Humbert Yeung was extremely rude to my mother when we had stopped by about 2 weeks ago to plan my father's funeral. So, I cannot believe that the other reviews about good service from Humbert Yeung can be real . I hope the management at Chun Fook will read my review and put Humbert Yeung through sensitivity training. Someone in management shoule role play with humbert to make he will be able to respond in a respectful and professional manner. My elderly mother, who was mourning the death of my father may have asked questions of Humbert Yeung more than once. He had on more than one occasion rolled his eyes and said to my mother" I just gave the answer to your daughter". Not to mention, the conversation was muffled because everyone was wearing a mask due to the pandemic. He also responded to my mother in a sarcastic and rude tone, "tell me which funeral home this is, because i would like to give them some business", when my mother asked about storage fees of ashes. She had heard that some funeral home will stores a loved ones ashes for several months. Humbert Yeung has no patience as a salesperson. He should understand that people who come to him are in mourning, and may ask what he thinks are stupid questions. After all, it is not everyday that people go shopping for funeral services, caskets, cremation urns, etc. Humbert needs to learn and practice on how to be patient with the elderly, since they may be hard of hearing. Humbert Yeung may deal with the topic of death everyday, but that is not normal for most people. He should be more sensitive to peoples feelings. At first my mother was willing to overlook Humbert Yeung rudeness towards her, because she wanted my father's service to be in a nice funeral home. I have been to Chun Fook for a few other funerals. Honestly, it is a nicely decorated funeral home- but I refused to give that place my money. They were disrespectful to the living ( my mother and I). Can you imagine the disrespect they would show your loved ones who are not alive? You, the reader of this review may wonder why I didnt yell at Humbert. The answer is that I was not in the mood to curse this guy out in front of my mother. I was not my usual feisty self ( I was in mourning for christs sakes! ) I just wanted to get my mother out of Chun Fook and go elsewhere to finish planning my Dad's service. I was not involved in the financial side of the dealing with Chun Fook Funeral Services so I cannot confirm nor deny any of the issues other people have had with the final bill or charges. However, I can say that their staff and service was extremely professional and well done. Chun Fook Funeral Services did a beautiful job with my grandmother's funeral and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a traditional Chinese funeral. As an ABC who knows nothing about Chinese tradition, the staff was very generous in guiding us through the whole process that was entirely foreign to me and many other members of my family (especially those of us in the younger generation). ' Everything went smoothly, just as planned, there was no awkward moments, and please bear in mind we had no rehearsals beforehand. My entire family felt at ease the whole time and most importantly, we were able to honor my grandmother's memory in the best way possible. It feels odd to review a funeral home, but I wanted to pass along my experience during a very difficult time. We came here after the hospital, it was the most difficult thing to do to have to make arrangements for the burial because it's basically a step towards coming to terms with the death of a loved one. Everything was handled gently, respectfully and expeditiously. Overall, I was very pleased with the service. They were very sympathetic and professional and never pushed anything or tried to sell higher priced options. They just presented all the options and answered questions objectively. They took time to ensure they used the correct Chinese characters to write each family members names, even consulting with Google when my mom said one of the characters wasn't quite right. They're extremely organized, giving you a to do list to collect identification, clothing, etc. For things that are outsourced, e.g. flowers, they handled it seamlessly. Friends and colleagues from far away remarked on how easy it was to order arrangements. The facility is very clean and bright, making it more comfortable for the guests coming to pay their respects. They even offer to bring in coffee and pastries, to help with a long day ahead. The staff is there to explain and walk you through the process. Which is extremely helpful because the last thing on your mind is process when you're in mourning. We were so well taken care of, I would highly recommend this facility and especially our coordinator was David Wong. read more

Before the funeral took place, Jacky was very clear on instructions and made himself available throughout, which is much appreciated during the pandemic. Chun fook held a funeral service for my grandmother and it was beautiful. We felt well taken care of from the service to the burial day. Everyone was exceptionally professional and kind. It made a difficult time much easier because I felt like I was in capable hands. The only thing that was slightly irritating were the incense that may start to burn your eyes after awhile, but there's nothing much you can do about Chinese tradition so that's not their fault. The service at Chun Fook by Jacky was no less than amazing. It really touched my heart to see how much empathy and care he had for me and my family during this time. He did everything he could to make sure the details were perfect and that we didn't feel rushed or pressured. He went above and beyond for our service, always gentle and with a smile, and I am grateful for that. He also helped to make sure we sent our loved one off properly (according to Chinese tradition) since we were mainly unfamiliar. He genuinely cared and it showed. Because of his hard work and dedication to my passed loved one, my family and I were able to spend our time with our family and not worry about anything else. I've been a part of 2 funeral services there for immediate family members in less than a year. Jacky and David have both been very helpful and professional. They lead you along in a process that most people are not familiar with. All in all, I can't really complain about much. The one complaint I do have is the lack of response regarding the online obituary for my mother. When I checked their website for it originally and noticed it was not there, I called them and asked them to put it in. They said no problem and I waited a couple of weeks. Another call, same answer. Another few weeks and no obit and another call, same answer. Three calls and still no result. I gave up. This is strange since there was no problem in getting an obit for my sister. read more

Its hard to lose someone and attempt to quickly put together a nice service is very difficult as their are so many emotions you are dealing with. Chun Fook is the place to go, ask for Jacky. He was so helpful from start to finish. He was extremely accommodating especially since my cousins and I are all ABC, he explained each cultural process with us to give us a proper understanding. He made sure he knew the names of all the immediate family members by first name basis (which was extremely shocking to me). It has been 5 months now that mom passed away. It was our family's first major loss and we were completely clueless about how to go about the process. My mom was very traditional and very religious. She followed all the Cantonese customs to the T. We needed to make this process as perfect as possible to honor a wonderful, loving, and caring mother and human being. Jacky was our coordinator. He made sure that we knew what and when to do things. The right dates, the number of days we had to wait for certain rituals, and other details that we did not think about but had peripherally heard about. He was patient with us, allowing us to bring more and more things that I knew my mom would have liked to have with her. With any passing it is a difficult time so choosing Chun Fook definitely alleviated the process and eased our family per arrangements and logistics. Service was very helpful and considerate from start to finish. From the first call they arrange mortuary and have a step by step procedure that is required for all that is done (ie paperwork, death certificates, etc.) which is very helpful as with any family a event like this is quite sudden and it's helpful to know what has to be done every step of the way. We were never pushed on any purchase and we were shown all options and chose accordingly. The service and practices were offered and we picked from the one that would meet our families wishes. The facilities are immaculate as the upstairs is devoted to christian services and downstairs for more eastern practices. They also offer media services which came in quite handy as we had a photo slideshow. Every step of the way is handled for flower arrangements, refreshments for attendees, and even car service to the cemetery. Attendees can even use choon fook to order flower arrangements and deliveries of flowers day of were all placed nicely during the service. There was always someone at hand to attend to our questions and needs. During this time being communicated and updated is very crucial at putting us at ease and we were updated every step of the way regarding service, burial, and even cemetery stone placement. I arranged for my father's funeral service at Chun Fook in 2013. Having no experience planning a funeral/burial service and still grieving for his passing, I really did not think clearly what all the details meant until years later when I decided to pre-plan (highly recommended) my mother's services that I am able to think back to my "experience" with Chun Fook. First the positives. for someone who requires Chinese /English translation and Buddhist/Taoist service, the funeral home is a perfect setting as the staff are well-versed in Asian tradition/culture/language. The place is clean and they are organized. Given their history, I think knowing the local cemeteries rules and regulations help to coordinate a seamless funeral service. Hence the 2 stars. Now for the unpleasant aspects...all of the their services come at a pretty high price. First the funeral "director"? Lucy, (stopped working there shortly after my father's service) who arranged the service/pricing was very business-like and can be described as a "dragon lady." She really did not care to listen to our stories/details but was there more to sell products/services so she can move on to the next transaction. There was a pricing sheet she used which had all of the services in English/Chinese and price range. She checked almost all of them and continued with a second sheet, not missing anything including guest book, banner, tolls etc. She did not explain the difference between many similar charges even after I asked about them. She somehow convinced me to go with a upper-mid range casket priced at $8000 which at the time I really could not process the value nor the deceit. It was not until years after the funeral service that I learned that funeral homes cannot refuse client's pre-ordered casket (yes, you can order caskets from Costco/Walmart at a fraction of the funeral home price). After what seemed like unpleasant haggling over prices at my very weak moments, she peppered our conversations with requests for "tips" to workers and extra "tips" because it was taking place on a Sunday. I almost walked away from the office at her inconsiderate requests and felt outraged that she/funeral home could ask for more after taking deliberate advantage of our needy situation. In addition, the funeral home wanted all payment by check and certain items in cash only. In my inexperience, I just assumed that all Chinatown funeral homes are the same way--price/payment first and service secondary. This is why I would not plan to have my mother's service in Chun Fok at all if I can help it. read more

This is not something that I will usually be writing a yelp review on but I feel it was necessary due to the incredible service and attention that Chun Fook funeral services has given us. The morning we discovered that our mother had passed we already had been advised by friends that the best funeral home in Flushing would be Chun Fook. We called ahead and spoke with the funeral director David Wong. From the moment we walked in the front door David was attentive and sensitive to our needs. We're grateful as we were American born Chinese in which David was quick to guide us through what a traditional Chinese funeral would be like. With so many things to focus on and on such an emotional field day we were able to get through most of the choices with ease and no pressure of being charged or sold on anything we did not want. We had chosen a few of the services, casket, vault, and flowers quickly.... Well as everyone knows in this business options & choices can be quite costly. After reviewing the initial bill that evening, we had questions & my sisters reminded me that there were other options but I simply did not choose from the offered catalog. I basically have picked featured floor models that were at the funeral home. So basically the next day we returned to Chun Fook and explained that we would like to make some changes and find a more reasonable casket with the same finishes. We just have to say that David answered all the other questions that we had and helped us choose a more reasonable priced caskets with the rights finishes that fit within our needs while giving us the beauty and respect we needed to send my mother off. On the day of the funeral itself we were so impressed with the level of professionalism and the amount of time the staff took to guide all of our family and friends through the traditional aspects of paying respects to my mother. My sister had noted that during this time We were going to have a family member go out and buy coffee and pastries for every one but Chun Fook was quick, they did a headcount and helped us order coffee & chinese- pastries to make sure all the guests were taken care of. In respect to all the Chinese traditions of burning the funeral monies and offering papers it was done beautifully with ease. Chun Fook has a very modern way of handling this tradition because they have a designated area that has its own ventilation system that allows for the family to make these offerings smoke-free. As the evening closed to an end Chun Fook even made our life easier by helping us to find a restaurant for the traditional "white dinner". We had to do nothing more than simply tell David that it was going to happen and he did a headcount and quickly called ahead to the restaurant (within walking distance) and arrange everything behind the scenes. The arrangements on the final day of the funeral once again was flawless. All the cars with respect to family names and the drive to the family plot was well planned. We can't say enough good things about Chun Fook. In the days that past we have received many comments from our friends and family about how wonderful the service was. Mind you the other reviews on yelp are accurate in that Chun Fook can be a bit more the pricier side of the competitors but as another reviewer said "you get what you pay for. ". The service was top-notch with modern facilities and available parking for the family & comped parking for guest at a garage close by. My father died about a month ago. It was the saddest moment of our lives. At Chun Fook, Humbert was assigned to handle our entire funeral from beginning to end. Normally my father had always been the one to handle all the funeral arrangements for our family members, including my mother who passed away in 1993. It was strange to suddenly be thrown into all of this coordination and decision making, especially when you're American-Chinese. There are so many unfamiliar Chinese traditions that are expected from you for the elderly. The list of decisions and choices are endless. The price options are endless. During the saddest and most stressful time in your life, with extreme mourning (not to mention dealing with siblings and others) all of this has to be negotiated and dealt with - so the choice of the funeral home is critical. "Negotiation" is really not the right word though. Through this process there really isn't haggling, and it seems the prices are what they are from Chun Fook. Chun Fook is considered one of the best in the Flushing Chinese community - and warning, they are pricy. The final tab isn't for the faint of heart. Fortunately, Humbert made it as easy as possible and handheld each step of the way. He was professional and smart. After the initial sit down consultation which lasted for about 90 mins, there aren't endless back and forth phone calls leading to the day of the funeral. We didn't have to drown in details. There is a lot of communication done through texting. Mercifully, Humbert never did a "hard sell" on anything. The markup costs are somewhat high. Humbert accommodated practically every single request, even some that occurred at the last moment. Amazingly, I have to applaud the fact that there was a last minute eulogy I decided to give, and Humbert and Chun Fook even provided a translator since I spoke in English. As for the practicalities - nothing can be paid for on a credit card - so much for airline points. It is all done by personal check, and some pivotal costs are only by cash. They also expect cash tips as part of the package and it's placed in a separate envelope. From the beautiful funeral service, to the burial at the cemetery, and the hiring of the black sedans, there's strong coordination in place - Chun Fook took a very impeccable organized approach. Their embalming process gets high marks. I think my father would have been so proud of how it was all handled, and he would have given it a thumbs up. It was done by the book for the Chinese traditions, and the ceremony, including burning of all the paper money, the bowing 3X, the incense, it was perfect. All in all, Chun Fook has now handled both my mother and my father's deaths with compassion and honor. It is done with a lot of grace. They are highly recommended. We explored a few options in the Flushing area at our time of need and we decided to go with Chun Fook. They were able to expedite and arrange services to us in less than a days notice. Humbert and there rest of the staff were professional, empathetic and on point and I can not thank them enough. They were responsive to all our questions and give us a good mix of a Christian service with Eastern traditions. My only gripe would be their high up charge on things that are needed for the funeral, ie flowers, casket. I get it, it's a business at the end of the day but in this day where you can do a search on the internet for anything, there's what I consider a fair markup and a ridiculous one. I guess it's easy to prey on people when they aren't thinking straight, like Chinese restaurants when you're in mourning but that's a whole other review. I wanted to comment on my surprising experience afforded me at my mom's funeral at Chun Fook in Flushing. Mom's passing was so unexpected which threw me into total confusion. Then enters Jackie and Humbert, who guided me through this sad time with the most beautiful, and "happy ritual" that I know made my mom definitely smile. Being more Americanized, Jackie was able to guide and implement the most traditional, yet very relatable funeral service for my non-traditional friends and family. In this unfortunate circumstance, especially during the midst of the holidays, I have to thank Jackie on behalf of my whole entire family. He carried me and made this most sad, difficult time of my life to have gone so unbelievably smooth, beautiful, memorable, and most of all, I know my Mom smiled, was very proud, and appreciated all that was done for her. Zero stars. Horrible experience. Dealing with the loss of a loved one, especially that of a father, is particularly difficult and heart wrenching. The Devils at Chun Fook did not make it any better. From the second I walked in, the "greeters" asked me "What are you doing here and what do you want" The boss lady we spoke with took us downstairs into their dungeon. Do not be swayed by the beautiful exterior. They have the heart of dragons here. Dragon lady's tone was sharp and biting, scoffed at every question we had, and acted as if we were idiots. Well, I'm sorry lady, I don't deal with dead people every day like you do. I don't know the rules and regulations. And I'm sorry, but my heart is broken. I need you to make it easier for, not pay you $5000 to get barked at and treated like sidewalk dog feces. I know, some of the reviews here may be positive because these were funeral "attendees". But I was trying to organize a loving and positive remembrance service for my late father, so that he could be surrounded by the love and warmth of his family and friends. We called Chun Fook and made an appointment to meet a representative Jacky. He is very helpful and patient to guide us what we need to do step by step. Jacky explained to us everything in detailed for all the process. He provided us his professional opinion in all matters. He tried to fulfill with our request. During the pandemic time, it was only limited number of people to attend the funeral service. Chun Fook could provide Zoom online funeral service for all our relatives who could not attend and would be able to join the live funeral service on that day. It was a very nice and private service. Good service, clean facility, and lots of space. It's depressing to be in any funeral home but this one felt different. It didn't feel as morbid compared to other funeral homes I've been to. The lighting is bright, colors are vibrant, and it feels open. It's not like those funeral homes you see in the Soprano's, where as the lights are dim, colors are dark and morbid. I have to agree with the previous reviewer as "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" may not be appropriate for a funeral home, but I had to go hear for a funeral service and I have to say they do a very good job. Very clean facilities and very well organized. They did the whole nine yards following every Chinese custom and conducted the service in English and Chinese. I never had been to a funeral that was so complete following tradition. They have parking and two levels to conduct services. They seem to be a pretty big operation having a location at every Chinatown. Compared to other Chinese funeral parlors they are a little more expensive (not much) but well worth it. They even take orders for flowers if you have no time to go through your florist. They will do a flower arrangement for about $80. I hate to say this, but I wouldn't mind having my send off here when God tells me my card is up. read more

We all woke up two hours earlier so we can all make it in time because with the blizzard and all, driving there would take a while. We called just to make sure it wasn't postponed due to the weather. We had an issue with obtaining an electronic death certificate from my father's primary care physician and Humbert went above and beyond to help us through this stressful situation and walk the doctor through the electronic filing process to ensure that the burial would proceed as planned. He answered all our questions respectfully and in a timely manner and his entire staff at the funeral home and cemetery were professional and respectful. He even asked for a recent photo of my father to ensure that the embalmer/makeup artist made my father look natural and as if he was sleeping and at peace. Humbert was very thoughtful and arranged for a tent to be placed up right before the cemetery service since it started to rain heavily and he didn't want my elderly mother and other family members to get wet. As a member of the deceased family, I am extremely happy with the services provided by this establishment. Not being totally familiar with traditional Chinese practices, my family and I were guided through the entire process from beginning to end. My father unfortunately was put to rest here a few years ago and recently my friends mother, and we felt that they were all pretty fair. We all know these funeral homes are a business and they nickel and dime you for everything. Some may say they take advantage of you financially during your time of grief. Hiwever, they all seem to try and do the right thing. They are professionals in what they do specializing in Chinese traditional funerals. They are well equipped with many rooms if all sizes and all decorated with class. High ceilings and chandeliers. Ample space for flowers and hanging reefs. They speak English, Cantonese and mandarin. They are very well organized in every facet of the event. In their fleet of vehicles, they make the procession easy, and all well organized and planned. While they are certainly not the only funeral home in town, they cater to the Chinese and do it well. They are expensive, but during this time, you just want things to be taken care of and the burden lifted from your family. My grandpa's funeral was held in Chun Fook yesterday morning. My mom had the initial consultation with Mr. Lee, not sure what his English name is. This is her first time arranging a funeral so she was very nervous as she didn't know what to do. She got home told me Mr. Lee was very professional, listed every little detail possible. When my grandpa passed away on the 14th, I went with my mom to Chun Fook to discuss as of how the funeral will go about. Mr. Lee was busy at the time so we were handle by Jacky Yuen. He was very sympathetic toward us, did his very best to accommodate our family's need, written down all the possible costs and told us not to worry too much. So we basically just gave all the informations that he needed and he handled from there. He really made my mom's heart at ease when she was so devastated by the passing of her father. Fast forward to the day of the funeral and burial, everything well very smoothly, Jacky and all of the staffs greeted us with sympathy and compassion. The day before the funeral, Jacky made sure to confirm every detail with me and my mom from the flower delivery to the slideshow of grandpa we made for him. Grandma was also very satisfied with the make up that was done for grandpa. As for a family that's dealing with a such devastating loss, we are very pleased for the services given by Chun Fook. Please be aware that services rendered at this facility is all but a facade. You can't hide behind the decor and ambiance of which all fails in professionalism. All the attendees are in need of comfort and seeks guidance. But all that is provided are of deceit and manipulation. The staff lacks knowledge and the manager himself is full of himself. read more
