I finally understand the hype around Wolfpack and I'm so glad I gave them a few chances before…read morecodifying my thoughts on this Yelp review. Some background: I've been a few times now, but never under good circumstances. The first time I was at their food truck right when they opened and they were short on a few items. When I got home the sides weren't great, but I kind of chalked it up to them not being fully ready for me. The second time I went, in contrast I was probably their last diner in their newly opened space. I had a friend with me who had just come off the plane and needed a late dinner. The food was good, but again they were out of a bunch of things we wanted to try and I wasn't blown away. Now, my husband and I made the trip over to their location in Columbus Park about a month ago during regular dining hours and had an absolutely incredible bbq dinner from start to finish. The server was amazing, the food was insanely tender and delicious, and we left so so so full in the best way possible. This was what I had heard from others and what I was expecting and I was so happy to be able to report that they do live up to the hype, and if you catch them on an off day, give some grace and try again as this local spot is worth it. Oh, and get the cheese dip with bbq in it - I forget what kind of meat that features but holy hell was that great.

So when I initially went to Wolfpack, I must have hit on a bad day. The owner reached out to me and…read moretold me if I came again, it would be a 5 star. We snuck in unannounced on Father's Day and he was exactly right, it was 5 star. The kids took me out for Father's Day and the place was busy. We arrived around 5:30 or 6. Our server came over and gave us menus, but informed us that they were out of ribs and pulled pork. My daughter had her heart set on pulled pork and I wanted a slab to share. Not a problem, we went to our backups. My eldest daughter went for the Smoked Turkey BLT, my youngest daughter ordered the Mac & Cheese, and my sone ordered a burger. I went full in and created my own plate, Brisket, Pork Belly Burnt Ends, Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage, Onion Rings, and Lemon Pepper Slaw. Now my kids are not the biggest BBQ fans, but they all loved their meals. My eldest remarked her turkey was not dry and really good. As for mine? BRILLIANT! The sausage was some of the best jalapeno cheddar I have had in recent years, the burnt ends were succulent and flavorful. The brisket was just the tye of brisket I have been hunting for. It was sliced from the connected flat and point (most places here only do the flat) and there was that beautiful line of rendered fat dividing the two parts. It had great smoke flavor (needed no sauce) and was definitely juicy. Wolfpack has lured me in and we will return soon. Side Note: The reason I snuck in unannounced was to be able to give a true and honest review without the possibility of getting better than usual because of the owner's invite back to try them again after my first visit. The level of service, the quality of food, and the overall atmosphere won them a 5 star, nothing else. This is a great local BBQ joint.

Laura, the owner, greeted us as soon as we walked in and was probably the sweetest and most welcoming person we've met in Kansas City. She immediately made us feel at home. We started with the meatballs and burrata, both of which were delicious. The meatballs were especially well seasoned. My wife had the bolognese and absolutely loved it, and she really appreciated having gluten-free options available. I had the cacio e pepe, and the pasta was cooked perfectly. All in all, the food, service, and ambiance were outstanding. One of our favorite meals of the trip. Highly recommend for both locals and visitors alike.

Great upscale Italian atmosphere without making you feel like you need to pronounce every menu item with an accent. The menu has a nice variety, and our waiter was fantastic. He took the time to explain the dishes and even gave us a heads-up on which items took longer to prepare. I always appreciate the honesty--nothing worse than wondering if your entrée is being handcrafted by Italian grandmas in the back. The drinks were delicious and surprisingly reasonably priced. We did find out they have a happy hour at the bar...right after we missed it. Rookie mistake on our part! The lasagna absolutely stole the show. Rich, flavorful, cheesy, and worth every bite. If you're on the fence, order it. The appetizer was tasty but felt a little small for the price, so I'd probably save room (and money) for more pasta instead. Overall, I'd definitely come back to work my way through the menu. Next time I'll aim for happy hour, order another pasta dish, and try not to let the lasagna set unrealistic expectations for everything else.
