It's…read moreone of those spots that locals kind of want to keep to themselves but end up telling all their friends about anyway. It's tucked into this little complex that honestly just keeps getting better: you've got Hippo for dinner, Triple Beam for casual pizza, Go Get Em Tiger for coffee, and Kitchen Mouse just around the corner. The vibe is relaxed but thoughtful -- kind of like the shop itself. The wine selection here is so good. It's not just the usual suspects -- they've got bottles you probably haven't seen before, but everything feels really well-picked, never pretentious. Prices? Super fair. And on top of that, there's sake, craft beer, spirits, and even some great non-alcoholic options for your dry Jan that actually feel exciting. It's clear someone put a lot of care into building this place. Also, shoutout to the team -- every single staff is warm, helpful, and actually seems stoked to help you find something you'll love. That energy makes such a difference. And yeah -- there's even a parking lot, which in Highland Park? That alone is a win. Before you leave, do not forget to check the fridge. If there's a chilled bottle of Meinklang Mulatschak in there, grab it. Trust me. Take it to a pool day or a park hang -- it's the kind of wine that tastes even better in the sun, and you're gonna be glad you brought it. Cheers!

It's a little undiscovered, which is always so special, particularly in Highland Park. You can bring your Triple Beam Pizza from next door, and enjoy the generous pours. Being literally a block away, Eagle Rock Market & Liquor is peak convenience for those last-minute "oh crap, I need this now" moments--whether it's snacks, drinks, basic household items, or a spontaneous lotto ticket when the jackpot hits yet another casual billion dollars (which somehow feels weirdly normal these days). Shoutout to the Latino gentleman who's almost always working when I come in--he's genuinely kind, polite, and welcoming every time. Customer service like that deserves recognition, especially amid all the grumpy internet commentary. Since my first review, the store has stayed clean and well-stocked, which to me says solid management and pride in the business. Just my two cents--but I'm always happy to support a local, small neighborhood spot that does exactly what it's supposed to do, and does it well.

LET LOOSE THE JOOSE!…read more Aw, this little liquor store was a gift from heaven when it happened to be on the walking tour of York Blvd's famous taco trucks/stands. Nothing like brown bagging it when you're walking from taco stop to taco stop eating the finest in street food. Of course you have to have the finest in street drink. After the much appreciated Galco's sodas ended the thirst still thrived. One too many Al Pastor and Asada tacos in my mouth needed to be washed down. Dan's was a perfect spot to pick up more joose. And by joose I mean Dragon Joose. The drink too classy to actually spell Juice correctly. For all of you folks who miss Sparks, this stuff is for you.. Not to mention that it comes in a wide variety of flavors. All the purple food coloring in it and more! Who doesn't want high energy purple colored sugar malt liquor water? I dare ask! I got myself a classic Ol' English 800. Yes, nothing beats it.. well, besides Billy Dee's Colt 45, but I was mixing it up, especially since they didn't have St. Ides or Schlitz. The store doesn't stop at being a good place to buy cheap beer, they have a lot of strange odds and ends. I smelled some interesting hair gel that.. well, it almost smelled good to eat. No, I wasn't drunk yet. It brought up a good point, how does Dan or any other shitty small liquor store come up with the set list of things they will sell that don't relate to something a drunken wino would buy to forget all their troubles in life? Well either way, the store clerk rung up the malt liquor and even gave up brown bags. You know it's classy when you can brown bag it and not have any problems getting a brown bag from the store. Most places don't carry brown bags because they don't want to encourage the wino to just walk outside and drink in front of their place. Clearly Dan doesn't mind. The prices were decent and the worker greeted us with a smile. In retrospect, maybe he was laughing on the inside that a couple of people were buying Dragon Jooooooose and other alcoholic beverages that he's not used to seeing them drink. Good service, good location along york and if it wasn't for Galco's across the street, I probably wouldn't have remembered Dan's, but since it's there and it served a purpose after a much taco filled night, it was perfect for the moment.

Glad I did as I now declare Mission as my official neighborhood fine spiritsl dealer. When you first walk in, you'll notice that it looks a lot bigger than the outside and it's super clean and neat. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more spotless, organized establishment. Everything is pretty easy to find, and there's a lot to choose from, even a few things I couldn't find from the other two big spirit franchisers. And they don't only just sell alcohol, but they have a large, enclosed area for expensive cigars. Price-wise, I think it's about average. Some bottles I was looking for were a little over than what I've seen, and some others were just a bit under. So if you're looking for a real bargain here, probably not. But you will find some hard-to-find bottles here for sure. I will note that this is probably not a beginner-friendly store. There really isn't anyone around to ask questions, save for the folks working the counter - and they're all business it seems. It's more of a self-service spot for sure. Other than that, it's a good place to browse and check out. Happy hunting!
