Cigars By Chivas is one cool place. It's classy and laid back all at once with lots of regulars who enjoy hanging out and enjoying a nice cigar here. Possible the best Cigar place in San Gabriel Valley. We popped in after dinner one night for our friend Troy's birthday. All being cigar enthusiasts. They have a nice humidor and great customer service. My only real issue is they're much pricery than any other cigar shops or cigar bars I've been too all over Greater Los Angeles. I'm all for supporting a small biz but it does make me want to limit what I purchase here. I did guy with more than a couple my first trip in. The selection is solid. I agree that the atmosphere is generally a good one as I've walked by many times over the years and seen it change a lot. They do have a private room for members and a spacious lounge area in the main area of the store. It's in a cool location, directly across from the Bucca di Beppo of Pasadena in Old Town/Old Pasadena, at the corner of De Lacey Avenue/Green Street. Parking on the street or nearby garages and lots, all paid, but a short stroll from Memorial Park Station. They do host some events here and have soft drinks for purchase as well as bottles of water. I highly recommend Chivas! Aura Parra, of Davidoff Torcedores, is one of eight official Master Rollers on the planet. Cigars by Chivas hosted a Davidoff event where she hand rolled, pressed and stamped 300 Cigars that you could purchase. The limited edition smoke was the Robusto Real Especial 7 which was hands down a 10/10 perfect cigar. That event made this particular cigar #1 of my top ten cigar moments. read more

I am head over heels for this place! I brought a large group last night. None of us had been there and I was the only cigar vet amongst us. So after carefully selecting cigars for each friend, I grabbed a '64 Padron for myself. I ordered a delicious espresso for me and my partner, then sat down and enjoyed the company of my guests in one of their comfortable leather chairs. Sadly, the Padron I selected had a rough draw (a first for that smoke) and disappointing considering its hefty price tag, but the unparalleled service from our host, Jack, more than made up for my concerns. After a failed attempt to save the cigar, Jack gave me a new stick free of charge and discarded the offending Padron. The new stick smoked like a dream and made my night in spades! I have Jack to thank for that -- I'll also add he was well dressed in black suit and striking red tie. Overall, his presence (and excellent personality) enhanced the experience tenfold. I highly recommend Cigars by Chivas, and I hope for your sake Jack is working there when you visit! read more

This cigar establishment is very special to me... Cigars By Chivas is the very first place I ever had a cigar. All the way back in 1999, I came here with college classmates to try out a cigar. Back then, Anto (the owner) was very gracious and warm. I remember very clearly because I was so self conscious and trying hard to not be an idiot. Also, I was barely getting by on an entry level corporate finance job, so I couldn't afford any exceptional cigar. Even so, Anto recommended a light cigar. I don't remember what it was. He lit me and friends up. And that was it... My very first night out for a cigar at a real cigar place. Yesterday, I had a chance to meet up with friends of mine here at Cigars By Chivas. They live in Orange County, but specifically came up to look at some special cigars that Anto has. My buddies are serious cigar aficionados, and spent a good chunk of money on a few bags of cigars. Turns out I have a picture of me with my friends at Cigars By Chivas from 1999. By coincidence, I had recently scanned the photo and have it on my iPhone. So yesterday I showed it to Anto. It was a great moment, as he got a kick out of the photo. He recognized his shop set up in my photo, and really enjoyed seeing it. He said that not many things surprise him, but that he did get surprised seeing my picture. One thing for everyone to know is that Anto is a special person in the cigar world. He has the memorabilia, photos with so many celebrities (including major figures in Cuba), and autographed messages to back it all up. Plus, his personal cigar collection is shockingly amazing. I don't usually leave bad reviews. But this place needs a bit of help. The service was subpar. Somebody wanted a cup of water from the side water standing machine that had plastic cups and he was told he had to buy bottles of water. My Padron kept falling apart. I was only offered matches not lighters to light the cigar. I asked about a different Nicaraguan cigar and the person who worked there said he was new and hadn't had the time to smoke any cigars and that mainly in Spain (where he's from) they smoke Cubans exclusively. It was warm. No ac running. Just open windows. Just an odd vibe and expensive cigars. Needless to say I won't be returning. Thank goodness I was alone. I would've been embarrassed to bring friends here. Maybe you'll have a better experience. This spot has potential. read more

The person working was incredibly knowledgeable and was well-dressed and well-mannered in a way that made me feel like I was thrown back into the 60s--he was calm, polite, and addressed us as "sirs" and "mams". They have a great selection of cigars and it felt really comfortable to be there and relax. Visited for the first time. The humidor is smaller than a walk in closet with limited and garbage selection. It also felt like it may be way over humidified. I honestly felt that they thought we were suckers and new with cigars because they charged me around $25 for an avo caribe and $33 for an oliva melanio Maduro. When I asked if the price was correct, the old employee tells me, "I don't f##kin know, man I just f##kin work here.. f##k man I don't know.. lemme check.. f##k man you don't need to give me a hard time.". I literally didn't say anything besides ask if those prices were correct. So I overpaid for the sticks since we were there anyway and not planning on coming back, then asked if they sell anything to drink like a coca cola or something. They had nothing but cheap bottled water. When I asked about beverages, the same miserable douche old head said, "idk man we have some waters, I don't know why the f##k we don't have cokes or something." This place is TRASH. Would give minus stars if I could. The owner Anto should be hauled away to jail. When you read my review you will see why. I was dining at a restaurant relatively close to his business when my dinner ended and my party left. I was the last to leave from my party as I was wrapping things up with my one year old baby since I had breastfed her. She was sick and had a fever. To my surprise she started having seizures in the restaurant, something that I had never experienced before. I had to make a decision as to what to do. I looked around and there was only one party remaining in the restaurant and no waiters nearby. I walked over to them to ask them to call 911. They seemed pretty helpful as a lady in their party obliged and a gentleman in the party helped me put ice on her forehead from his table. Anto was part of this party. I was sitting on the bench next to Anto as my one year old baby was having a seizure and we were desperately putting ice on her as 911 was en route. Even the waiter brought over more ice. Just at this moment Anto ordered the waiter in an audible voice clear across the room, "Get her away from me!" Stunned as to who he could be talking about I apologized and moved clear across the room to which he replied, "It's ok." In addition to this, a prior client of his told me that when someone tipped his young employee or son at Cigars by Chivas, Anto demanded that the boy hand over the tip to him. Really, Cigars by Anto (the owner). He runs a fine establishment and can often be seen in his chair next to the door of the cigars. He is very knowledgeable of cigars and gives advice on all facets of cigar smoking. From cigars, to humidors, to beverage and food pairings. as many successful business owners do. He does what he does well. The cigar shop is small and located on a busy corner of Green St in Old Town Pasadena, so there is still a a lot to see. The business is opened, so the ventilation is natural which is helpful. It is definitely an old school cigar bar with the air still having that aroma of cigars burning slowly. It is an acquired smell and many love it or hate it. But, you ARE in a cigar shop so you should expect that. CBC is accommodating, and relaxing. I recommend it for any aficionado and for any lay person trying to learn cigars it is a great place. The service is courteous, patient, and informative. The right combination for smokers. With markups topping 100% over MSRP on nearly everything, poor storage conditions, poor customer service, and a generally douchy attitude, I would avoid this store at all costs! Everything I saw was at least 100% over MSRP, and while that's not wholly unusual for a top end cigar lounge, this is anything but. Many of their cigars were moldy, or otherwise damaged, and upon informing them, they told me it was "plume" and treated like an idiot which both it and i most certainly am not (I'll upload a picture). Seating is only provided to those who buy something over $10, which isn't hard given the inflated prices, but if you're with a friend who's not in the mood, your friend will have to stand - seriously. I would especially avoid this if you're male and under the age of 40 - I spent 10 minutes perusing their humidor at which time the manager started asking why i was taking so long, and pretty much accused me of trying to rob them - where as an older gentleman was LITERALLY tossing cigars 4-5 feet across their walk in humidor back into their cigar boxes as he found something he was more interested in. Since when was someone damaging your stock less of an issue than someone respecting it? I would avoid this place like it was a rapist with AIDs and your name at the top if it's list. read more

I bought cigars here one time out of a whim when my friend proposed to his GF at that time...No real problems. My problem comes the next time I park in front of his store...Who knows i can be a possible client or not? The owner has the Audacity to tell me that the METERED SPOT in front of his store is reserved. I looked at him and said for "who?" He tells me for his client...BTW this was one of the days it was free parking on the meters (holiday)....Anyhow, who is to say I wasn't going to go there? He lost my business for any future purchases from his store after that...I kindly reminded him that it was a public space and that he has no right to reserve the spot. After dinner, Sean Connery, Andy Garcia, and Kevin Costner occupied the plush leather seats around me. We were celebrating the recent heist of illegal alcohol, relaxing with a Montecristo #2. The press had already labelled us "The Untouchables", but we didn't let it get to our heads, or someday we'll find ourselves six feet under. I adjusted my concealed shotgun so I can have a better seat at the couch. Poof! I smell the smoke, wake up, and see cousin Bobby, brother in law Doug, and the shop owner Anto occupying the seats where the aforementioned Untouchables once sat at. The players are different (except Anto, who has a striking resemblance to Connery), but the atmosphere and scent are the same. Cigars by Chivas is the best cigar shop and lounge I have ever been to; I just wish it were closer to home. Anto treats all of his customers like long lost friends, and takes time to sit down with them (and if you're lucky enough, have access to the Untouchables room) and make them feel at home. His knowledge of cigars comes from another universe and is readily avaliable to share it with you. Cigars are truly a "tool of relaxation", as evident by the looks on everyone's faces at the lounge.
