MY UNBIASED OPINION- Location - 5 Parking - 5 Atmosphere - 5 Prices - 3 This place is amazing! My husband brought me here for the first time and I was amazed!!!! You could spend hours in this place. They have all kinds of great gifts and goodies. Chocolates, coffees, drinks, teas, jellys, meats, bakes goods, etc. There are some fancy food items, local vendors and other supplies. Some of the prices are great, others are a little steep. Some things you get a great value for the price but most of the prices are a bit high. However, you are in Chapel Hill so it is to be expected. All in all, there is so much to this store. It's clean and the staff are friendly. Let yourself go free and explore the store. Take your time and have fun! Get some goodies and gifts for family and some for yourself. They do little events here. Check their calendar.

A little bit of class at Southern Season? Yep, that's what they call their cooking classes here and they can be a lot of fun! Hit up the Southern Season website and peruse their long schedule of offerings ranging from baked goods, seasonal specials, sweets and more, appealing to a huge variety of foodies. While CLASS typically features a rotation of staff and local chefs leading their classes, there are also visiting chefs from local restaurants which is what really gets me excited. It's a chance to sample the fare of a high-end restaurant while not making a full commitment. I've had the chance to hit up two classes run by the chef from the Fairview Dining Room and Herons, two very high-end spots. You can now register online but once you get to Southern Season, head to the very back and go up the stairs by the ice cream parlor. At the top you'll find the ladies-men's room and a mod desk in the corner. Register in, grab a name tag and grab a seat in the demo kitchen (first come, first served). And what a nice kitchen it is at Southern Season! Granite counter tops, tons of cabinets and chopping area, overhead mirrors to display the actions and some serious stoves and ovens. They've got water and tea to tide you over until class starts. Typically you'll have a couple of glasses of good wine along with the plates from the chef's menu. Sometimes they will do it real-time, other times they will have all the food prepped and the demo is just that. But overall a fun night where you drink wine, eat good food, pick up some tips on cooking and do a Q&A with great chefs in the area. For $45 it's really not a bad deal at all! And on the way out, go check out Southern Season in its quiet mode. Really odd to see the place nearly deserted but also very cool at the same time...

I really enjoy this store! It has so many unique items and so much geared towards gift giving and NC in general, it's a must-take place for shopping with visitors. Add to that the great restaurant and cooking classes and wow, a winner. Cooking classes are mainly demo and I'd prefer more hands-on like Sur La table or Wynton's World but the local and celebrity chefs are great and I think of it as a wonderful meal with a class. You get to try to wines with the classes which is nice. Sales people are very knowledgeable and helpful especially in the wines. Of course, I will be back.

I say all that as a now wavering, formerly super dedicated Lowe's guy with probably 100+ trips under my belt. From the second I walked in, the customer service was on point. Multiple employees checked in with me without me having to go find anybody. There was even a greeter up front talking about one of their services, but it wasn't pushy. Just solid, professional interaction. Here's what really did it for me. I came in looking for a zero gravity chair. Asked about it out in the outdoor section and at first it looked like they didn't have it. No big deal, I was already moving on. Instead, my man took the time to check again, scan deeper, realized there might be some in another section, then came and found me. Didn't point. Didn't wave me off. Came and got me and said "hey brother, follow me, I think we've got it," and walked me straight to it. That follow through is what separates good from great. I had three different employees engage with me during that visit and I didn't have to chase a single one of them down. I've had plenty of good experiences at Lowe's, but I can count on one hand the number of times I've had that level of proactive help. Most of the time you're trying to find somebody, and even when you do it's not their department or they're not sure. Today, Home Depot took a clear step ahead for me. Aside from them giving me the chair for free, I couldn't have asked for anything more.

People on phone site were friendly and helpful, plenty of stones to choose from in a variety of patterns and colors. There was some confusion over whether an item marked "sold" actually was (spoiler alert: it wasn't) so make sure to ask if you like a particular one even if it's marked (especially given the stone deliveries come infrequently). Brian and the installer crew were punctual, friendly, careful and meticulous (as was the initial measurement and selection of stone sections for the parts of the kitchen for best effect). Clearly these guys knew what they were doing, and it showed. That said we are a detail-oriented house and noticed (over time) some small issues (a small seam that needed some revision as well as a stain left by a silicone drain mat (advice: don't use them if you have white stone)). Suffice to say Brian returned three times, listened, was friendly and made the needed changes. The company really stands behind their work which is both rare and very appreciated. Our sincere thanks to Brian and the team at BU--we are very happy with our countertops and backsplashes and have received many positive comments on both the materials and workmanship. We highly recommend them for your countertop needs.
