York Square Liquors It's very Highland Park! They have a great selection of snacks, eats, drinks and all the little big liquor store things you'd expect, hope to find and desire. The parking is fairly easy with their shared plaza lot off York Blvd between Avenue 63 and Avenue 64, directly next to The OffBear Bar/Nightclub. On a very hot day I popped in for some beverages to hydrate. Everything was well stocked and easy to find and the guy on duty was friendly. Really impressed with the craft brew, spirits and wine here, they definitely know their local customers as well as passers through. It's rough around the edges, but keeps it's local charm. See a lot of discrepancies regarding service, pricing and other unique circumstances. I'm only been in here a handful of times so can't speak to any of it. Sorry, lost two customers today. I stepped on a big piece of glass outside the store so I picked it up in order to throw it away, but could not see a trashcan so I asked the guy behind the counter to throw it away for me, letting him know I had planned on buying stuff as well. Big hairy dude. He took it from me and then he said don't do that again the next time you see it just leave it there. And I said what? He said it again and said he doesn't like to touch dirty things. I saw paper towels right on the counter and mentioned he could've just used a paper towel and he replied just don't do it again. Then he said, how can I help you? Haha. I said I'm good thanks and I left and I won't be returning and neither will my husband. This is community buddy and you're not acting like you care. read more

If you're into craft beer this place is your mecca. I stopped in because a friend asked me to see if they carried Hamm's beer. The refrigerator section is filled with rows upon rows of craft beer from independent breweries in addition to beer from major companies. After spending about 5 minutes browsing, I didn't see what I was looking for, so I asked the lady behind the counter is they carried Hamm's. She directed me right to it. (It was on the very top shelf above my eye level.) About a week later the same friend asked me to see if they carried Broken Skull American Lager from El Segundo Brewing Co. Sure enough, they did. They also have a wide selection of RTD cocktails in single serve cans in addition to your standard liquor store finds. read more

You really should fire that Samoan looking dude who can't even comb his hair and looks like he just rolled out of bed and went to his liquor store cashier job. He's angry and rude. Just left this store right now and will not be returning. Unsure if he was talking about us or another customer, but while my partner and I were picking out beer he had to audacity to complain that it takes either us or the customer in question too long to pick out pick and that we/or they were alcoholics that come a lot. This is a spot we have been to on different occasions but we aren't coming everyday or week for that matter. Whether he was talking about us or another customer either way it was terribly rude and unprofessional. Thanks to this employee we were never return here again. You've just lost customers and business. This is a local liquor store next to a bar so guess what people will buy alcohol. There are all kinds of people that come in and you can't judge or make assumptions about your customers especially out loud for that matter. I have only had positive experiences here. Especially with the hazel-eyed sweetheart who has the courage to serve Highland Park locals significantly later than neighboring marts (which close early to avoid mayhem--as well they should). My guess is that if you come in and act like an asshole, you will be treated like an asshole. Paying for service or product doesn't mean you get to abuse the provider. Most negative reviews seem to come from chronic negative reviewers. From their tone, I imagine the rest were probably already-drunk numbnuts. Don't like the prices? Go somewhere else... Oh wait, you can't, because no one else in this neighborhood wants to put up with your bullshit. What's more, tonight the fellow behind me asked for a 5-pack of swishers. Hazel Eyes happily offered, We don't have the 5-pack but I'll give you 5 singles for the same price. Try getting that response down at the 7-11 on Avenue 52. God bless them for having an incredible selection, ample parking, and friendly staff--did I mention the Hazel-Eyed sweetheart? God bless Him most of all (if what they say is true) for not tolerating bullies and thugs. That's exactly what makes me feel safe going here at any time of night. Service Was fine until I walked back in the liquor store with the same drink I had just bought 10 min prior and I went and got one more tell me why was I charger for 2 when I told him I was just in here I paid for one already and I was like you just sold it to me I mean like I had the receipt in my hand and mind you I didn't even know they double charged me because they didn't even tell me before I went home I called my card and that when I found out I went right back and that when they were like you didn't say your walking in with a drink I didn't think I had to the dude had just sold it to me they said they have to check the cameras I was like check them then they said they couldn't because they don't do that they have to wait for the owner they said come bk later I went back yesterday night so they are still telling me that they have not check the cameras and I'm ass out like there nothing they can do so i have to wait for there mistake very unhappy on how the situation is being handled read more

For a semi-rundown liquor store, the beer selection here is phenomenal. It's the ONLY reason why I go to this place, and this review is based 100% on the beer selection. Like other reviews on Yelp have pointed out, you do have to pay attention to what you are being charged for. Many of the items for sale have no price on them, and I've been charged different amounts for buying the exact same thing on different days. Another thing they don't tell you about is if you pay with a credit or debit card, they add an additional service charge to your bill without telling you. read more

Yes they have a vast, fun, interesting assortment of wines, beers and other spirits, but these people are big time cheaters. They count on their customers being drunk or careless with their money. Price tags on items will read one thing but upon being rung up, you will find that everything is $2-3 more than what they claimed. And when you call then out on it, they play the fool. I don't know how this place has only two reviews. Bought an Amsterdam liquor bottle and I think someone tampered with the liquor. I've had a lot of vodka and this vodka had something wrong with it. Walk in to buy two beers, (I never pay with card, but was missing 1.25 to complete my transaction) so I used my brand new card, I received a fraud alert from my bank the I had some suspicious transactions, and guess what, they were!!!!! I'm not sure if it's come under new ownership or if the owners are simply executing a drastic change in strategy, but this place has been utterly transformed over the past year. And that's saying a lot when it comes to liquor stores. I used to come here for two reasons only: 1) it's close and 2) they had an entire fridge dedicated to tall-boys (I enjoyed compulsively spending a grand total of $32 to buy ALL of them just to imagine for a night that I had the largest private collection of tall boys in Los Angeles as I slurped and slipped into a slurred babbling expressionist fantasy). There are still only two reasons that I come to this place. My two new reasons, however, are much more compelling: 1) the owners have a whole WALL OF FRIDGES dedicated to craft beer including labels you've never seen before and 4-pack and 6-packs of cans you've normally only seen in the bottle, and 2) these guys really, really care. Every time I've come in looking for something that they don't carry, they've asked me for the product's name and written it down so they can check it out on their own in case its worth sourcing. They seem genuinely proud of their collection and genuinely pleased to help you find something you love. Depth of variety is something I've encountered before in liquor stores (Hi-Time, Mission etc), but I can't say I've ever seen it accompanied by such an earnest concern for customer satisfaction. You get the sense that they want to carry any product that's good, and that they're serving some grander vision to be crowned "most well-stocked specialty liquor store in town," a title they've no doubt already claimed when you consider the competition. And best of all, they're open late enough to accommodate a reasonably late-night urge to booze -- a risk the store's former incarnation didn't care to run. read more

I've been coming here for a few years now. Usually picking up something to drink after picking up food from the same strip mall. Always on good terms with the help. A few weeks ago I pulled into a spot in front of the liquor store and headed to the Mexican restaurant to pick up my food before buying my beverage. This new guy comes out of York Square and orders me to move my car. Even after explaining that I was next coming back to purchase from him he yelled at me that he would have me towed. Well the Rite-Aid across the street got my money that day. Then a couple weeks ago the family that I come to visit tried to do the same thing. They've been shopping there for years, but this new guy is rude, and threatens to cut off my friends long dreadlocks. He BANNED this entire family from ever buying anything from the store. I don't know who this new help is, but the guy is a douche and has lost the money of four people and given it to a chain store. read more
