I don't want to say it was because I'm African descent, but after he let a white woman come in and also he let an Indian couple come in, but ignored me. I just sat on the floor in front of the temple until the pain subsided. I guess even with monks skin color matters this was very disappointing.

DJM is part of Chung Tai Chan (Zen), which practices meditation, sutra studies, and performing good deeds (though here in Atlanta, Tzu Chi Buddhist Charities is far more active in performing philanthropic work). Beginner and more advanced meditation classes (in English or Chinese) to calm and clear the mind are available, as are Sunday chanting services in Chinese. The building is a conversion of an old church - a true sign of the religious freedoms that Americans enjoy. All activities are free of charge, though donations are appreciated. The UU congregation of Atlanta offers not just a positive, peaceful system of non-credal religious education for children, but also a place where young geeks with a lingering sense of spirituality can find their people. We have Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus, Pagans, Agnostics and Atheists as integral parts of our fellowship. We act together to make a powerful impact in social justice issues in the Atlanta area. UUCA stands out among the UU churches in Atlanta because it has an extremely vibrant (and awesome) group of twenty- and thirty-somethings. We're more than just old hippies! Join with us to become the people the world needs. Edited because I added this to my wedding list: UUCA has an AMAZING event space which you can rent even if you are not a member if it's available. The sanctuary is round and the seating is amphitheater-style. There are skylights in the center of the ceiling. In the hallways around the outside of the sanctuary is an art gallery with rotating exhibitions of local artists and art groups -- when we had our wedding there, it was a fabulous show by the Atlanta Photographers Guild. The social hall is more than large enough for a wedding reception -- we had both a dinner and dancing with a live band, and there is a large patio outside as well as gardens for photos and a playground for the kiddos. The church allows beer and wine to be served on the premises. It's seriously a steal as event spaces go. Far less than 1/4 the price of most event spaces in Atlanta.

We learned about differant cultures and religions and about the world in general. It was a great experience and taught me alot about myself and interacting with others. In addition we had a great time at the UU summer camp the Mountain and always would have fun lock-ins and field trips. I highly recommend attending service here and have been going to UUCA now that I live intown. I like learning about differant religions and deciding what I belive is right, and the atmosphere here is very condusive to this. Whatever your beliefs you will be welcomed!

Bible Challenge for the kids and the Lenten Devotional book each year are really impressive to me, that our small church could never have kept going. But it really still feels like a small church just with this great campus in a great neighborhood. I'm a little nerdy I guess, but there's just been a tremendous number of thoughtful Methodists that have attended and preached at this church. The church has gotten really top clergy talent the years I've been here who have gone on to become bishops or general conference delegates, or were conference leadership or district superintendents. I've loved book club and the Disciple I class (year long Bible study class). I think its been a wonderful place to grow in faith and raise our children in.
