It started out pretty simple and not very challenging. However, the higher up we climbed the more I got blown around...and not in a "good way" if ya know what I mean! Lol. The trail heading down was very steep, sandy & rocky with not much traction. We had to go down side ways to avoid slipping on our buttocks. Once we were 1/2 way down it was less intense and we weren't concerned about slipping. The views were incredible! Lots of desert plants were flowering. From start to finish it was less than a mile. Plenty of resting spots. I would like to come back when it's not so darn windy...but lately it's always windy in DHS. Oy!

The city of Desert Hot Springs is making a concerted effort to create and maintain great hiking opportunities and Long Canyon Trail is the latest example. My trip out to the trailhead on a weekday offered some interesting sights along the way: two folks engaging in what looked like target practice and another fellow perhaps sampling some natural herbs. If you plan to hike, I'd make sure you go with a group. And don't forget water, sunscreen and a hat. Free parking and no entrance fee.

Overall we really enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend using them. And we paid about $100 per person for a private morning tour. That's pretty good value IMO! The selection of different activities was very low but that was because we booked the busiest time of the season, and only about 3 weeks ahead of time. Booking process was very smooth. The only issue I had was they were unresponsive to any type of communication beforehand. After I booked online, I wrote them and email asking for confirmation, as well as called them and left a voicemail. I received no reply. I almost thought I might have been scammed! Thankfully that wasn't that case.

He took us to beautiful parts of the park that we would never have found on our own. We are in our late sixties and hike regularly. Ethan designed a route that was a good match for our abilities; some elevation gain, walking up and over granite faces and between boulders. He was there to provide help if we needed but was also willing to let us sort out our footing on our own. He regularly checked in to see how we were feeling about the route. As we walked, he gave us a lot of information about the geology, plants and history of the park and answered all of our questions. Our families stayed in the health center, lodge, and electrified cabins, while our friends embraced the adventure of summer cabins and tents. The venue offers so many stunning spaces, from the spacious dining hall for meals to the stage/amphitheater with fire pits--perfect for s'mores and late-night stories. We exchanged vows at the top of a hill near the outdoor pavilion, with a gorgeous backdrop of pine trees and a view of Big Bear Lake in the distance. We were able to offer our guests camp activities like archery and a pool day, as well as had room to setup other activities like craft tables and lawn games. The biggest perk was the complete freedom to choose our own vendors, allowing us to create a truly personalized experience (huge shoutout to Scratch Kitchen for catering--our guests still rave about the food). We spent a year making signs, collecting décor, buying solar lights, and crafting to transform this Girl Scout camp into a full-blown wedding festival. Richard provided great detail while putting it all together in an easy to understand big-picture perspective. He is an amazing man and is so full of knowledge. He gave our girls ample opportunity to ask questions, told them all about the different types of windmills, talked about their impact, and even told them about careers in the industry! We definitely recommend this tour for EVERY troop that is going through the Breathe journey. You won't find a better expert than Ken, anywhere!
