OWCP took advantage of my lack of knowledge for the process, and turned down my claims citing technicalities, failure to establish various conclusions, and repeatedly sidestepping the evidence. They clearly did not care about the truth of the issue, and I began to understand that the directive OCWP gave their reviewers (with the exception of one fine fellow who unfortunately was not reviewing my case) was to try to deny claims as much as possible. It was infuriating, and anyone that has dealt with OWCP probably understands what I'm talking about. How can an honest person with an honest work accident and complete documentation be denied so stubbornly? I was at my wits' end, until I decided to do a East-Coast-wide search for a lawyer. Of the ones that turned up, I found Mr. Kalker, who was kind, caring, patient, and entirely effective. Within two months, Mr. Kalker coordinated the effort, rewrote my claim, and won my case. He explained to me why my claim had been rejected, and very sadly I realized that OWCP had been rejecting my claim because they knew I didn't know my legal options to fight back and damage them, so they saw me as a non-threat; it seems my story is pretty common among injury applicants. Very few times in my life has a stranger made such an incredible difference, and Mr. Kalker counts among the blessings I've been lucky enough to have. While he is quite a busy guy, I never felt like a number; he treated my case with respect and dedication, and was patient with my frayed emotions. I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Kalker. He was kind and honest to me about my injury situation and my chances of getting an approved claim, which was a breath of fresh air after dealing with OCWP. Joe is warm, personable and my husband and I have always really liked him. In 2017 however we received a notification from the IRS that we owed money dating back to 2015. Joe stated that he wanted to submit more documentation to IRS and helped us draft letters to challenge these claims. I requested my W2S again and we resubmitted. Joe also advised us to file an extension on our 2017 taxes, lest the IRS garnish our return to pay our debts. Now it is 2018 and interest charges have skyrocketed my charges. The investigation into my debts either never took place, or were unsuccessful. All the advice Joe gave me was completely incorrect. I am especially disappointed in Joe because he has lied to and manipulated my husband who is not business savvy, and truly believed that Joe was our friend. I am in the process of buying another home, and all this confusion could certainly jeopardize our financial future. He has been laxadasical, careless, and downright irresponsible. I feel I should have dealt with the IRS directly. I was completely misguided by this guy. And I will likely be audited for years to come due to his incompetence. I still don't fully understand what transpired due to his incessant double talk. I definitely would not recommend him.
