If you use their customer service to find urgent care, you'll end up with more symptoms. I asked for an urgent care in my area that's open and "Jay" (which I suspect was short for Jaiharvdhan) got me a list of facilities, sent them to my email, which required me to log on to view. When I finally got the list, full of one-star reviews, all the numbers I called went straight to voicemail or hung up before they even rung. Giving up I went in person to find out they closed an hour early, and I was surprised there wasn't a handwritten "shake machine broken" sign on the door. Got Cigna back on the phone and insisted on getting someone who is open with a phone number with all seven digits. He sent us to another place we found out in person was pediactric only. I asked my wife to get on her knees to look shorter, but she said no. We decided it was just easier to die. read more

Absolute trash. Repeatedly sent reimbursements for out of network claims to the provider instead of me, even though claims were filed correctly indicating me as the recipient. Reimbursements also include fraudulent "negotiated discounts" that were never negotiated. Hours and hours on the phone to try and fix every time and it keeps happening. Once again Cigna has proven they are the worst insurance available. I wanted to give them a zero rating but the lowest I could go was a "1" so that is what I am giving them. I was in therapy and the company my therapist contracted through ran my benefits in January and learned that I didn't owe a deductible or anything out of pocket. I started counseling and a month in I had a $100 charge for a diagnostic evaluation. I wasn't happy that no one told me beforehand, but I paid it. Then the therapy company told me that Cigna emailed them and told the company that the sessions were being applied to my deductible (which Cigna never told my therapy provider about when my benefits were run in January) and I owed $98 for my last session. I had to give up seeing my therapist, who was actually helping me. Today I was told that I now owe for every session I had since January which has drained my benefits card. I understand that I will have deductible and out of pocket costs but let me know before I start treatment. Cigna's dollar-store reps failed to notify the therapy company about this. I personally think the reps are poorly trained and cannot submit proper information to the providers. I know some Cigna rep will chime in to this review and restate their policy (like I said dollar store reps, and everyone know how much quality goes products from dollar stores) and not be helpful in any way, shape or form, so whatever rep reads this don't bother. You are not going to tell me anything I don't already know, nor provide me a solution to my problem. If anyone is looking for insurance don't get Cigna!!! It would be better if that person remained uninsured than go with an insurance company with low-quality and poorly trained reps. read more

They make everything as difficult as possible, from approvals to claims to basic communication. They delay care, deny coverage for medically necessary procedures, and seem to do everything in their power to avoid paying for the services they're supposed to cover. Trying to get a straight answer from anyone is a nightmare--you'll spend hours on hold, be transferred around endlessly, and still end up without help. Cigna is an incredibly immoral company that denies claims for essential coverage. They just denied a claim for a corrective foot surgery that my mom needs to properly walk again. She's been unable to walk longer than short distances for about 5 years without severe pain and this would have finally fixed that, but Cigna denied her claim. And it turns out she's not the only one. I've attached a photo of other similar stories, even a cancer patient being denied coverage, all in the past week, and just on Instagram. Horrible Experience After 30+ Years with Cigna I've been a loyal Cigna policyholder since 1993, originally through my employer. After retiring, I chose to continue with Cigna independently because I believed they were a trusted name in healthcare. Unfortunately, that trust has completely eroded after this most recent experience. They now have more red tape than the federal government. This wasn't my first bad experience with Cigna's customer service. About two years ago, they sent me a letter saying my plan was being eliminated and I needed to select a new one. It was a nightmare trying to find a licensed agent in Hawaii. They promised to fix the issue--but never did. Then in May, I received a notice that my premium would increase by over 50% starting in August. I made six calls on May 26, 27, and 28, trying to change my policy. After lengthy verification each time, I was told the agent wasn't licensed in Hawaii and someone would call me in 24-48 hours. No one ever called. The following week, I called three more times, only to go through the same cycle. The verification questions became downright absurd--asking whether I live in a house or condo, or whether my number is a mobile or landline. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, one rep hung up on me. When I finally got a supervisor on the line, she transferred me to the dental department and promised a callback on Friday, June 6th. I did get a call--from Kimberly Bane, who said she was with Cigna and would resolve everything. We spent four hours on the phone, and nothing got done. She said everything would be taken care of on Monday. She didn't call Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Absolutely nothing was fixed. Kimberly insisted I cancel my existing policy and start a new one. I did, but the process was chaotic. They required my wife's verbal permission repeatedly, even for the most minor changes--it became a complete hassle. Eventually, we canceled the plan altogether and requested a refund. We were told it would be processed within 10 days. It has now been 18 days, and still no refund. We finally went with Hawaii Dental Service, and within five minutes, my wife was covered. All it took was a single call and a simple release. Cigna is disorganized, unprofessional, and not equipped to serve Hawaii residents. After 30+ years, I'm done with them. Save your money and your sanity--go with Hawaii Dental Service or another local provider. They understand local needs and actually know how to deliver service. read more

Cigna Dental is the worst ever. My company Marta has elected to use them but I wish they had not. Cigna Dental lied several times it took them two months to get an authorization for approval to do a bridge in my mouth. They never let u speak to an actual supervisor, they put u on hold for long periods of times only to come back to the line and say a supervisor isn't available. Or they will come back and repeat the exact same thing over and over and u can't get anyone that speaks fluent English. I hate the company Cigna Dental and wish my company had no dealings with them. Medicare review Buyer BEWARE CIGNA NO WAY I have spent endless hours researching Medicare options. We selected CIGNA for many family members. One option which is extremely important Doctors and Hospital in network. One also needs to review Over the Counter program OTC. This is a given quarterly allowance which may or may not roll over each quarter. Important to know. Also review the quality of products offered some items cheap and generic so going to Walgreens is a great option vs on line purchasing. CIGNA allowed you to use a card and shop at Walgreens or CVS which was convenient and good selection of OTC products. Using the CIGNA website is very annoying. Very difficult for Seniors to navigate. CIGNA has a program where you do wellness checks and are awarded dollars for completing checkups, scans, medical appointments. Reward varies from $10.00 to $25.00. These rewards go on a Visa card which I was told did NOT expire. OTC benefits will expire. We completed our appointments in early October filled out lengthy reports on line and mailed them in to CIGNA. Apparently, CIGNA has 90 days to respond. BEWARE end of year we filled in early October and rewards were processed by CIGNA December 18th - 26th.. One CAN NOT get information on processed claims. We had over $200.00 in claim rewards. I called the number on the Visa card several times no answer. After spending many hours tracking down benefits I learned my claims of October were not processed since I left CIGNA end of December. Since I was not a member in January even though it took 90 days to process, I would not receive my rewards. I again have spent endless hours being transfer and filled a grievance complaint to request my rewards which were conveniently filed by December 26th. I have been put on hold, refused my request to speak with grievance manager N. Vaughan and told sorry nothing we can do. I am still waiting for contact Lens refund from October after 4 filings. We had to leave CIGNA due to Northwestern, Illinois not accepting the insurance and difficulties in getting paid by CIGNA. There are many companies to choose from CIGNA is no longer our choice and will remove all family members as soon as enrollment is available. Cigna's a messed up insurance company that's being sued left and right for not paying out legitimate claims, especially during the pandemic. The federal law requires them to pay for at home COVID tests. I've filed for reimbursement for the test that is FDA approved over a month ago, and they have not approved reimbursement, instead asking for X-Ray, MRIs, dietary records, pathology reports, pre-post operative reports, etc FOR A COVID AT HOME TEST! Obviously none of that exists. Their third world, outsourced phone agents have NO clue of what they're doing, at all, have no access to information beyond what you already have on the internet, CONSTANTLY make things up, CONSTANTLY hang up on customers, and have no way to do anything at all. Not even forward to supervisors. On dental claims, they simply deny claims without any real reason given. For a dental implant you need an implant, an abutment to screw into it, and a crown to place on top of the abutment. They covered the implant and the crown, but denied the abutment as "not medically necessary". The dentist is beyond himself as it's absolute nonsense. So I've called 5 times and been given 5 DIFFERENT reasons for the denial, but ALL 5 were absolute bullshit, completely made up by the agents online, and all 5 contradicted each other. My dentist has called twice and has had the exact same result. In short, CIGNA will deny most claims, give you no honest reason for the denial, and most importantly, no recourse except the legal system - lawsuits. read more

I need a 4 wheel rollator/walker to help me get around because I have arthritis in both knees. I called Cigna to make sure I was covered and they told me I was. Cigna also informed me they have a "middleman" "roadblock" called CARECENTRIX who would handle the coordination of getting my 4 wheel rollator. I had my doctor write a prescription for a bariatric rollator. I didn't have a model in mind but I figured I would get something decent. CARECENTRIX had Apria Medical locate a 30 pound, heavy, bulky rollator for me. One I couldn't possibly lift to put in my car trunk. I told Apria I didn't want the bulky rollator and they cancelled the order. Before I hung up with Apria they told me if I didn't want something so heavy and cumbersome that I would need to be specific, go on line, locate the rollator I wanted and have my doctor write a revised prescription. I called Cigna AND CARECENTRIX and they both confirmed I needed to have my doctor put a specific model, part number on the revised prescription. All of the above started in may 2018 On August 10, 2018, I was notified By Cigna/CARECENTRIX that my 4 wheel rollator was denied and sent me a denial letter. I am fighting this and wrote a long letter to appeal their decision. It was Cigna/Carecentr/Apria who told me to select a specific model number, model name and I was still denied. I am so disappointed with Cigna, CARECENTRIX and Apria for lying to me and giving me bad information. It's been going on 4 months and walking, standing on my bad knees is painful and it's difficult to get around my apartment. I am reduced to using two walking canes to balance myself and to even out the weight on my knees. The rollator I want costs around $200.00. I have been arguing for two months to get Cigna to pay for my colonoscopy. It's supposed to be fully covered, with no cost to the insured (me). Under the ACA, Cigna needs to pay in full. I am beyond frustrated with Cigna as a health insurance carrier, and after seeing all of the 1 star reviews here, I see I am not alone. In the past 15 years or so, I have had probably 5 or 6 different health insurance carriers and I have never, EVER had any problems until now. Cigna contracts out third party companies, such as EviCore and ASH Group. These are the two I have had to deal with, denying just about everything with my medical care. I have been in three severe car accidents over the last 10 years, and have had to have Physical Therapy usually once a year, sometimes every two years on my lower back. I also have needed it on my neck due to injuries. I had a Neurologist refer me to Physical Therapy due to severe lower back pain, and after 8 visits, Cigna requires you get approval, and you have a hard max of 20 visits per year. ASH Group has denied me anything past my initial 8 visits, so I was cut short in the middle of my treatment. I was making progress, and due to this, I am back to square one at a high level of pain. Before my initial 8 visits of PT, my doctor referred me for an MRI of my lumbar spine, where my pain is. This was denied, by Evicore. They would prefer I go into PT and have work done on my back, with NO knowledge of what is actually wrong, which I disagree with. After many fights, and delays, I went and had the MRI done, and paid $400 as a cash patient. My results came back with two pages of issues, and now I know what I am dealing with and was able to show my PT doctor so they could work on my exact problems. I appealed the MRI denial, and asked for my $400 back, after sending my results of the MRI, and was denied again. How does this make sense? Go in blindly to treat pain instead of knowing what the actual problem is. Infuriating. I have been fighting for months to get more PT visits approved and ASH refuses to do so. My doctor sent an updated medical report, and now has to do a peer to peer meeting with them, to yet again, fight for me to get treatment I desperately need. Every appeal has been denied, every update has been denied, DENY DENY DENY. Its ridiculous. Cigna has also denied a medication. I was asked to take a Cholesterol medication that I had a reaction to. When my Endocrinologist switched it, it was denied. I received a letter that I needed to try a different class of medications first. I HAD! I had a reaction. So my doctor asked me to try again, and I had the same reaction, only worse this time. So currently because they refuse to pay attention, and give me what I need, I am not on any medication and need to be. I am not sure what I actually pay for insurance for, as they are denying everything. I have had to pay cash for visits for things such as my MRI and Physical Therapy when I should only have to pay a Co-Pay. It is so unfair and infuriating. I was assigned an advocate to help me this, but I have seen no change in anything since being assigned her. Shes very friendly and I appreciate her trying to help me, and her sympathy but it has changed nothing. Sadly, I am not able to chose another insurance carrier, so I am stuck, but I am so frustrated and truly disgusted. I have also noticed they pay almost nothing for any doctor appointment that is In Network that they have actually approved. It is minimal, so I wouldnt be surprised if doctors stop working with this company. Something has to change. I am being denied of vital medical attention that I need. Horrible customer service. Hold times are always 1hr. most times calls are disconnected and have to hold another hour. Recording says call times longer than usual, when 1hr is the usual call time. Doctors, service providers, and other are shown in plan but upon attempting to use said provider, you are told they are out of network. No way to reach U.S. workers without going through foreign workers. Corporate is impossible to reach, as they don't care about customer or their supposed customer bill of rights. They deny basic payments such as paid for blood test but not the blood draw. How can you test blood without the draw? Did not pay for medicine that was given intravenously. Contacted customer support with CPT codes for procedures to see if it would be covered, the rep assured me they were. A month later I get a bill for over $1,000, and the claims were denied. Aparently it was my fault as I didn't specify what the procedures were for? In my opinion the reps answering the phone should know what to ask to ensure I get the right info, givin that they're the "experts". I sent in an appeal which was also denied. I'm so over CIgna and their terrible customer service. They stiffed me out of 1,000.00. My advice would be to get a different insurance carrier if you can. Your company is horrible! FACT- canceled Policy FACT- cigna employee removes by billing info and says I will NOT be billed. FACT- I was charged again and was told it takes 15 days for refund. I have insurance through my employer with Cigna. My preventive care claims were processed smoothly, and so far that is the case for the one illness I have had. They negotiate the prices down significantly for plan members. But like all private insurers in this country their system is user unfriendly. It is hard to determine which behind the scenes providers are in network. I did not go for a recommended mammogram because supposedly the hospital radiologist was not in network. Then when I had to have an x-ray I found out the radiologist group affiliated with that hospital actually is in network. One reason it is hard to get information is the call center is offshored to the Philippines. Staff have language/cultural barriers. For instance, one woman I spoke with did not get that Henry Heywood Hospital is a hospital and kept referring to "Doctor Henry". The best insurance I ever had was when I was unemployed and had Mass Health. Now I never seem to know what care will cost me, especially since I have an indemnity plan. There is also no cap for out of network out of pocket costs which is illegal in Massachusetts as it violates Minimum Creditable Coverage standards, yet this is the only policy offered by a company with its headquarters and a plurality of its employees in the Bay State. However, I did receive a 1099 HC. The hospital had trouble figuring out my insurance as well because my card says both Tufts and Cigna and patient registration said only one company should be listed. The pharmacy also had some difficulty, and same story with the eyecare plan. The vision provider said we're not in their network, Cigna said they were, and finally I got the two of them to talk to each other and figure it out. That was also an issue of too many company and plan names and aliases. Nothing is straightforward. This is why we need single payer. read more

This takes a lot for me to write such a long scathing review. The reviews we post, i.e. on Yelp stay up indefinitely on the internet for the entire public to see. Yet that is exactly my purpose of writing such a lengthy, detailed review about CIGNA as an insurance company. The public really does need to see this review posted for years to come, maybe then might CIGNA finally decide to make some changes in how it operates its business practices and treats its customers. So my frustrations all began several months ago in February of this year, 2019 when I was diagnosed with a potentially life threatening, serious health condition which would first require CAT-SCAN tests, and later chemotherapy. After verifying my insurance coverage and being guaranteed by CIGNA that my CAT-SCAN would be covered by them, I went ahead and had the procedure done. Yet only, to be informed weeks later via a letter from CIGNA that coverage of my claim was now being denied. Several weeks later, after this immense aggravation and hassle, CIGNA did eventually agree to cover the CAT-SCAN which had been determined medically necessary. Let me tell you that it wasn't without an intense legal fight however involving an attorney which I eventually had to get involved to help advocate for me. After that, I then became aware from one of the oncologists I visited that I would also need to undergo chemotherapy. This was a further nightmare hassle dealing with CIGNA, trying to get them to cover this medically necessary treatment too. My separate denial paperwork from them which I first received stated that chemotherapy wasn't medically necessary. Three different oncologists over the course of 5 weeks of different consultation appointments begged to differ however. Each of them wrote very detailed clinical documentation in support of my medical need to have this chemotherapy treatment covered. Fast forward almost 5 months later, after doing essentially 'battle royale' with CIGNA's claims, appeals, and even legal departments, and I was FINALLY approved for chemotherapy. Now mind you, this was almost 5 months after the initial, detailed medical recommendation from the first medical oncologist had been made. Long story short, and I won't bore everyone with all the precise details of my medical history, but this maneuver by CIGNA to essentially try to weasel out of covering a medially necessary series of chemotherapy treatment sessions for me has wreaked long-term, permanent damage on my health. I live on a very fixed income, there was no way that I would have been able to afford any of this treatment out of pocket. Besides, the specific legalese inside my insurance contract between me as the member and CIGNA as the insurer even specified that chemotherapy sessions for cancer diagnoses (i.e. by qualified, board-certified oncologists) are indeed medically necessary and are "to be covered as per your policy contract states." CIGNA did not follow through, however. They basically tried to escape legally required financial responsibility of covering both these medically necessary treatments for me: CAT-SCAN and chemo. This matter has unfortunately gotten to the point that is now pending an Insurance Review Board decision in helping me to recuperate all the money that I'm now out as a result of all the medical complications from these delayed chemotherapy treatments which CIGNA tried to avoid covering. Here's the difficult part of my review now, because generally, I am a very mellow and spiritual woman who tries to always live my life according to the "Golden Rule" of treating others as you yourself would want to be treated - which CIGNA certainly didn't. My review here on Yelp should hopefully serve as a cautionary tale for those considering insurance coverage through CIGNA. In my humble opinion, this corporation isn't very ethical. They do not stand by their word, and they do not follow the law when it comes to covering their members in accordance with the specific, legally binding terms and conditions which they draft in their own insurance contracts. Based upon all my horrific experiences dealing with CIGNA over the past several months, I guess I would have to say that I would advise those in the market for health insurance to probably just steer clear of CIGNA altogether. You could possibly encounter the same nightmares, hassles and legal issues I've already had to deal with for months. If my review can save just one person from all the misery and awful things which I had to go through during my quest for life saving chemotherapy treatment to be covered by an insurer who tried to back out of "doing the right thing" on their own, then maybe it was all worth the time and energy that went into me posting this cautionary review about CIGNA who I feel is a very unethical insurer. I am still trying to get reimbursed for a reimbursable claim I submitted over 90 days ago. They first decided they didn't have enough information, so they sat on it and didn't tell me until I called. During that call, they said they could get the information and expedite processing of my claim. When I followed up, they said I would have to submit a new claim form by mail. Cigna does not care about veterans and has no respect for VA doctors!! When my VA doctor recommended I stay out of work because of a herniated disc for a couple more weeks, Cigna would not continue my benefits with my doctors note. They wanted to review my medical records instead of respecting the recommendation of my VA doctor or the VA physical therapist. I am in the process of buying a home, and my mortgage company may not approve my loan because I can not show steady income thanks to Cigna. My deposit is non refundable and I have a limited time on where I am staying with my family currently. They don't call you for clarification or for any reason, instead they seem to twist or extract from the complaint what serves them. They did call my docs office --COVINA HEALTH CARE and COVINA FLAT OUT LIED ABOUT THE SITUATION and at that point the whole thing was blown off. In fact that docs office lied twice...two separate office..I don't understand what the point is of filing the complaint if they are just going to blow it off at the first opportunity. I did reply and to tell them that the doctors office told A BOLD FACE LIE..no response. This last docs office didn't review my lab work for about 2 months and he still wouldn't have if I hadn't of chased him down. As a result I had to bully my way into obtaining my Rx's.--which by the way were incorrect--again I had to do the footwork on that...DON'T EXPECT THIS INSURANCE COMPANY TO ASSIST THE PATIENT WITH ANY CONCERN...WHATEVER HAPPENS THE PATIENT IS LEFT HOLDING THE BAG. I filed a grievance with Cigna last year about the transportation department within my policy. I had a broken ankle on my right leg and couldn't drive. The answer to my grievance was "they are doing the best they can do". That is not exactly what they said but you get the results I received. This November, I broke a bone in my right foot and pulled a ligument in the right foot. I can't drive. I have had to attempt to use the transportation department. This department still is having the same problems as they had last year. I had to cancel 2 Doctor's apportment because no one showed up to picked me up. I filed a grievance with Cigna and the responds was the same as last years. This company has no accountabilty because everything is done by internally and there is not any outside review of there problems. Fraudsters. Liars. I don't know if I can think of a (polite) invective sufficient to describe this company. I've had insurance through them for less than a year. And unfortunately, I've had two hospital trips in that time. And both of those have been a fiasco. Not because of my health (thankfully). Not because of the hospitals's staff or medical treatment (thankfully). But because of Cigna. *Story 1* In December, I was injured so badly that I needed, for the first time in my life, to take an ambulance to a hospital. When I got my explanation of benefits from this company, i was told that my bill was about $1600, that Cigna had negotiated a discount of $425, and that, ultimately, I owed $120. Fine. But then I got the ambulance bill. Turns out that no discount had been negotiated. That was a lie. When i called Cigna about this, the woman I spoke with admitted that Cigna had no negotiated discount with the ambulance service that took me. In fact she admitted that NO ambulance services negotiated discounts with Cigna. Turned out that I didn't owe $120. That was a lie. I owed $545. When I called Cigna on this, they admitted that they would typically only pay that additional $425 if a customer called and complained. So, to review, they lie to customers about how much customers owe, in hopes that customers won't care or notice and will pay a portion of what Cigna owes, to the company's benefit and customers' detriment. So they reprocess my bill. And the new bill says I STILL owe more than $120. After six months, Cigna still has not paid the ambulance company what they owe. *Story 2* The upside of the ambulance/hospital bill was that I'd met my deductible for the plan year (which runs from November 1 - October 31. So I would not have any more huge hospital bills. At least, that was what I was informed by a Cigna rep when I spoke with them after the December debacle. Turns out THAT was a lie too. My deductible renewed in January. How'd I learn this? When I sought medical care in March for lingering problems from my December trip, Cigna refused to pay a penny. So I called the hospital, explained what happened, and called Cigna for what I thought was a simple fix to a simple oversight. They promised to look into it. Surprise! They never did. Three months and numerous calls later, they didn't process my appeal of the coverage decision, although they told me they would. They didn't review the tape of the phone call where i was told my deductible was covered, although they told me they would. Multiple phone calls,and multiple letters later, nothing. And now, because Cigna has so delayed in processing the payment they owe -- because their agent told me my deductible was covered -- that now the hospital has sent the bill to collections. I will once again have to pay a bill owed by Cigna. Someone -- anyone -- should look into this company's financial fraud. The Connecticut State AG. The DOJ. Anyone. Stop these criminals. My review for CIGNA 900 Cottage Grove Road Hartford, CT 06152Hartford, CT 06152 Its a private health insurance you buy to protect you, but after you use it you get a lot more bills from CIGNA that will not pay, its called your deductible...and if you don't pay it the provider of service will send it to a collection agency that will put it on you and your credit..so you wind up paying $300 to $350 a month of premium and your doctor visit of $40 to $60 plus the deductible that will be send back to you to pay just to see a doctor in a month you may pay $500 to $750 to a $1000 pluse the other monthly premiums you have paid on previous months just to see a doctor for a regular check up with some blood test. is it worth it? i say NO, its a no win no win situation. Better to apply for a free government medical or Medicare LHIP CMS or others if you qualify, or jut go to a normal clinic when needed and pay cash. read more

God for bid you have to use their short term disability.. every week they will stop getting you a paycheck until they have your doctor(s) fax over their notes so they can review them (which takes up to 2 weeks) and make a decision on whether you should get a weekly paycheck... I believe this is national headquarters for Cigna. While this place I went to for ER was nice and --administration wise they don't even deserve one star. I called before going to the ER to ensure I would be in network with Cigna (as they were not listed online most anyplace). Fast forward, four months of reminders and repeals, and I was not and am not fully covered at their facility until December, 2017. I also confirmed in at check in that Cigna would be fully covered. After nine interactions and four months, credit calls, etc. as of today my Cigna has not paid the amount the are supposed to on my ER Claim. There call backs aren't reliable and they provide different information each time, other then "this takes a long time". Four months plus on payment ---not acceptable. Terrible claims service. Chela, a Cigna social media customer service manager, replied to my Yelp review WITH AN EMAIL ADDRESS and even CALLED ME to assist. She was able to resolve my problems in just a few minutes. I was very happy and expect to be receiving insurance cards and a copy of my policy soon. The take aways for me is at least the social media folks at Cigna can solve problems and Yelp reviews [my first] can produce results. =================Original Review Starts Here====================== Basically Cigna's service on individual dental plans sucks. I'm writing this review out of desperation. This is my first yelp review. I tried to find someone at Cigna with the power to address my problem with no luck and I tried to find someone in power to send an email. No luck again. So I'm hoping to help others to select other providers. My story: I purchased an individual dental plan on 9/26 and shortly thereafter received an email with information on how to create an account. My progress stopped there. I've never been able to access any details about my policy on line and I've never received anything other than bills in the mail. I don't have insurance cards or a copy of my policy though I've called and requested both several times. Cigna's customer facing staff seems to be divided into three groups, customer service, policy processing and Internet. When you call you talk to customer service. To me the customer service group is a useless [to the customer] buffer that can't actually do anything other than transfer your call into another queue that's likely as not send you back to the customer service automated attendant where you start over. I've been lucky enough to have a conference call with both the individual policy folks and the Internet folks. They basically argued with each other about why my policy had not been transferred from the back end to the front end system. Apparently Cigna doesn't provide policy numbers or mail anything [except bills] to customers until the policy is on the front end system. Thus, I've still received nothing other than bills. At this point I've probably spent 3-4 hours on the phone with Cigna and I'm beginning to think that nothing I do will get me a card or policy. God knows what will happen when I go to the Dentist. Based on my hours of experience troubleshooting my personal problems, I've concluded that most of their problems can be traced to their computer system (IT). The best metaphor that I can come up with is that they must have hired Dilbert's company to design and deliver their computer system and hired Dogbert for tech support. I finally, after more than 2-months can log onto their system and see my contact info and what I'm paying each month. That's it. Not even the phone number in the upper right corner is correct. When you call that number you're given a different number to call. It goes downhill from there. The customer service folks can't believe that's what I see when I log on. They keep asking me to register again which doesn't work because I'm always told that I'm already registered. Bottom line, pick someone else for your individual insurance needs. Don't contact Cigna. They can sell you a policy; but they won't service it. read more

Nothing can be worst than Cigna, including other industries not health insurance.Unprofessional and disrespectful. Tried to have a prescription approved since 10/09, which was approved in 2015 with no problem. Every time I called them and provided the case number, nobody knew anything about it. Customer service representatives are ridiculously mediocre. I recognize the other plans have issues, but nothing like them. Called them (again) on 11/22, spoke to Christina that told me she spoke with the doctor's office, the documentation was going to be sent (again) and that the appeal process takes one month. Asked me to call on 12/12. Update (12/12): spoke to Kenkera, Denae and Alex (Supervisor); were not able to find the case number and documentation; Alex called back saying that he spoke to the doctor and docs will be sent. Update (12/15): spoke to Toni; did not find the case # and didn't know any supervisor by the name of Alex; spoke to Kyle; did not find the information Update (12/16): spoke Lance (supervisor) cannot be done over the phone and that the documentation was not received; I asked them to conference the doctor's office in and I learned that the fax was sent to a wrong number! Nov 1! They didn't say anything when I called before! The doctor's office gave the right fax number to Cigna. REALLY? Lance said he will follow-up. I will too. Update (12/21): doctor's office called me to ask what was going on, once he gave the information to Cigna back in November. He told me he was going to send the fax again. I confirmed the fax was sent the day after by calling he doctor's office. Update (12/26): spoke to Tadeschia (I spoke to her on 11/22); Lance is not there, so I spoke with another supervisor called Nordia, which came to the call totally unprepared and know nothing about the case. Offered apologies (they are good at that) and asked me to... wait! Call is already 22 minutes long; only to know that the department that handles these requests is closed today. Update (12/27): Nordia called me o inform the appeal will take one month to be analyzed. It will be 4 months to have the whole process addressed. Final Update (01/06); Appeal denied by John J. Greed, incompetence and waste make your rates higher. They have sent me 30 separate messages via US Mail to tell me that a "Misc Provider" FSA reimbursement (with no dollar amount listed) could not be paid. I have called at least three times...still getting the letters. Next, forget about using the Debit Card. They pay it when the Dr swipes it, but then deny it a few weeks later saying they need more information. I paid something and it came through as "MEDTECH BILLING". I don't know who this is, it is probably a third party that does billing for one of my Drs. They can't give me a phone number or address of Medtech. Which is a lie because it is a credit card transaction and Visa has the information. So I finally pay them back for it, they cash the check and then continue to send me harassing emails over and over again. If you think that we have an acceptable health insurance agency, you have lost your mind. We don't need Obamacare, we need single payer. Single payer would have saved $500 on these two issues. read more
