I don't understand why they can't just have another instructor teach the dance classes. Don't they want our business? I'm very disappointed because I wanted to learn ballroom dancing.

Click on "faculty and staff." You'll see nobody listed because practically all their staff have quit. It's a toxic environment where the directors and teachers treat dancers with disdain. They make comments on what the young girls are eating (that's a major red flag at a dance studio). It's a very sad decline. They used to put on a production of the Nutcracker at the Alex Theater in Glendale. It was glorious. That was before Covid. Now they put on a small family only production in a little theater in Northridge. They used to have many dancers winning competitions. Now they barely have anyone even qualified to enter competitions. It's a very sad state of affairs with many dancers going to much better, growing dance studios in the area. I'd be surprised if LABA is still operating later this year. So sad to see it fall from grace. I guess all good things come to an end.

She choreographed a beautiful first dance for us in a very short amount of time. We started with a package of 3 lessons, and ended up adding a couple more at the end because, well, we were pretty terrible lol, but it all worked out. The studio is open pretty late (until like 9pm or later) and there's plenty of parking in front and in back. The only thing I didn't like is that you share the studio space with others, or sometimes a class, so you have to share the music and sometimes have to maneuver around people, which can throw you off a little.

I checked out the website and for $20 it was worth trying out. Artbox Studio is the most picturesque dance studio that I've ever seen. Owner Crystal Duran is an absolute doll! She's been dancing since she was 8 years old, which explains why she is so graceful and elegant on the dance floor. Crystal's energy and enthusiasm made it easy & enjoyable to learn the moves even for a novice like me. She provided step by step instructions and broke down the fundamentals. We practiced each part before combing the moves together. Once we learned the routine we took turns dancing with different partners, which was also fun. Reminded me of speed dating. LOL! I struggled a bit at first but towards the end it got easier. Crystal is a fantastic teacher. In addition to Salsa, you can also learn Bachata, Samba, Hip-hop, Ball Room, Dance Fitness, & Belly Dancing - ranging from beginning to advance. She also offers classes for kids. Prices are $20 for a single session, or you can get a package deal of 10 for $180. If you want to learn how to dance or brush up on your technique - Artbox is the place! I have been to several classes here but have only taken pole choreo classes, so I'm not sure how the pole tricks classes are. All of the teachers I've taken from here have been wonderful and they do an amazing job of breaking down all of the moves and teaching any tricks that are incorporated into the dance. I have learned how to create more fluidity in my dances here. The space is on the smaller side as there is only one studio inside, but the poles are spaced far enough apart that you don't feel claustrophobic in a full class. The lobby is also great and comfortable to wait in and they sell some apparel and shoes there. Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming here, from the students to the teachers.

So, I enrolled my daughter in two lessons per week. Instead of learning proper foundations or techniques, she would spend the first hour doing conditioning exercises, and during the second hour, the theater program kids would join the class. That second hour was mainly used to rehearse choreography for their theater productions. Your child would receive even less attention, especially during the weeks leading up to the opening of a show. I honestly felt scammed. On top of that, the main roles in their theater productions seem to be dominated by the theater director's siblings. In case you don't know, when auditioning for a theater company, the casting directors usually want to hear you sing first, once you pass the singing audition, they want to see how well you can dance and then evaluate your acting last. But that didn't seem to be the case with their theater program. This is why their theater program is not growing! The heart of musical theather is singing. At $400 per month and four months to complete the production, you can find a much more affordable and better production, and most importantly, a FAIR opportunity for every child. I took my daughter out of this school and enrolled her in a different one. I was surprised by how different the approach was at the new school compared to The Grand Academy of Ballet.
