It's a pedestrian & bike bridge that was designed by Olafur Eliasson with the region's maritime history in mind. Initially, it looks like it could be a tall ship in the harbor from a distance. It turns into something completely different as you get close to it. It has 5 massive circular masts with platforms that are interwoven to form a bridge. It's definitely very unique. I imagine it looks even more spectacular from above. The residences and offices in the restored brick shipyard buildings of Christiansbro have a great view of it.
The bridge swivels open at the middle ring to allow taller boats to pass through from the canal to the harbor. There were many joggers and bicyclists when crossing the bridge. Most likely preparing for the annual Copenhagen Marathon. We were just passing through on the way to the Long Bridge (Langesbro) from Christianshavn. It ended up being the perfect route to take on our way to our walking tour meeting point in Rådhuspladsen. It was a beautiful & memorable walk along the harbor. read more
