The front desk lady is rude and unprofessional. The instructor is not good at explaining the rules or give you clear instructions. He is also very unprofessional . He even left the car in the middle of the class to talk with his contractor ( I saw other review mentioned the same issue too) or left before the class end. Not worth the money at all. read more

I'm so thankful for this school. I am a 31 year old female who's had a permit twice before and failed the driver's road test twice. This third time I passed! Thanks to this school. Michelle the receptionist was very clear and directly to the point when making the schedule and everything went smoothly in that area. Ru was my driving instructor and I appreciate his help and guidance so much. He was very calm, kind, and quiet which was helpful to me. He only had to explain a few things where I made mistakes. But then I got the hang of it. On the last day of practice he took me on a test run of what to expect when it was time to actually take the road test at the DMV. And I practiced three times before the real thing. That calmed my nerves and made me feel prepared. If you are a student with limited funds for learning to drive, the Citizen Driving Center is a good option. I started my driving lessons with Mike, who turned out to be a disrespectful and mean instructor. Every time I made a mistake, he demotivated and mistreated me in various ways. He shouted at me when I failed my first attempt and would mock me in a sarcastic manner and told me i have ruined his reputation. After each session, I felt so demoralized that I struggled to concentrate on my regular activities. I believe he has serious issues with his behavior as an instructor and could benefit from some treatment. However, when I switched to Ben, everything changed. After just seven lessons, I passed my driving test. Ben is understanding and polite, and he genuinely guided me to drive safely. I am giving this school a rating of 3 stars, solely because of Ben. read more

My daughter signed up with instructor Ben. He is the worst instructor there and I've sent my other kids to other instructors who are much better. Ben is always late to pick up for the training, but also drops my daughter off back home earlier than he should meaning she is not getting the allotted practice time during trainings. On the day of the driving test, he told my daughter to meet him at the driving school while he is picking up another student at that student's home. After the driving test, instead of dropping off my daughter at home, he dropped her off at the driving school and makes her walked 6 blocks home at 90 degree temperature despite no other instructor doing this for my other kids. On the website, it states that it provides free pick up and drop off if you live within 1.5 miles radius. My house is on the route to the expressway that leads to the range there and back. There is absolutely 0 reason why she needs to be dropped off back at the driving school and not at home. He is extremely unprofessional and rude. Stay away from Ben. Worse of the worse. read more

I highly recommend Citizen Driving School and Instructor Mike to anyone who wants to learn safe driving. This is a rare business that genuinely cares about students' success and safety, beyond just passing the test. I got my driver's license today on my first attempt, and it took me only two weeks to complete the course. I went from being a complete beginner to a safe driver. Mike and Michelle were amazing support throughout my journey, and I felt so thankful to them that I cried after receiving my license. I had been too scared to drive for 10 years, and without Citizen Driving School, I would never have been able to become this confident and safe driver in such a short amount of time. Mike is the instructor you can trust, and if you follow his instructions, you WILL become a safe and confident driver. He is extremely detailed and experienced, watching and correcting every maneuver you need to make, unlike some of my previous experiences with other schools where the instructors just sat next to me in silence. Because driving is dangerous and just one mistake can cause serious injury or death, Mike will be tough on you to ensure you don't get into an accident. Just like parents who are harsh with their children when it comes to safety, he will show tough love, but in the end, you will know that he is a rare gem who actually cares and remembers the progress of every single student he has had. I feel so thankful that I had the opportunity to learn from Mike, and he laid the foundation for my safe driving. Michelle was supportive not only in administrative matters but also in encouraging and believing in me. I was extremely nervous, but she always told me I could do it and not to worry, providing many tips about the exam. She is an expert in scheduling and managing--she doesn't just schedule anything but strategically helps you plan your journey so that you learn driving in the most efficient timeline. I am really surprised by a couple of negative reviews. This business deals with safety, so they don't babysit you but will show tough love, all to ensure you don't get into an accident. Instructor 4 Mike is horrible. If you want a homophobic, rude, condescending, belittling, yelling and aggressive instructorthen go with Mike (instructor 4). I LEARNED NOTHING FROM MIKE. He said he is friends with the owner which is how he got the job. His style is not tought love, he is just a bad teacher and should not drive. While he drove us to the starting point at Comisky Park, he almost hit a pedestrian, ran through a stop sign and braked so hard at a red light we almost slammed into the dashboard. Once I got into the Prius in the parking area, he says "fix your side mirrors", failing to give me direction as to what I should focus the mirrors on. He forgot to tell me how to adjust the rear view mirror until I asked. When we started driving, he proceeded to yell at me while grabbing the steering wheel at one point and basically double parked us on MLK Drive with cars approaching behind us. He was aggressive and rude and proceeded to tell me that I "do not know anything and I better learn from him." I wanted to take the steering wheel back (he told me dont touch the steering wheel but hit the gas pedal) but he told me that he can drive and proceeded to steer the car from the passenger side for 2 blocks! Mike repeatedly told me that "You better not tell my husband how I teach you because you will be divorced" and then says "you're afraid and can't worry about other drivers and buses just drive." Mike constantly said that I was "not able to drive and needed him to become better." I signed up for driving lessons to be taught not told I know nothing and be yelled at by a horrible instructor. He even called bicyclist a FAGGOT when we were stopped at a red light. I was so offended and caught off guard. I told all my friends to NEVER BOOK WITH MIKE AT CITIZENS DRIVING. Mike also kept telling me "you're so lucky to have me teaching you, because the other instructors are bad and cannot speak English and he is always booked so I'm lucky." Please train Mike to actually teach! No wonder they don't have names available for the instructors online. I'm sure anyone he gets is random because that's how I ended up with him. read more

Citizens was the worst experience ever the old man Mike I was assigned to work with was very nasty and unprofessional. They only care about the money. It's a waste of money. I bought the package C, but the coach never finished teaching all the courses within the stipulated 8 hours, and kept asking me to add lessons, which is very irresponsible! Called Michelle, she said that their coaches will keep cheating money like this, if I don't want to register for classes, she can only refund me the road test fee, and then calculate my driving time at $45 an hour, but they Single car training costs $85 per 2 hours! Just like that, they cheated me another 20 dollars! Chinese please stay away! Would not recommend to anyone! Disgusting place! read more

I just got my license. I started out with virtually no experience in driving. They assigned me Michael as an instructor. He is amazing. He started built my confidence from the ground out and also taught me really well. This guy will make sure to work on any repaying mistakes with you and will stick by you. He is also really funny, and he will tell you about your mistakes and how to fix them. I could not have done it without him being consistent with his teachings. If you want to learn how to drive, especially if you are a beginner, Michael is the guy you want and this is the best place and the price is good. read more

Passed the DMV road test and received my drivers license after 6 hours of lessons from this school. They provide pickup and dropoff if you are near the school. Mike (instructor 4) is a great instructor and will equip you with the skills needed to succeed on the road. Highly recommend this driving school 5 stars. read more

I got my license thanks to them. I wanted to get my license before the year ended but was very nervous. My instructor was mike and he was thankfully understanding of my high anxiety. It took about 7 classes, I got the adult package (I'm 23) and I am completely satisfied. They take you to to your test and you have the option to practice the route for a bit before going in. The car you use from beginning to end is always the same which is helpful -as well. Would definitely recommend coming here! read more

Decided to go to a driving school because I needed someone who can teach me about how to drive. Some people know how to drive, but teaching someone how to drive is different story. I had another instructor as first and he was trying his best to communicate with me. Nonetheless, I chose Mike to teach me for the rest of my lessons because I needed someone who can fluently speak English, so then I can focus on learning how drive on the road without having to process and translate what the instructor said to me in my head. Mike is a great instructor! He is stern and will point out what I did wrong, but that's only because I did something wrong. Then he will go over the parts you did wrong and have you do then again. For example, if I make a left turn and it was horrible because I went to far out, then on the next intersection he will make me do a left turn again. He will make conversation here and there in the car which is a good thing for me because personally for me staying in a car for 2 hours straight and just listening to feedbacks and feeling nervous for being out on the road is exhausting. In addition, Michelle who works at the front desk is really nice. Which I appreciate because I didn't want to start out my lesson day with someone with an attitude, especially because I start off and still is a "nervous wreck". During the day of the road test, I was really nervous. Ever since my road test was schedule, I was thinking every possible ways and "what ifs" on failing. But then, he'll let you know that you ARE going to be nervous when waiting, but out in the road all that nervousness is gone which is true. And so I pass my road test on the first try, and in a few weeks I'll come back to learn on how to drive on the expressway. read more
