I stopped here on a Monday afternoon around 4pm for the primary reason of getting something to drink. When you first walk into the right there is a seating area along with 4 kiosk to place food orders. I did not see anyone in the food preparation area, however. Along the wall to the left was beverage stations where there was coffee, fountain drinks, and slushies. The trashcan must have been full because I saw a cup hanging out of the hole where trash goes. I notice a bag of dominion sugar sitting in front of the container labeled fresh brude tea. Along the right wall in the front was the cashier area. In between the walls were the aisles for the snacks. The bottled drinks coolers are located along the right side just before the restrooms. They have a beer cave that's directly in the back. I decided to go to the restroom too. It wasn't dirty, but it wasn't clean either. There were paper towels on the sink. In the larger stall, there was A baby change station. There was also toilet paper all over the floor by next to the toilet. Neither of the two stalls had toilet paper in them. I'm glad I didn't have to poop, because I would've been S.O.L.... There were two urinals that was clean, one of which are used. The soap dispenser had soap in it and the air dryer work. I ended up getting to Arizona teas, which was two for $4. There was a line when I walked in, however by the time I browsed and chose my drink there was no wait. The cashier was super friendly and I noticed that she was multitasking by doing something with what I assume to be the change dispenser. Overall, the store itself was clean. There was a PNC bank ATM and a lottery vending machine. The men's restroom definitely needed some TLC and to be restocked.

Oh hindsight, you deviant delinquent you. From the overly slanted lines of the side parking to the top 40 hits resonating from the acoustically refined speakers, I should've known something was wonderfully amiss. I browsed the aisles one by one, each end cap serving as an expertly crafted forward to the aisles classic novel. Canned foods galore, prophylactics perfectly positioned, and Holiday sundries plentiful, I began to fear my bank account, unlike my enthusiasm would soon be drained. Whilst holding back tears, I placed nearly all of my selections back on their respective shelves. Hoping that I, a mere customer would be able to re-display them as impeccably as they once were by the stock boys. Nay, stock artisans. As my journey throughout this store that humbly refers to itself as "general" drew to a close, I had selected one item that I deemed worthy of absolutely draining my Swiss bank account. A candle with the branding of "Truly Living", so fine that simple glass itself couldn't contain it. Made of iron cast by the finest smiths in all of Mebane. The wax contained in this vessel was high maintenance to be sure, but what set it apart from the herd was that it knew it's worth. Yes, this was an absolute vixen of a candle, a siren of scent. Flaunting its alluring smell contained in a miniature cast iron skillet, this seemingly innocent mold of wax knew what it was doing to me. Even as a man of very discerning taste, I can't deny, I liked it. Fast forward, it's just past sundown. Mere hours after I had fatefully exited the haven known as "Dollar General", I lit the candle. How bold I was to set fire to this masterpiece, would you set fire to an original Picasso? No, no, you haven't the gall to do such a thing, but I'm no ordinary being. Perhaps this is the dilemma the artist intended. Create a piece of art that appears as though it's to be set on fire, but sculpting it so beautifully you would never dare. Clever indeed, my sweet, sweet anonymous candle maker. I accepted that dare. As soon as the wick caught fire, my heart was also set ablaze. The smell of apple cinnamon pushed absolutely all feelings aside, save for bliss. For the first time in my life I was truly living. So suddenly I, as all mortal beings inevitably do, had to enter a slumber. Oh yes, how I yearned for the sweet sand of the night man to be blown into my sight receptacles. Bitter reluctance reared it's ugly head with its insistence of safety, I knew what must be done. With the gust of a thousand winds, I blew out the oh so unfortunately mortal flame. As if a volcano covering the isles of Hawaii in scorching lava, wax encrusted the finish of my coffee table. My heart then became as dark as the room the candle had once lit and yet another unremovable stain was added to my soul. The wax has now all but faded, but as an angel unseen, is all around me.

I never knew…read moreHaw River, a town which is located in Alamance County, existed until stopping to get gas here. It's named after the nearby Haw River which you cross over when riding on I-40/I-85. This Pilot is located just off the aforementioned interstate, exit 150. It's roughly halfway between the Triad and the Triangle. Pilot and Flying J Travel Centers (same company) are more like truck stops and comparable to Love's Travel Stops, as opposed to QuikTrip and Sheetz stores, with convenience stores that offer much more than just refreshments. Oftentimes, fast food and other chain restaurants will be on-site. In the case of this Pilot, there's a Dairy Queen and Wendy's attached to the store. Across the street, there's a Flying J with a Denny's connected to it. I just stopped to fill up on gas on my way to Chapel Hill from High Point. The gas station at this Pilot has eight pumps. I used pump #4 and it was in good condition, from the screens to the handle to the buttons. The paper towel dispenser was stocked and my paper receipt printed out clearly. The price of the gas (premium) was not as good as the prices I paid immediately preceding this fill-up at places like the Costco in Durham, QTs in Georgia and South Carolina, and a Kroger in Georgia. Compared to those places, the price for premium gas here was anywhere from $0.13 to $0.39 higher per gallon. At the same time, I didn't feel that the price was unreasonable, just more on the pricey side. I'd stop here again if I had to. This is Pilot store #6955.

Well, I am still angry about the affront to good taste levied by them against the entire southern United States when they took away fresh brewed tea, and put "Gold Peak" in its place. Since that happened, I visit Sheetz about 10% as much as I used to, because the ability to stop in for a fresh tea in my travels was so nice. McDonald's has since scooped up the honor of my quickie tea, and probably that of others. This has cost Sheetz more than just the price of a tea... it has led to less fill-ups, snacks, everything. I hope they will reconsider. And honestly... Gold Peak? It's entire name is an antonym. Anyway, rant over. Other than my personal vendetta, this new design Sheetz has employed is fantastic. It all makes sense. The cafe area being near where you order, and also where you'd stop for a quick sit to eat. The counters for food and coffee both look very attractive. The staff here is new, but very pleasant as they get used to their new jobs. There is a beer cave at this location, and of course the requisite walls of canned and bottle bevvies. Plenty of snacks for your taste, lots of coffee, and the aforementioned "made to order" food items. On this day, it was a strange time of day, and I had not had a thing to eat. I didn't want to totally spoil dinner a few hours later, so I wanted a cheap snacky value meal thing. Their hot dog combo is very plain, but reliable. It now comes with two (very small, but not quite mini) hot dogs, 5 chicky nuggies because they do that now, and a very small fry... plus a fountain beverage. That's a deal at 5 bucks but you dont get to customize anything. You'll get mustard and ketchup on the hot dog like a child, sorry if you like anything else. No customization. The food was hot and fast, and tasted decent, which is absolutely the ceiling of my expectations here. This location is very near my house, and I would visit much more often if SHEETZ WOULD BRING BACK FRESH BREWED TEA.
