately that was not acceptable for a mid-diagnosis followup visit, so I declined and have now booked with a new, more available ortho doc. Started off good, but the total lack of follow-up care is unacceptable. read more

Well, I just wanted to update my review. Its been about 9 months since I had my Labrum repaired after years of shoulder pain. I had this issue diagnosed by another skilled doctor, but I chose Dr. David to repair it because of a family recommendation. Glad I got it fixed. My left/troubled shoulder almost never hurts anymore. Dr. David did meniscus surgery on my knee in 2017 I guess I'm a bit slow on putting up a review but now you get to see how his work holds up. I was walking with a limp and had atrophy in one leg due to my bad knee before the surgery. After rehab I have sense gotten back to rock climbing and hiking. I probably should've given the good doctor a shout out after climbing Devils Tower in Wyoming. But I got to thinking about him on a 10 day 80 mile backpacking trip in the north rim area of the Grand Canyon. I couldn't remember which knee it was, I have never had any problems with the knees after the surgery at all. And I'm no spring chicken, I will be 68 in May. All and all you can't go wrong having Dr. Tal David doing your surgery. Just go for it! read more

Dr. Tal David gave me my life back - plain and simple. He had operated on my knee about 5 years ago so I knew he was a good surgeon. I am now 2.5 months out from a total knee replacement that he did for me, and walking 4-5 miles without pain. I have always appreciated Dr. David's direct communication style with me. He listens well and responds to what I tell him. I was at the end of my rope with a bone-on-bone knee when he agreed to do a knee replacement for me. And post surgery, my knee scar is, I'm told, one of the best anyone has ever seen. This is a great surgeon who lacks some of the pretension I've seen in others. We were actually referred to this doctor by my sons baseball coach and now my husband, my son and myself have all been patients of Dr. David over the past 5 years for multiple reasons!  I cannot recommend Dr. David and this entire office enough! I TRULY couldn't give this place a higher review if I tried. Dr. David helped me through my second ACL tear 7 years post my first. He is an amazing surgeon with great bedside manner. At the time I felt complete despair knowing I tore my ACL again but I genuinely couldn't have picked a better surgeon, I'd trust him with any surgery ever. I'm 8 months post op and feel amazing. I had ACL reconstruction about 20 years ago and I had not experienced anything more than occasional swelling and some arthritic pain until recently. A few months back the knee swelled up and felt like it was going to give out a couple of times per day, so I figured it was time to get it checked out. Friends recommended Dr. Chao and while reading reviews on him, I came across numerous positive reviews of his colleague, Dr. Tal David, so I decided to give Dr. David a try. My X-rays were inconclusive and Dr. David suggested he drain the knee and give me a shot of cortisone. He said if the swelling and pain returned, it could be indicative of a loose body floating in the knee or a tear. I told him that I thought I had a loose body and would prefer to skip the draining and shot and pursue arthroscopy. He could have laughed at my opinion, but he listened and his staff was able to get me into an MRI facility that evening. The MRI confirmed I had a meniscus tear and 2 loose bodies and Dr. David was able to perform arthroscopy to clean up my knee less than 2 weeks after my initial visit. Dr. David called me in the evening after my procedure (a Friday night) and told me to call him on his cell if I ran into any problems over the weekend. Very impressive. My 13 year old daughter was having knee issues and needed surgery. I researched so many doctors and Dr. David always came up. After visiting a few other doctors, we saw Dr. David. My daughter and I love him! He's super nice and explains everything in a way my daughter can understand. Charles, his assistant is also really nice. Dr. David has done two surgeries for me. He repaired my badly torn Achilles' tendon and then the next year replaced my ACL with my hamstring. He listens to what the patient wants and what your desires are for long term recovery and suggests the best route to take. I went in to see Dr. David back in May of 2015 because I was having quiet a bit of very sporadic pain under my knee cap. It was to the point that I was having issues walking up the steps to my condo and working out; which is a huge part of my life as at the time I was squatting 405# and deadlifting 545#... takes some real work to get there. After some xray and talking, he decided the first course of action would be to get the swelling down and see if it could get controlled. After weeks of that and no success (mostly do to me I imagine), we talked about the next set of options. End result was to go under the knife and do a knee debridement and clean the puppy out... while the most invasive, it fit my long term goals. Two holes in my knee later and some rehab... I was back in business! Well, after the agony oh my hammys and quads freezing up after having my leg wrapped and kept straight for a few days.... seriously painful. If you have alot of muscle mass, getting some muscle relaxers definitely helped HUGE TIME. One other admirable trait of Dr David is he's a pretty straight forward, no BS guy and doesnt hesitate to go into the specifics on any question you ask... which i really appreciate and I imagine most other athletes would as well. Also, I forget the name of his PA that was assisting him... but another extremely knowledgeable and professional guy without a doubt. Being an athletic person, I take finding the right physicians seriously. Some years ago, Dr. David performed knee surgery (meniscus). Dr. David's approach is conservative and surgery is not his first choice. He has great judgement and is a good listener. i would highly recommend him. I am middle aged and play basketball at least 3 times a week. Well, age played its toll and I had a meniscus tear after a particularly strenuous session. I didn't know it was a tear at the time but my knee had a pain I had never experienced before that would feel better after a couple weeks but the pain would reset after one session of basketball. After a couple months of this, I saw a different Orthopedist at a different practice. He just took an xray and said it didn't look like arthritis and suggested physical therapy. Of course this wasn't going to do anything for my tear. Fast forward a couple months and then I saw Dr. Tal David. He had me in for an MRI the same day! Yep, meniscus tear. A couple weeks later he performed a meniscectomy, removing the tear and cleaning it up. I was walking soon after and started 6 weeks of physical therapy. I am now back out on the basketball courts and feeling as good as ever like nothing ever happened! Dr. David and his PA are both excellent and I highly recommended them. read more

His staff is amazing (Charles his PA and Willma his Assistant) from my initial diagnosis appointment to having surgery approved it was less than 30 days. My recovery is going remarkably well and my incisions are very small for the procedure I had. Dr. David is one of San Diego's top Orthopedic Surgeons and I HIGHLY recommend him for any procedure he offfers. Not only is he and his team Excellent but he is a fast surgeon. I give the absolute highest recommendation for Dr. Tal S. David's office. I was referred for my left Knee ACL surgery to Dr. David's office by my Sports MD and several colleagues who worked with Dr. David for their varying injuries . I arrived to Dr. David's office right after meeting with another surgeon in the area prior, and was immediately blown away by the customer service Dr. David's staff offered- especially in comparison to my prior meeting. I barely waited more than 5 minutes to be taken back to my room where I sat and chatted with the PA (Kyle) about my bilateral ACL tears for more than enough time. I didn't feel rushed out of the room, nor did I feel like I was taking up too much of Kyle's time. Kyle was sincere as he sat with me and guided me through the entire process of what my surgical recovery would be like, and gave me his cell phone number to text him should I have any questions. It was right then and there that I knew I wanted to go with Dr. David's office for my ACL/Meniscus repair surgeries. After getting fitted for both my post surgical and recovery knee braces, Kyle left the room to get Dr. David, who came in immediately to chat. Kyle sat in the room with Dr. David and I the entire time and even helped remind me of certain questions that I had wanted to ask the surgeon. Dr. David took his time discussing the different graft options, and after a few minutes of chatting, I knew I could trust Dr. David to operate on me. The next day I got a call from Jazmine in scheduling at Dr. David's office who worked with me on my insurance to obtain authorization so I can get my surgery the very next week. She understood the difficult situation I was in given my high deductible, and Jazmine was such a terrific help through it all. She was extremely knowledgeable and patient, and helped schedule me ASAP for my first surgery. She referred me over to Maribel in the office, who immediately assisted me with my disability paperwork for my employer and for the state disability insurance, which added to another relief that Dr. David's office offers. One week later, I met Dr. David and his OR staff at the Coastal Surgical Center at 6AM for my 730AM knee surgery and was again blown away by the customer service the staff offered. My father (who flew in from NJ to help care of me) and I felt extremely comfortable and well taken care of and I was successfully in and out of the OR within 2 hours. The very next day I received a call on my cell phone from the RN in the OR who wanted to follow up and see how I was feeling and answer any questions I had lingering. My girlfriend took me to my first post surgical appointment with Dr. David 8 days after the surgery, and even she was blown away by the entire office staff's amazing compassion and care. We took two boxes of Donuts from The Donut Bar as a simple thank you for the way office staff took care of me. I am looking forward to a speedy recovery so that Dr. David can operate on my right knee acl tear in the spring and give the highest recommendations to anyone looking for a trustworthy surgeon and staff. read more

I moved to San Diego in January and within 2 weeks I went snowboarding and blew my shoulder out. I had a SLAP tear that required 3 anchors with 3 sutures. Basically, I went with the recommendation that Dr. David was good with shoulders. He wasn't good with shoulders, he was freaking awesome! His office visits are short but he's good at what he does and if you do some studying ahead of time, which you should do anyways, there should be no problems. I just saw him for my final visit and he started to get up after a quick talk but I started asking questions and he very quickly sat back down and got comfortable. Thus, if you have questions he's good and will take the time. I am young, athletic, very knowledgeable about everything so he was quick with me. I must say that I am 5 weeks out of surgery that he initially told me I would be 8 weeks out of the water. I've got my full ROM back and I'm progressing very quickly with my PT. He told me I could get back in the water but be careful. I've also got pictures that I've shown others in the medical field and they were impressed at how good a job he did suturing me up. I highly recommend Dr. Tal David for anything orthopedic. read more

I don't want this review to be too misleading because Dr. David and his assistant were pretty good. I, however, had a horrible experience with his office staff. I have never had such unprofessional medical office staff in my life. I went to his office of Kearny Villa Rd. I have been dealing with a knee injury for a year now and my doctor recommended Dr. David for a consult to try to get more eyes on the problem to figure out what exactly is wrong. I arrived about 15 minutes early because I figured there would be some forms to fill out, which ended up taking close to 30 minutes because of all the forms. They had my entire file and history from my doctor, who works for THE SAME medical group apparently, so I'm still unsure as to why I had to rewrite the information that they already had. I was finally taken back to a room by an office worker who looked more like she was ready to go party than was working in a professional medical environment. I saw his assistant first, who was wonderful. I sadly do not remember his name. He left and finally the doctor came in, over an hour after I arrived at the office. We chatted and he wanted to do a cortisone shot. I agreed. The office door was left open while I waited, which was very odd behavior because every other patient room I have ever been in, they close the door to ensure privacy. Same office worker who put me in the patient room attempted to put other patients in the same room as me, like she forgot it was occupied. The doctor specifically said that he wanted to follow up with me in a few weeks, after I saw my primary doctor, so that he could make an assessment after the shot. I relayed this to another officer work at the checkout desk when my file was dropped off. She was incredibly rude about the whole thing. She had an attitude about being able to schedule me to come back because it was for a consult. I simply stated that is what the doctor requested, and she curtly told me that she wouldn't schedule another appointment for me, that if I wanted to come back I had to followup with my doctor and they would have to get in touch with them and then they would see what they could do. I let it go and left. I started to walk down the hallway and realized I didn't get my parking validated. So I returned and the lady was on the phone. She could see my ticket, so she put a sticker, a stamp, and signed. I figured I was good, until I got to the kiosk to leave and the worker told me I owed $2.00. First office, I'm from the East coast and I find it absurd that medical offices make you pay to park. However, the last few that I have had to go to for my knee injury, they always validate for the full time. Also, who carries cash or check anymore?? Apparently that is all that is accepted - yet there is no where to get cash. So, I re-park and go upstairs to find out what is going on. The party office worker looked at me when I came up to the window so I started talking to her. Apparently she was on the phone, because after I was done explaining the issue she says "I didn't hear anything you said, I'm on the phone." Wow, really. So the lady who validated it said in a very snotty manner that they only validate for the first 30 minutes. Again, wow! I looked at her and explained that I spent my first 30 minutes filling out paper work and didn't even see the doctor until over an hour into the appointment. In what universe do you go to a doctor's office and you are in and out in 30 minutes?? None that I have EVER been in. I was frustrated at this point and I asked if she was kidding me. They have no signage and no indication that they have this policy. One older lady was walking past and said, just give her another ticket. So she scoffs and puts one on the card. I left. I go back down to the kiosk worker and now I owe $4.00 because the whole back & forth bumped me to the next bracket or something. I was beyond livid at this point. The kiosk worker was polite and he let me go. Long story short, I will not be returning, at any point, to this office. I can not believe the rude, unhelpful, unprofessional nature of the staff. Sadly, his staff ruined the whole experience and I find it a telling sign to hire such incompetent people. read more

I was referred to Dr. David for a minor knee injury a few years ago and was very pleased with his demeanor and approach to me as a patient. I am a very active person and he approached my care thinking of me as an athlete, and someone who will play through pain, rather than some textbook version of what a 30something female should be. Given this pleasant experience when I blew out my knee playing soccer I knew exactly where I was going - right back to Dr. David. Turns out I had a fully torn ACL, torn meniscus, cartilage damage, and a sprained MCL. Dr. David was very honest with me about my condition, presented me with my options for surgery and for going forward without surgery. Once I decided to have the surgery he was very open about my choices of what type of graft to use and gave my husband and me all of the pros and cons of each type. I was able to schedule my surgery quickly (2 weeks after my injury and only because I was traveling the week after). The surgery went extremely well, he replaced my ACL, repaired my meniscus and drilled micro fractures to replace the cartilage damage. My recovery has been amazing and Dr. David has been very transparent about why he is clearing me for certain activities at different points in my recovery and more importantly why he is NOT clearing me for other activities. At 6 months out I am now running close to the same speed I was at before my injury, my cycling has improved dramatically, and I'm starting to ease into more dynamic movements required for soccer and hockey (my sports of choice). And best of all - all of this activity is done pretty much pain free. Appointments are very easy to schedule and I have almost always been called back at my appointment time and seen very quickly. read more

A good doctor that needs an updated office. Doctor David was helpful at discussing my condition and reviewed my X-rays on the same visit. Now for his office. I called 5 times after my visit to plan and schedule my surgery and I didn't get my call answered. I didn't even get a call back after leaving 3 messages. I did call and talk to someone in billing that took a message for Wilma. Nope, still no call back. Finally, I get a call after leaving a new message months after my visit with a new person. Wilma tells me that she never received a message and interrupts me several times while I'm trying to explain. Then I go in to pickup my X-rays that she said I could have and pay my bill. Nope! I am told that they own Your X-rays and you can only borrow them. Are you kidding me! Xrays cost me hundreds of dollars! I want them. The only, and I mean only saving grace is that the nice person who took my payment didn't charge me for the late fees and teased me about it. She was nice. .............and then a guy walked in a served them a subpoena! It was probably for a legal matter......probably demanding X-rays! :-/ I suspect Dr. David is as great Surgeon as his reputation, also great bedside manner. My issue is that with this staff, I will probably be crying in pain after surgery trying to call for a prescription and appointment, and Wilma will argue she didn't get my message. :-( P.S. I chose this doctor after reading the reviews on Yelp. My appointment was at noon, I showed up at 11:58 and they called me at noon. I was in the room maybe one minute and they walked in the door. I feel better already! Each and every one of his staff members were complete dolls! Oh yeah, just because he does surgery, doesn't mean he's surgery happy. In 2010 he did my right shoulder, in 2013 he did my left shoulder. I consider him the best shoulder surgeon in Southern California. He will also do surgeries for other doctors and leave follow up treatment to them. You can have full confidence you picked the right doctor and do not have to worry about anything other than your rehab. Great choice. My right shoulder is so much better and as good as new although the rehab took almost a year. He is meticulous. Dr. Tal David is really good. Other doctors will confirm his talents. One of the best! I am currently 2 months post ACL reconstruction with a hamstring graft and feeling pretty great. Dr. David takes the time to listen to my questions and helped me put together a timeline for when I could get back to certain sports and activities, with tennis obviously being the last at a full 9 month recovery. I was in the gym on day 12 (with the new sleeker brace) doing upper body work, and in the pool at 5 weeks doing one leg flip turns. All in effort to get those happy endorphins back that I longed for desperately! And what scars?? Dr. David made such precise incisions, I have no doubt that there will be little evidence of surgery later down the road. I was working with another Dr. during the MRI process and was unimpressed so I started my research. Dr. David and team are your people!! Look no further. read more

In 2015 I fell off of a rock and injured my shoulder. I went to 3 orthopedic specialists and was misdiagnosed by all 3, saying that I had a grade 3 ac separation and that their was nothing that they could do for me. Then I met Dr. Tal S. David. Dr. David took an MRI (which none of the previous 3 surgeons bothered to do), and Dr. David discovered that I don't have a separated shoulder at all, but instead I had a torn labrum. In January 2017, Dr. David did surgery on me doing a bankart repair and fixing the torn labrum. Dr. David put anchors in my shoulder at the 2 o clock, 4 o clock, and 5 o clock positions. It has now been almost one year since my bankart, labrum repair surgery and I am completely healed. I have fantastic range of motion and I am as strong as ever. Thank you Dr. David for fixing me and making me normal again. I would also like to say that Dr. David's physician's assistant Kyle is the best physician's assistant I have every met. Kyle was highly intelligent, friendly, and very helpful. Also the women at the front desk were all competent and courteous. Dr. David and his staff are amazing. He performed surgery on both of my shoulders this past year, and until I went to him, I received a series of misdiagnoses. He was very conservative with his approach, and surgery was only presented as a last resort. Dr. David was incredibly patient with my husband's and my questions, and he presented a confident approach to correcting my problems. I searched for doctor online for carpel tunnel surgery saw this doctor had good reviews so I gave it a shot. The doctor is excellent. He's personable and professional. You can tell that he cares and is thorough in his job. He took time to explain process and was good at answering any questions. The staff is very friendly from the nurses to front desk and the appointment person. Not one single problem. Had surgery on both wrist for carpel tunnel. My right if fully healed and at one hundred percent. It's been four months and its minimal to no scaring. Unless I examin my hand well can't see where it was done. My other hand I got done one month ago and am confident will be just same, it's healing just fine. I would recommend this doctor and would come back if I needed an orthopedic surgeon again. Excellent orthopaedic surgeon. Well respected among the ortho community. Works a lot with athletes. Specializes in knees and shoulders. Pros: -Most health insurance plans accepted (I have UHC) -Friendly and willing to answer questions -For the most part, short wait times (less than 15 minutes) -Has the best interest of the patient as his priority -Very knowledgeable Cons: -I had one appointment where I waited 45+ min. in the waiting area and then another 20 min. in the patient room -I often feel rushed when I see him. Not much face time with him. Dr. David performed microfracture surgery along my trochlear groove (under the kneecap). I had a doctor in LA who couldn't figure out what was wrong. I thought that was the end of my knee but decided to see Dr. David to give it one last chance. He ordered an MRI and immediately discovered the problem. I was missing a chunk of cartilage under my kneecap down to the bone. So, my knee cap was rubbing against my femur (bone on bone). Ouch. Well, I'm 1.5 weeks post op and I experienced very little pain or swelling and I'm at 120 degrees flexion, most would only be at 60. While he was in there, he harvested a small sample of my healthy cartilage to be sent for genzyme growth -- meaning they are going to grow my cartilage in a lab for future injection if the microfracture doesn't work out. Oh. You get a DVD of the entire surgery, too. How cool is that? I have no idea what's going on, but it looks cool. I know this is still early in the rehab program, so I will update this review as my condition improves. I would also like to add that I sought a second opinion on the diagnosis of my knee injury. He not only concurred with Dr. David but also highly recommended him, too. My PT therapist also holds him in very high regard. All I hear are great things about Dr. David, so I'm happy I went with him. read more

Dr. David is an excellent surgeon. I had shoulder surgery 1 wk ago and was barely in any pain. The visits with him are to the point and surgery on time. I recommend him to everybody. read more
