Dal Toscano's history dates back to 1938 founded and still operated by the Bruni Family. This traditional Tuscan cuisine restaurant is super popular amongst locals and is well situated in the Prati Neighborhood in Rome and a stone throw from the Vatican. While dining there, 99% customers there are locals and the staff pretty much only spoke Italian. I am suspecting that is also why so many tourists wrote negative reviews because of communication difficulties. And yes there is a little bit of pretentiousness since it's a white table cloth experience geared up towards the working executives in the area. As for the foods they are best explained as "heavenly" as the bistecca and the pastas are really darn good. Despite the sanitary scare we will definitely be returning when we are back in Rome.

The service can be slow since there is only one waitress, however, the genuine experience, food and atmosphere is fantastic. There is no wine list, no specials written. The chef is amazing guy, perhaps 80 years old and shows how passionate he is about his restaurant and folks enjoying his cooking. The day we were there, one of the specials was tagliatelle with fresh truffles. The chef actually comes out after the waitress brings out the food and grinds the truffle over your plate. He looked so proud and happy while doing it too. The antipasto was the best one we had (hands down) and their pasta bolognese was so good that we ordered the gnocchi as well.
