Samantha Muro-Duvidzon, funeral director at Menorah Chapels, is truly exceptional. She was understanding, patient, and supportive throughout the entire process. I am not sure I would have been able to navigate such a difficult time without her steady guidance from start to finish. My late husband was Jewish, and while I am not, Samantha thoughtfully walked me through each tradition, explaining its meaning and significance. She made it possible for me to make respectful, informed decisions that honored Jewish funeral customs. Throughout, she was honest, compassionate, and never pushed unnecessary or costly additions. I am still haunted by the services provided during my mom's funeral last summer. I was greeted by a businessman who expected to complete payments owed during this acute time of grief. Staff communication needs improvement in hopes of changing processes for future customers. My mom was made up to look like a clown. She was so beautiful without makeup and I never consented to this. So very disappointed. Would not recommend this chapel. read more

It's a weird feeling to give a funeral home 5 starts, but Menorah Chapels in Millburn did a great job.   My mother was a sr. citizen who passed away after a long illness.  Vincent was the funeral director who handled it and he was so organized, even keel & he returned every telephone call when he said he would.   He was highly professional. Menorah Chapels did an excellent job with the added burden of the COVID crisis.   Two years before my mother's passing, we met at Menorah Chapels' office to discuss my mother's final wishes.  This is called pre-planning.  This eliminated all of the stress & family bickering of what were the deceased's funeral wishes.   When my mother passed, I called Menorah Chapels and explained which cemetary the plot is located.  They retrieved the body from the hospital. Prepared it for burial according to Jewish traditions.  They coordinated with the cemetary the opening of the grave site.   There were no surprise charges.    They gave us an itemized bill which matched our estimate from two years ago. I know that pre-planning is awkward.  I highly recommend it.  This is why, at the time of death, there is much emotion and general chaos.  Having a written plan of what to do is really valuable.   Also, if later someone irrelevant to you complains about something; you can just tell them you are following the written instructions of the deceased and to get off your ass so you can mourn in peace! read more

This is a family owned Jewish funeral chapel, not owned by a chain such as Service Corp International. In case you are new to a traditional Jewish funerals, the body is not embalmed or have makeup applied, the casket is closed, the body is dressed in a cotton or linen shroud. A kosher coffin is pine or hard wood, no nails or metal are used, the glue is organic and rather plain. No flowers either. The remains are placed in refrigerators, like those in a morgue. With all that you'd think Jewish funerals would be less than more expensive than more involved ones, but they are not. And the coffins, while marked up, are not the profitable area, it's the fees for everything else. Plus the cemetary charges add up too. You now are prepared. That being said - the concern, professionalism and caring by Menorah was exemplary. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They were flexible, listened carefully and were most helpful. And it is good to keep supporting local, family owned businesses. read more

Our family and friends have been using Menorah Chapels At Millburn for +30 years. So when my dad passed, it was natural to call upon them once again. Unfortunately, they let us down. Upon entering the morning of the service, I was never greeted. The staff was standing in the hall, but never acknowledged me. I had to ask who was overseeing the service. They were very clear, they had another service and we had until that time. After the service a few family and friends were saying their good buys when the director came up to them telling them to go to their cars. We still at 15 minutes remaining of our allotted time in their building. I was embarrassed to say the least. We recently had a death in the family and went to a different funeral home, with a 100% difference in services. Will NEVER go back to Menorah! read more

I'm in the unique position of doing auxiliary work for this chapel, work which gives me the extended chance to see how they really are when the public's not around. All funeral homes are good with the families of the deceased, but these folks are just as professional and patient with one another and even with contractors like me. They're the same in private as in public - warm and caring. No yelling. Bottom line: Not phony. I've dealt with over 20 funeral homes, and this is the one I'd recommend most for its sincere vibe. Even the place is furnished unpretentiously, just like management and staff are. read more

If I could give Anthony and Menorah Chapels 6 stars I would. He was incredible in dealing with a long-distance burial of my grandfather. Not only was he compassionate and helpful in making this an efficient and comforting process, but he also went above and beyond to communicate with the cemetery when there was a dispute over my grandfather's burial plot. He told us not to worry and worked extra hours with the cemetery to ensure my grandfather could be buried next to my grandmother as planned. We are so grateful for his presence during this difficult time in our life and can be at peace knowing our grandfather was in his care. While I hope not to have to use his services again in the future, he would be the first person I would call if I needed funeral services. So impressed with the professionalism and demeanor in which this chapel conducts their business. read more

I, the daughter of the deceased did not have a similar experience to a previous review. Though they were efficient, I had to pay upfront without an itemized bill. Even though I requested a closed casket, I was charged $900 for make up! They also inflated other costs. Additionally, when we went to the cemetery we waited for over a 1/2 hour and the funeral home people did nothing. Many people were from out of town, some actually flew in for my father's funeral, all were getting impatient, especially my mother who was 91. I finally got out of the car, went into the office and spoke up. We were on our way in less than 5 minutes. read more

Unfortunately I have had to use them for three separate funerals in recent years--my wife, my mother and my father. They are extremely professional, caring and efficient. They do what they promise, and they make a difficult time more tolerable. I wish I didn't have so much experience with them, but these are the people you want to deal with in your time of grief and sorrow. read more
