Cinemapolis is such a charming little independent theater that's quickly winning me over. The prices here are unbeatable - just $10 for student tickets, and the concessions are insanely cheap (def def get their popcorn! They have cool topping options), much more affordable than what you'd find at chain theaters like Regal or AMC. I'm finding myself growing more and more appreciative of independently run places like this. I saw a local ad of the library right the street from Cinemapolis while waiting for my screening to start. It started as, "hey! It's the library across the street..." and it was so cute. The staff here are the sweetest - so kind and friendly, which really adds to the experience. I can't say enough good things about them. I can definitely see myself frequenting this theater more often in the future. Def a 5 stars! :)

I have been coming to this theatre since 2019 when I first started attending a shelter medicine conference at Cornell.

I'm very glad they "survived" their recent funding crisis ... For myself, I can't think of a more…read morecrucial student & faculty amenity than a cinema ... Clearly some disagree ... However I've been delighted to find large crowds at (some) recent screenings ... And a few hardened cineastes like moi, at others , haw haw ... Two petty gripes: Any chance of ever getting coffee service back behind the counter again? ... I hate wrangling with the ornery keurig pods ... And, though I'm afraid this one is even more impossible -- I wish that for those of us walking back to C-town, that someone could persuade the groundskeeping powers-that-be not to chain the external steps in (endless) winter-time ... It's such a much faster & less lung-crushing way of getting back up to the top ... I guess they feel they have to do that though -- just so that if I slip on the ice & sue Uncle Ezra, that they can remind me that I stepped over the dang chains ... Oh well ... In concluding, what with all the multifarious distraction options these days, it'll probably never again be like it was in the "big 80's" -- when Statler would fill up every weekend with frat boys stomping on the floor and shouting "Tastes Great!" in unison, only to hear their coy sorority counterparts respond in coy contralto, "Less Filling!" ... before every picture ... Those were the days alright! ...

A couple other good reasons: the price is right for Cornell affiliates (tickets are only $5 for grad students) and the space is beautiful - the one-screen cinema is set in a soaring, classic 1920s auditorium covered in stunning murals. In the warmer months, screenings are even held outside. If you happen to be from Boston or are familiar with the Harvard Square area of Cambridge, MA, the CC is roughly Ithaca's equivalent to the Brattle Cinema or the Harvard Film Archive (it's university-managed like the HFA, but looks like and has offerings more along the lines of those at the Brattle).

It was almost like life theater because the first row was basically on the stage with the performer, single woman performer right in the middle of everything so it was a really cool. First experience the staff was very friendly. They have a full bar with snacks and yeah, they have a lot of associations with non-for-profit loaves and fish as the sponsor for the show who feed the homeless and there was other art organizations present there as well. You know it's a great central theater that has like a lot of like really good shows known for having great actors from Ithaca College, so usually seeing a performance in the city is a solid choice and I definitely recommend the kitchen theater. The building is modern and artistic in a simple way. It was my first time coming here and I suppose I had the expectation it would be like the other plays I'd seen in my life; your standard auditorium and sitting in darkness, alone to my own devices. I was pleasantly surprised! Their motto is "bold, intimate, engaging", and I soon found out why as I walked back a hall which entered into a small theatre where the relatively small amount of seats were placed in such away around the room you had no choice but be part of the stage. What an experience. It was like someone was not only telling you a story, but acting it out for you... You personally. And they were so close they would all make eye contact with you from time to time making it more personal. I felt engaged and pulled along with the story. They move so fast and don't have time or a way to dim the lights and move props etc so it's interesting how creative they get... It's literally like daddy acting out a story to his children at some points, very sweet and special. You can tell the actors are having fun, and they did a splendid job! I'd go back, but make sure to reserve ahead if you can- it's small!
