This is a classic barber shop for real! Not a made up one like Floyd's. Chuck has owned the shop on Tennyson since 1968. He greets a lot of the customers by their name (not me yet) The chairs are vintage from the early 1900's he tells me. They cut your hair, shave your neck with a straight blade, put some after shave on that burns like hell, and then massage your shoulders with these old style massagers. Nothing frilly or gay here. Just guys getting a hair cut, reading the sports pages, and mostly sitting silently. You will leave smelling like a man! read more

Alright, so I hate absolutely hate to write this review. So the first time I went to this barbershop, I had the absolute best experience! I have lived in Denver for 8 months now, and have been searching for the best barbershop, so finding this shop was a big deal. Okay, so the first time I had an older oriental man cut my hair. He was very meticulous and took his time to perfect my hair. He was absolutely amazing!!! Hands down. So the second time I come in, I have a different gentleman. I proceed to tell the man how I would like my hair cut, and stressed the fact that I have a huge meeting with the CEO of possibly my future company and need to look quote and quote "perfect." I applaud him for trying to fulfill my request, but when I tried to have him fix my neckline, the owner of the store grew very upset and kicked me out of the store for being "too critical". Here's the thing, I was every bit nice and even paid the barber for his work and even a tip, although I was being kicked out for wanting my hair to look good. The owner was very nasty and made me feel uncomfortable and ashamed for wanting my hair done correctly. I recommend that no one chooses this establishment if they have a certain preference on their hair. Please think before you go and get disappointed like I sadly was. I was going to shop by the name of "Olies", I think I spelled that right and the guy there cuts good hair, but, he's not reliable and charges $20! Then I tried "Floyd's" and that place is all glits and glam and the guy who cut my hair had the nerve to say well I never really learned how to cut hair and that's after he was almost done and ruined my hair! Then after discovering "Chuck's Barber Shop"... I hope they never close the doors to that place, best barber shop around, hands down; freindly, good cuts, fair price, no glits and glam and pretending to be a baber shop like the so called barber shops like floyds, sports clips which are basically great clips on steroids! Do you like to kick it old school? Do you like the beauty in simplicity? If yes, this is your joint for a solid hair cut or shave. This barber shop has been around for over 50 years, and you feel like you walk into a different era going inside. They have pictures on the wall from Elitches when it used to be in the hood. The owner has been cutting hair since it opened in the late '50s, and he is very old school. When I was there last week he told a mom that they wouldn't do lightening bolts in her kid's hair. He was very polite yet firm. They also don't do mohawks, so you have to go elsewhere for such outside the norm stuff. They charge $14 for a cut, and they also give a massage w an electric vibration machine (I am sure there is some technical name for it, but I don't know). They use a razor to cut neck hair which is nice. I always feel good leaving Chuck's. It is so much better than the Fantastic Sams type places, where you are lucky to have a barber who pays attention to details like these guys. I will never go to the chains again if I can avoid it. read more

Chuck's is AWESOME! Very good, chummy, old school-style men's barbershop. It feels like a flashback to the 1950's, in all the best ways. Good basic cuts for only $14 (however, I always tip a few extra bucks), and good conversation by all the guys from the neighborhood. Lee gave me a great haircut, and did an extremely thorough job, way more detail than I would have ever expected. Great value, great place, friendly staff. The old guy was rude to me but I decided to give it a shot anyway since I live in the hood and everyone has a bad day now and then. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. I moved to Sloan's Lake in 2004, went to Chuck's and have been going ever since. I will not go anywhere else. It is like going back in time...seems like early 60's. Love the music, magazine selection, decor and especially the friendly customer service. Chuck understands the 'experience' as opposed to the quick cut & out that most other places follow. I look forward to getting my haircut there. Each barber takes his time and follows the sequence for you. I have traveled the world and there is absolutely nowhere on earth that I would rather get a haircut than Chuck's. Chuck has been cutting hair since 1950 and it shows. He only picks the best guys to work with him and they will leave you feeling like Don Draper for all the best of reasons. Wow. Believe the hype. For the same price of a shoddy Supercuts haircut, you can get a great, classic haircut with a hot neck shave and shoulder/head massage at Chuck's. And when I say "classic," I don't mean old-fashioned, I mean timeless. My haircut was modern and looks great. My wife loves it. It's better than the cut I got at Rooster's, for much less money.
