For families it's an emotional process and unfortunately when we are at our most vulnerable, it's important to have someone who can conduct business along side us so you're not taken advantage. Don't let anyone quote the law to you, read it for yourself and know the laws that govern their ethical behaviors, practices and procedures. There's little oversight over funeral directors, it's the "good ole boy" network and some are dishonest, despicable and are no closer to God than the Disciples themselves. Actually, some are straight Judas. Unfortunately, some are not to be trusted so I'm going to share some tips to look out for when planning a funeral. Know that you can buy a casket from Costco or Titan and they can't deny you. Look at the prices compared to what they charge you. A 300% mark-up. Request a line item of charges, they must provide. Funeral Directors have licenses for a period of time and they are renewed by completing educational. In NJ any unethical practices are publish publicly on the following website https://www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/mor/Pages/actions.aspx You want to make sure you research who can bury who, the deceased last will and testament and what spouses can & can't do. It can be very difficult especially when everyone is operating on their own agendas. The Federal Trade Commission has published Funeral Rules. I see a couple of negative reviews on here saying that the staff wasn't professional or no one picked up the phone, other nonsense and I have to say this was NOT my experience at all and we've been going to the funeral home for years with the same funeral director (Tom Roemmelt). The staff is extremely accommodating. For our most recent funeral, our beloved Auntie Ro loved playing the lottery. And we mentioned we wanted to have some sort of floral arrangement that would somehow honor that. Tom says "let me see what I can do." He calls up the florist, explains to them the situation, and a few seconds later he hangs up and looks at me and my wife and says "It's done." And sure enough, the arrangement came out BEAUTIFULLY, and everyone who came to the service loved it. And it provided quite a few smiles on such a dark and sad day. Also our beloved Auntie Ro was 95, and Janitza Soto made her look absolutely wonderful. They dyed her hair *exactly* the way she liked it and did her makeup flawlessly. Rose would have loved it. They took every single instruction and request we gave them and executed it perfectly right down to the pink rosary we gave them to have Auntie Ro was holding in her hands. They never once rushed us. Or pressured us. And they were always at all times professional, courteous and respectful. Tom even gave me his personal cell number to contact him directly no matter what time of day or night. To which, last minute things came up and I had to text him at midnight at he responded IMMEDIATELY. Cannot say enough nice things about this funeral home and staff. We just had my father in laws service here and they were amazing. We couldn't ask for more ! The owners son was outstanding. He made sure we were all taken care of. That young man is going to make a great owner in the future. Very respectful, listened to everything our family asked for. He constantly made sure we were all okay and didn't want for anything. We had last minute things to put together and he would take charge and put together the last minute things for us. This place makes you feel at home with their hospitality ( which is rare these days ). It's already hard burying a family member, but Forever After Funeral home made us feel at ease. Everyone cannot stop saying how beautiful his casket was designed and down to the flower arrangements. Even the driver who drove the limo to the cemetery was the sweetest , we followed behind them and with all this traffic he would call us to make sure we were okay and keeping up with them.
