The location has moved since the last time I was here visiting. I really just came in for a library card to attach to my Libby account and the woman at the counter was very nice and helpful. Was surprised at how quick and easy the process turned out to be. Just need a photo ID and proof of address so if you have a California ID that's good enough! I did want to say that their events calendar for the library is really awesome. I saw there was Friday Night Magic and movie nights on there, and that was just some of the programs they offer! There's are tonnnns! PS - The door slams super loud if you just let it close! read more

The new place they moved them is smaller. Appreciate the kids section where kids can play. However this place is very small which makes the noise so loud when someone talk or just the door itself when someone closes it. I wish staff will be more sensitive to their voices too and put signs for other people to keep their tone low. This place feels like a bookstore and not really a library. I hope CV will put an actual library in eastlake where people can just come and read in peace. read more

This is not a particularly large library but it certainly makes do with the space it has available. It has tables for individuals, study groups, and two private rooms for meetings and such. The library contains a good amount to adult and children readers. Available, are DVD movie check outs and a self check out process with proper identification of course. If I remember correctly, they do not open until 11 am and at noon on Sundays. The employees were very nice and helpful during my visit. read more

It's convenient being at the mall nearby the neighborhood! There are a lot of schools in the area so it's great to come and stop by. There are multiple tables with chairs and outlets. Great for studying! Not busy. Quiet for the most part if no children, lol. I saw one large studying room. Plenty of large tall windows so you don't feel disconnected from the outdoors like a dark library would! The only thing: small variety because its a tiny library. The new location is larger and accommodates more people. There are more tables for people to sit and study/read a book. The only thing is that they don't close the front doors so the loud music from the mall is heard inside the library. Kinda takes away the point of being a library and would much rather prefer the smaller location if it meant that I'll be in a significantly more quiet space. read more

Went in to get passport ? UNPROFESSIONAL!! Unprofessional!! Rude , no signs at entrance for public , terrible customer service ! My suggestion is to have a large large sign !! How exciting that a new public library opened in Chula Vista!! NOT!!! If you're looking for a quiet library to study, this is NOT the place for you. I finally got to check this place out today and boy oh boy was I really disappointed. I don't mind too much that the library is located right in the food court. It's probably convenient for parents to casually stop in with their children to read a book or two and grab some lunch. But, if you want to get any studying done here good luck! When I walked in, I noticed that the staff were arranging books and were talking loudly. Plus, I could hear the construction workers outside working on the food court seating area. So, I asked if I could reserve the Group Study Room. As I was studying, I noticed that the walls were really thin. I could hear everything the staff were talking about in the room adjacent to me. I heard conversations about someone named "Michael" and him having an appointment, I also heard them talking about "Claudia" and etc.... about 15 minutes later, I finally couldn't take it anymore and told one of the ladies working at the register to please ask the staff to whisper because I could hear everything. I thought the noise had subsided, but I was wrong!! I even saw one of the staff ladies walk across my room pretending to put a book away just to see who had requested to be quiet. Then, I heard the ladies talking real loudly again and they were even laughing. It was ridiculous how the "librarians" were acting, apparently they've never heard of the concept "SILENCE IS GOLDEN" or "whisper!" I had enough, packed my stuff and asked another lady who the manager was and it was actually the first lady I talked to. I think her name is "Joy". I told her that I was pretty disappointed that the staff were still talking loudly and were even laughing aloud. Joy's response was "Well, it's kind of hard because we're all in one room" Even if there's two or three librarians in ONE room, they could still WHISPER!! Anyways, by the manager's and staffs' response you can definitely tell that they do NOT CARE about their library patrons. Other than my major gripe about the staff, the library overall is a very small convenient library to stop in and browse through a book when you're at the mall. Although, their selection seemed pretty slim since the size of the library is so small. It's about 1/5 the size of Barnes & Noble. There are a few high tables and few regular tables to sit and do homework. But, there are no bathrooms inside the library. Park near the food court and the library will be on your right hand side as you walk toward the food court. read more

This place gives off the facade of a library. Sure, there's shelves full of books, DVD's, and CD's. There's group study rooms. You can even print something out if you need to, because we still need to do that sort of thing in this digital age. But I digress. Parents bring their loud kids in here and folks answer their cell phones in here without even trying to be quiet about it or even stepping outside to take the phone call. Even the librarians don't know how to whisper here. If you're looking to get some intense studying done, this is not the place to do it. You're better off going to one of the other 2 "real" Chula Vista library branches or the library in Bonita. read more

This is an awesome branch until you have to replace a book. I was told to replace a book with the same ISBN- the current book is out of print but there is a newer edition with an ISBN that is one number off. So I bought the newer edition thinking that it would be a good replacement. But again I also thought that I bought the right exact ISBN. Brought the book to the branch and was told that I needed the exact ISBN. I explained to them that if I were to replace it with an exact book it would be a used book and a soft covered one instead of a hard book cover. I asked to see the policy- that's fine but there is no policy regarding out of print books. I asked to talk to the manager but was denied and they closed the office door so I can't see her. The policy simply didn't cover an out or print replacement. In good conscience I wanted to replace the book, I honestly feel that you would think they would want a newer edition. I called San Diego main library and they would rather have a newer edition. So I called another Chula Vista Library and they told me the same and that I can go over there instead to replace the book. Lesson is- don't borrow a book in bad condition because if the cover breaks or falls off- you will be the one to replace the book or pay the fine. I feel the library should have not put the book back for public use. Do the right thing Otay Ranch Library. Seems like the policy needs to be updated. Books do go out of print. read more

I enjoy coming into this library especially to do my homework. Most times it is quiet enough to get reading and work done however it does get noisy when there are a lot of children coming in. Which is understandable since it seems like this library carries a huge collection childrens book. So it just shows that the kids are excited to get their hands on books. The librarians don't enforce quietness so if you really need to focus, I wouldn't recommend this place to study. Another thing I noticed is that majority of the people who come into the library are inquiring about passports. I notice that the librarians do repeat themselves a lot to let them know that they can provide some paperwork however the actual passport process (the picture taking & paperwork process) is done next door at The Hub. I wish there were more tables to study on but regardless, this is a nice library. read more

At first you would think that this is a very nice library located in a luxury eastlake Mall but coming here more often I noticed that the library stuff doesn't really care about maintaining the quietness of the library. I wouldn't recommend this library if you want to focus well, staff itself are the noisiest, very insensitive to other people who just went there to focus and read quitely. read more

Actually drove all the way out to the East Lake library just because a particular book I had been searching for during the past year popped up finally and it was only available at this location. The Worldcat said Coroando and Bonita libraries had the book but neither library could find the book when I went or called them. Pleasant little library that has a feel as though I was inside a Barnes and Nobles. Staff was more than happy to accommodate my assistance since the book I desired was not filed away properly. Luckily, one woman working new exactly where she had seen it last and was able to find it for me. Well worth checking this mini library out if your at the Otay Ranch mall. read more

Passport office only employs complete idiots who have no idea what is needed for a passport application. FYI if you need to get a passport book (not sure for renewal) you HAVE to submit your passport card in the application which I told the stupid lady at the office who then proceeded to tell me explicitly not to do that. I needed that passport expedited because my sister lives out of the country and has ovarian cancer and is having surgery to remove the tumor (information which I told the uneducated incompetent moron who helped me). Do not go here if you need your passport urgently because they are vile and disgusting liars who claim they know what they're doing when they in actuality they have zero brain power and no competence. read more

I think this library is great FOR KIDS. Not adults. It's small, intimate, and kid friendly. It is a bit odd being in a mall, but after visiting it, it really isn't that bad. I like it. I will be coming back with my daughter. read more

The staff were helpful but no staffed checkout desk-they have a small office to the side. They have limited product but can do inter-library transfer so that's convenient, -.5. Lastly, hours are limited, different from mall, including closed all day Sunday. -1 Side note CV library doesn't have a grace period. It's been quite some time since I checked out a book but figured they still did. I was 7 days late on two and owed under $4. read more

I actually didnt come to the library to seat and read but i did walk through it, i was trying to find the location where they do the passports services The name of the building for those services is called " THE HUB" the wait was short we were in and out in less than 20 mins. Of course that being said the husband and I came in prepared here is a list of pointers in case u need to apply for a passport you must bring with you: *proof of citizenship (i.d , drivers make copies of ur i.d card both front and back) *original birth certificate along with 2 sets of copies both front and back. *my advice as i work for costco, do take your passport photo here you will pay $4.80 for 2 sets of 2x2 pictures, you cant go wrong with that price! *the hub accepted personal check or money order ( I believe) They told us the estimated wait time was 6-8 weeks we applied like 2 1/2 weeks ago and we're already getting them delivered Saturday the 9th!!!! I'm reviewing this facility for what it is: a micro or "express" library, if you will. Compared to an expansive, multi-roomed reference center (such as the Coronado Public Library), it does not compare. BUT I find it absolutely fantastic that a suburban mall found the funding and gumption to construct a library in a dying food court. The place is modern and cute with fun swivel chairs and enough books and DVDs to browse. If you don't see what you're looking for, they can "order" it for you from another library and contact you when it's in. If I belonged to a study group, I would reserve the only private room they have available. I wish there were more spaces for people of all ages to gather. Perhaps this library will set the trend for future establishments to provide room for citizens (especially young ones) to convene and (gasp!) read books! read more

I came in yesterday to renew my passport, they were extremely helpful and the process was quick and painless.

This is a cute little library. Has the bare essentials, books, study room, computers, places to read. Don't expect a great big selection. It's a bit far off from where I live so I only drop by when I'm taking a stroll at the mall. Times that I've been there it's usually quiet and people are respectful. There really isn't much else to say. Oh you get 30 minutes in the computer and I believe prints are 10 cents. I used it once for kicks and it took an eternity to get my pages. Ahha read more

Too small to call a library. More like a glorified bookstore. Really great for kids. Has one study room. A couple of desks and plenty of recharge stations. Highly recommended for kids but not your average book reader or studier. What really annoyed me was that some ignorant young person in their Tweens actually said "so what do you do in here, just read books?" What is this world coming to? Or well. The place's heart has it right with its motto of "continue learning" but the sight, setting, size and location do it no justice. Sigh. read more

It is wonderful to have this public library at the mall. It is on the street side corner of the food court. Plenty of parking in the lot. This library is a small one but features their newer/in-demand books. All the staff are very pleasant. On Wednesdays they have Baby Story Time at 11:15AM which is another great way to bring the community together. read more

I am really pleased with the u.s passport services they offer at this library. I made an appointment for Friday January 15th at 11:15a. I arrived 10 minutes before they opened, I was told to go to the back part which is called the hub. They opened at 11am, I was the second person. I was helped out and I was out before 11:15a. It was super quick, very helpful and very nice ladies. My passport arrived February 2nd and it was standard service. read more

I love this little library! It has been so great to have access to free books so close to my house. Yes their in-house selection is small but I take advantage of the inter-library system online and get any book I want from the other Chula Vista branches. I've never had to wait more than two or three days MAX for a book, and that's when I'm requesting popular books. With reserving and then self checkout I can be in and out in less than a minute. I've never found it loud in there but I've never sat and studied for long periods of time. I also love that it's in the mall so you can run other errands when you're picking up/dropping off books. read more

I love the fact that is located at the mall because it gives it a nice community feel. However it is verry small, they don't have enough books, computers, or room to study :-( wich is a bummer. So if your looking to check out a book call first to check out if they have it available. read more

I agree with most other reviews that this isn't the ideal place if you're looking for a wide selection of books or peace and quiet to study...however...the noise doesnt bother me. I came here to get some work done for a graduate school paper so I wouldn't be distracted at home and I enjoyed it. It's right by my house, and while there are a lot of teens and children that can be loud I didn't really mind. I just put my headphones in and went to work. There's enough places to sit and plug in a laptop as long as you're there before 230..since that seems to be when school let's out and it gets busy. If you are looking for a place nearby to get some work done without the distractions of home or having to drive for awhile, I'd suggest this place. It also helps that it's in the mall food court, so if you need to take a break you can easily walk out of the main doors and get some fresh air, walk around, grab some coffee or a snack, and head back. I'll be back since it's so close..but if I ever needed more resources I'd probably head to one of the main branches instead. read more

I usually go this location to just pick up books that ordered from online. Most people are very helpful when i look for some resources or even just check out books. But today I went inside and asked a lady about book club that held weekly for kids but she just told us that all the info was on the paper i held. I looked the paper already but i couldn't find it so i asked the lady who was at the front desk. And she just pointed at the paper like randomly and just said " there '' so i looked at it but the part she pointed at was about father's day event info. So i had to told her that it was about father's day event, which one you are pointed? She clearly didnt want to help me and i felt i am not welcome here at all. She didn't give me enough info that i needed and she is not helpinh so i just left. If you don't have any passion for kids to encourage reading books or helping people at all, she shouldn't be there. I gave two stars instead of one or zero, because if so this comment will go bottom and does not get attention. Next time i go, i will go back to get her name. read more

I had a lot of work to do so I went to this Library. I've known about it for years since I grew up in the area. My laptop is really old and the plug is weird. If you move it more than likely it will turn of my crappy old laptop. "Beware the Security Guard" He walks around fixing things like a librarian. It's fine I get it he is probably bored out of his mind. He came around my table the first time to put back books that weren't mine. I told him those aren't mine then the second time the guy tossed my plug. He did not place or scoot but tossed! so it wasn't taking up some of the table. Yes security man you are bored but why touch my stuff?! As if to send me a message by tossing my plug? He didn't even ask me before grabbing it...Is that not something you'd ask a perfect stranger? So my computer shut off, because its old or has a bad plug which didn't bother me much...It was the tossing my plug that got me. So I asked him about it and he said " oh some other guy might want to sit there." Yup his bored guys or had something against me? I look like a nerd there to do nerd work. In any case you have been WARNED! Library is a library it has books. The views are nice. Can't say I'ma go back any time soon I tend to avoid any hostility if possible. read more

I was standing behind a lady and her two kids at the librarians desk. I subsecuently heard the English accented librarian tell the lady that she had a fine. The lady handed the book back nicely to the librarian and walked away. When it was my turn the librarian seemed a little perturbed. No, she was rude! She answered my question and I sat at the back of the library to read. I kept noticing the librarian walking close to the lady, that didn't pay the fine, and glaring at her. It seemed as if she was targeting the lady and her kids. The librarian finally came up to the her and her kids and told them that they couldn't use the library's services because the fine wasn't paid. Her voice resonated throughout the library because it's so small. I felt uncomfortable for the lady. That situation could have been handled more professionally by the librarian. She was so rude and didn't look like she enjoyed her job! read more

I love that Eastlake finally has a library. Yes, it's a little louder than most library's on say a Tuesday, but thats because so many people are there for the farmers market. Most the times we have gone it's pretty quiet. My 4 year old son loves checking out his own books. He's learning the responsibility of taking care of them and getting them back in good condition. This library is such a treat to have in Otay Ranch. The staff are always welcoming and ask me if I need help finding materials. They are also kind to my elderly dog who, occasionally, accompanies me on visits there. The collection of children's books is vast and includes materials in Spanish. This library is a shiny gem in the brick and mortar retail mall. read more

Cute little library in the Otay Ranch mall's food court. The thing about this library is it's smaller then most, this can be both good and bad. Why it's wonderful? The smaller environment makes go for an intimate reading zone. Bigger then the corner book store, yet smaller then today's corporate bookstores, it fulfills its title as library. Why it's bad? Book selection says it all. Smaller library equals smaller space which, in turn, equals smaller selection. yes, this is the sad cruelty of life and the reason Americans say "bigger is better." The easiest fix for this problem is the public libraries website. Since all the branches in San Diego and Chula Vista seem to be connected by this beautiful creation known as the internet, users can simply log on and order a book to be shipped from one branch to the other. They will hold the book for 2 weeks, I believe, then put it on the shelves for grabs. I recommend the library to anyone, of course, but especially this one. read more

The Otay Ranch library is a wonderful addition to the Eastlake area. We've been without a library since the one on the high school campus closed.I think it is a joke if you go to a mall to study. If you are studying you should probably go somewhere else. The library is small, but the staff were helpful. Even the construction workers are nice :) read more
