The environment feels safe, and overall, I'd say 4 out of 5 customer experiences here are positive. The only downside I've noticed is an increase in panhandling in the parking lot, which isn't exactly ideal. It doesn't feel unsafe, but it does take away from the otherwise pleasant shopping experience. Hopefully, that's something that can be addressed to keep the store and its surroundings as welcoming as possible.

This is the "Daniel Boone Shell" located just off I-85 exit 164 (Old NC 86 - Hillsborough) in North…read moreCarolina. Along with 85, there's a sign for this Shell at I-40 exit 261 (Old NC Highway 86 - Hillsborough). From I-40 exit 261, this Shell is about 1.5 miles (three minutes) away. I'm not too familiar with this area (at least not yet). The only reason why I think this Shell is known as the Daniel Boone Shell is because there's a giant statue of Daniel Boone behind it (as well as a Waffle House). After I filled up, I drove to the back specifically to take a picture of the statue. There was a sign underneath the statue that said "The Shops at Daniel Boone." It looked like a ghost town back there. Eerily dead. The time of day (night) didn't help. Anyway, this was your standard Shell station. Eight pumps, all on one side (street side) with the convenience store in the back, near Daniel Boone. This station has service bays, but the service center was closed during my visit. The station was bright and clean, stocked with paper towels and washer fluid, and also well-worn. The gas prices were expensive, but I used the app GetUpside to get 17 cents per gallon back. Use my invite code DANIEL66482 to get an additional 15 cents per gallon back the first time you use the app to save on gas. There's no catch. I don't know how the app developers make money, but it's free money back to people who buy gas at Shell and other participating gas stations like BP and Circle K. "Daniel Boone Shell" is what printed on top of my receipt. The receipt printed out nice and clear. I'd come back, if anything, to see what becomes of the creepy ghost town.

I miss this place so much! It was a treat to go a visit this store and pick out a single serving…read moredessert and a wedge of cheese. They had the best chicken salad and carried a good variety of local business food items as well as international. Loved seeing all the new seasonal things and the way the smell of the coffee hit you as soon as you came in. My mother would buy a couple bags of an orange coffee that they would grind fresh and it smelled like those candy orange wedges she would always partake in the sample of coffee that was free as well. The hot sandwiches were good and my mom would buy meat from Germany there which she couldn't find any place else. I had my first cheese straws from the store. I tasted a lot of things for the first time in the store not being native to North Carolina. I always loved the fact that they had the option to build your own basket of food items and you could ship it out to someplace else. Every time I drive by where they used to be in Chapel Hill I miss them and I really hope that one day they rebuild their store. I just think at the time , it got to be that prices became too expensive that nobody was really buying things anymore so maybe if the market changes and prices lower they come back, one can only hope.

Well since 7 people showed up, they plated 7 entrees, 7 appetizers, 7 desserts. We cooked approximately 15. My curiosity got the best of me and I had to ask, where are the other 5 portions we paid for going to? The lead said we can't have the remaining 5 portions, we can have 2 and the rest has to go to feeding the staff... in which most were volunteers.... Ok so in my opinion if they're volunteers then maybe we cook 12 + x-number of portions for staff + volunteers ... Give us what we paid for! Even when asking for seconds or an extra appetizer bite ... the answer was no... strange, we paid for that extra portion. 1st time: they boxed our extra portions nicely without us repeatedly asking about leftovers and extras. They gave us a good amount of leftovers for the amount we paid for. We were happy customers.
