I don't agree with most negative comments. I went for a 3D film on a Sunday pm and there was no queue. Seats were comfy and the sound good. I've had better 3D experiences but it rather did the job. As to the price, you don't HAVE TO buy popcorn, which would do good to your health and the smell in the theatre, by the way. And the ticket price is quite in line with London or Paris. I could have missed subtitles if it hadn't been an action movie... So after all a reasonably good experience in ov, which I thought had vanished in Frankfurt since the American theatre has closed a few years back. read more

They show movies in English. That's cool. But they don't know what they're doing, and they don't care. Pretty unprofessional from what I've seen. I saw "Snowpiercer" there, an international movie that has mostly English and occasionally Korean dialogue. They advertised this as a "Screening in English" and that it was the original version (OV). After some early title sequences written in German rather than English, there was indeed no German subtitles on the English dialogue. Alright, whatever. BUT, they didn't show *any* subtitles for the Korean dialogue in the film! What were the characters saying? I had to look online when I got home! If this were indeed the "original version" -- actually the international version since the original has Korean subtitles on the English dialogue -- then there'd be English text at the beginning and English subtitles during the Korean dialogue. When I spoke to an employee about this afterwards, they said that this was indeed the original version and that it's not their fault. Uhh, okay, original version or not, you're not showing the film properly. I pointed out that it was shown neither for a German-speaking audience nor an English-speaking audience, that what they showed actually comprised all three languages. They didn't care and didn't give any refund or discount. It's not that I care about the remaining 5 people who will see "Snowpiercer" (hey I thought it was pretty good), it's that this cinema simply doesn't give a shit that they're doing something so wrong that virtually *nobody* can follow the damn movie. Also, the place is messy as hell. The owner should pay for some more employees to clean up the place, and he also shouldn't hide behind the poor worker at the box office when customers are complaining about his failure to show a movie properly. Go see OmU movies at the Harmonie kino instead. They won't screw you. read more

Please don't be up off by only 3 stars I DO still recommend this place. I mean after all it successfully employes serveral people who are obviously bored to death by their job but manage to survive! If you are the kind of person who lets their evening be spoilt by rude staff spare yourself the trouble and don't come here. If you actually want to see the movie go ahead. The cinema-rooms have a decent size and look quite new, the seats are comfy and of course there is the fabilous cuddle-couch two seats attached so an annoying couple can snog around in front of you (I know it sounds synical, but that is not my intention, I LOVE the cuddle-couch and have been part of this annoying couple serveral times). The quality of the projection is fine and the cinemar offeres serval movies in their original language, meaning English, really. One thing that I honestly find god-awful though is the snack-bar. The popcorn tastes old and isnt crunchy at all, and I think the whole selection at the snack bar is seriously overpriced, and I dont mean in an I-am-a-poor-student-kind of way, I mean it's is just unreasonable! So bring your own drink (hide it well) and enjoy a nice evening. After all it is a beautiful location. read more

Behind the elegant façade lies a typical German multiplex cinema that's neither particularly cosy nor chic. Movies offered are also the typical fare one would expect from such a place. Prices are as steep as the carpets are sticky at the end of the evening, but the seats are comfortable even when watching a three hour epic. Personally, I also prefer having the choice of either paying upfront for the increasingly ubiquitous 3D glasses or bringing my own with me. One of the only cinemas in the Frankfurt region that shows movies in OV (at least some movies) which is about the only good thing about this movie theater. The ticket counters are hidden behind pillars so you can't see whenever one is occupied / free and there is usually a long waiting line (at least for the evening screening). Most of the time it is not possible to just reserve seats. If you want to make a reservation you will have to pay the ticket price in advance (with an additional advance payment fee on top!). Base ticket prices are very expensive and there is a surcharge for overtime and 3D (+ the glasses). Queues at the snack bar are also _always_ long. Expect to wait 15+ minutes for prime time screenings. The whole cinema including the show rooms and the restrooms are disgusting... Spilled drinks (or other liquids), ice cream and popcorn all over. Escalators are out of service most of the time. Parking nearby is only possible in one the public parking garage. For one of them (Schillerpassage) you get a discount if you validate your parking ticket at the counter (see comment about the waiting time above). The only reason for going to this particalur cinema are the OV screenings. 2 stars because I am in a forgiving mood today. read more

I have come to the conclusion that Cinestar does not want expat business. I have seen several blockbusters in the 17 years since I moved here but after tonight I have reached my limit. I have never seen a film in perfect focus or as tonight less than clear sound and imperfect 3D. Maybe they show the dubbed films just as poorly. Also, I thought that based on the length of the Avengers Ultron (141 mins), that could go straight to a screening of Fast 7 (150 mins later). What they fail to do is inform patrons that there will be a 15+ minute irritating pause in the middle so I ended up missing a large chunk of Fast 7 and decided to forget it. I have been to movies in my native UK, the US, Luxembourg, Belgium and France and I must say that this cinema offers the worst experience. Unless you need to see a film in 3D and/or on the large screen, wait for the film to come out online streaming or Blu-ray. You will also avoid those annoying groups where someone is translating the dialogue to their friend. read more

I DO NOT LIKE THIS THEATER! BUT: This is your ONLY option in Frankfurt if you want to watch a movie in English. Unfortunately, I only watch (new) movies in OV (- which is 99.9% English), so I am stuck with this theater. The lines have gotten RIDICILOUS since they have implemented this new rule that you cannot get to your assigned room until a few minutes before showtime. We went to see a movie last weekend and I had to spend 20 min in the line-up to get the tickets - cause of course, you need to pick up reserved tickets at least 30 min before showtime or your reserved seats will expire -, then another 10 minutes hanging out before I had to get into the line to get your ticket scanned for access and then another 10 minutes in line to be able to get to our assigned theater. That is 50 minutes of my life, I will never get back! Of course, I could just buy tickets in advance and then skip the first line-up... but wait! There is a 10% fee if you purchase the ticket online advance! WTF! Other places will give you a 10% DISCOUNT if you buy the tix in advance! And the ticket prices are already pretty high, especially if you want to go on a Saturday evening. Oh yeah, and don't get me started on the snacks. If you want popcorn and a drink, you easily have to put another 15€ down. * This adds up and therefore a movie night with 3 people can easily become quite expensive. To be honest, I really think that this theater KNOWS that the English-speaking community has no other choice but to see movies at the Metropolis, so they are just happy to rip us off. So I guess, I have to continue to deal with this sh!t since I will continue to watch movies in OV - but this is my message to the Cinestar Metropolis management: FU** YOU! *Do yourself a favor and stock up on drink and snacks at the REWE around the corner - you will only pay a fraction compared to what you can get at the Metropolis. read more

No air conditioning on one of the hottest day of the year!?!?!?!!? I went to see a movie here yesterday. It was nearly 30 degress celsius inside the the theatre. The back of my shirt was drenched wet with sweat. This is inacceptable. When I complained the the so-called "manager" she said it takes time for the air conditioner to start and basically only offered excuses and not even an apology. This is pathetic! How can you enjoy a movei that you paid EUR 15 (EUR 30 if you count the snacks) to watch if you are sweating and uncomfortable. This is how they treat loyal, paying customers at this movie theatre. Prices go up and up and up for everything while service goes down. It takes 30 minutes on a non crowded day to get a Damn coke. When there is a Damn full line to get movie tickets only two windows are open. This isn't new but it's Damn old for me and. It's to a point where me and my friends now avoid this place and use the smaller theaters. The cost and the service IS NO LONGER WORTH IT. read more

Super cool state of the art new, huge cinema in the middle of Frankfurt! NOT in a shipping center, but in the most beautiful neighborhood, very close to the Ziel shopping street and Römer old part of the city. I went to see the Sneak preview on Mondays at 21. At 20 there's a similar sneak preview in German but the original version (English) starts at 21. You better come early (30-40m) if you want a chance in actually getting in. If you prefer not to buy the overpriced food at the cinema, there's a nice Imbiss (Falafel\Hamburger\Kaba etc.) place within sight, a Rewe (supermarket) down the street and tons of other cafés and restaurant. You are tecnnically not allowed to bring you own food in, but nobody will care really. Seats are super comfy. Enjoy! read more

On of the biggest cinemas in Frankfurt. offers many 3D movies. Ticket prices are little bit to high if no special promotions.

Although it bears many of the hallmarks of the dreaded multiplex this cinema has some notable features that raise it from the dregs of cinema. Self-dubbed The Home of English Cinema, it shows a selection of original language films, not adventurous but still O.V. However, more excitingly this cinema now shows satellite link-up live performances from the National Theatre in collaboration with Frankfurt's English Theatre. The first was the sell-out success Danny Boyle's "Frankenstein" with Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch alternating as the master and the monster. Despite a short technical hitch at the beginning (to be expected as a trial run of these events is not really possible) the event seemed to be a great success and I look forward to seeing Zoe Wannamaker in The Cherry Orchard at the end of June. read more

I like watching my movies in english so ever since the Cinema down the street has closed I am forced to come here. The movie quality in the Metropolis has always been good so I can't really complain about that. Their Ticket, Snack & Beverage prices however are ridiculous. If you plan on going as a couple you easily spent 50€. If you plan on buying your tickets online you have to pay a 2€ or 3€ fee. Really? 3D glasses will cost you extra too. Popcorn and Beverage 12,50€. Employee told me he'd get me the Fast & Furious Menu as it was cheaper than just the regular Popcorn & Coke. 2 weeks before that we paid 10€ for another Menu which also wasn't cheap but still cheaper than the 12,50€ option. Employee was right though it was still the cheapest option. If you go I suggest you take your own drink from a supermarket. Nobody has ever checked my bag here so feel free. As said above never had any complaints during the movies neither had I had a bad seat. Their toilets are kind of disgusting though so you might wanna overthink my suggestion of taking a drink. About 3 weeks ago they had a problem so all toilets were closed due to maintenance. Can't go back outside and no other options so what were people that had to go supposed to do? Only reason it gets 2 stars is that it's the only option to watch a movie in it's original version and thus I will have to keep coming back. Frankfurt USED to be a great place for English movies. The old Turm Kinos had 7 screens showing 99% English movies. No More! Cinestar bought the original Turm Kino parent company and when the Turm cinema had to shut down because the building was sold and had to be torn down, they transferred the English movies to their flagship Metropolis. WHAT A PITY! Despite supposedly being a high class modern cinema, this turned out to be a disaster people who prefer to see their movies undubbed!!!! The management never cared (and now care even less) about English movies, neither did/do they care about cleanliness. Even despite its recent make over, the complex is still a health disaster. (Just check out the WC's at night YUCK!!) Whereas the Turm showed exclusively english movies, from blockbuster to art, Cinestar only shows blockbuster movies, at VERY irregular times. So despite bragging about showing 4 or 5 movies, these would be at very inconvenient times - IF the movie you want to see is actually in the programme, you may have to take an afternoon off to see it. For example tonight, a Friday there are no English movies showing before 22.00. Or wait three weeks before the 'latest' 3D blockbuster is finally showing in English. What a comedown from having 7 screens running only English movies all day!!! How to kill an established market!!!! For more than 30 years Frankfurt was one of the best places to watch English movies in Germany then Cinestar happened! Hopefully someone in Cinestar Top management will kick someone's butt one day. Cinestar is essentially identical to any American movie theater (I.e. Regal, AMC) in size, quality, price, and selection of movies. They have large theaters with good sound systems. I watched a special event Bollywood movie here and came away feeling satisfied with the environment. The best part is how close the theater is to the Eschenheimer Tor UBahn station. The distance from the theater exit to the station entrance is about 3 meters. Only downside is the cost - I spent 12€ for the movie ticket, and 9€ for a small popcorn and small soda. read more

Worst cinema I've been to. 50 minutes of ads before the movie even started. Then nearly one hour into the movie they stop it, turn the lights on and make a 15 minute break hoping people go buy some more popcorn. In the end, it took over 3.5 hours to watch a 2.5 hour movie. Very unfortunate you have to deal with this just to watch a movie in english in Frankfurt. Hopefully another cinema takes advantage of this opportunity, obviously cinestar is completely mismanaged. I used to live in Berlin in the early 2000 and Cinestar Kulturbrauerei was the best option in Prenzlauerberg. friendly and clean. watching movies was fun. now living in Frankfurt: whole different story!!! Maybe it is this greedy Australian Holding Company that screwed up the party. Watched the Hobbit supposedly in Original Version, but what was shown was a German version. Took me10 min of running around until finally somebody felt responsible and restarted the OV version. Today the worst case scenario happend, the movie starts (Rogue 1) and the light are on. full on. Looking for someone responsible again. we are asked to go downstairs, because the popcorn people cannot help. Slow to react they cannot fix it the light situation. They handout ice cream and promise to restart once the lights are out. Finally the lights are out after 15 min, but no restart. I missed the beginning, because I was looking for some responsible employees. tough luck. the so called Ebenen Leiter did not understand why i wanted a free ticket to try again. he said that I had only missed 1:30 min. If you waited for this movie for months, than 1:30 min means a lot. on top of that the air con was not working (people left and right fell asleep) and one speaker on the right played a distorted signal half the time (Kino 5). Thanks for fucking up my star wars experience of 2016. will never come back. will retell my story till this multiplex shuts down. greedy, unresponsive and dirt everywhere! What a shame! read more
