Cannot recommend Ride Chicago enough! My very precious boy has wanted to ride a bike for years. At 18 yrs old we finally relented. I don't doubt his skill as he's an excellent car driver. I do doubt all the crazies on the road! And I want my kiddo to last until old man adulthood! So I wanted him to have as much practice as possible from people who truly care. Freddie saw Jay for riding skills / lessons for the last couple of weeks and wow! Not only is my boy hooked but I have a deeper respect for these guys that take their time to take the students seriously. As a Mum who wants her kiddo riding as safe as possible, I thought nothing of multiple lessons and of course the onsite licensing class. Alden in the office was brilliant at working out the scheduling that worked with our crazy calendar and we now have a fully licensed rider who sailed through the test with zero marks taken off. My son will have a break for the winter and I will once again see if Jay can give him a refresher in the late Spring before the season really starts to give my kiddo every success to enjoy his riding! An essential, and excellent, experience for first-time and experienced riders alike. I've always wanted to ride a motorcycle, but never felt quite ready to pull the trigger. After a year of sneaking rides on my wife's scooter, the time was finally right. Get your permit and sign up for a class at Ride. They'll start you out with the absolute basis, and take you through two, five hour days after which you'll feel confident in being able to pass the state test (another service they provide). I'll be heading back down to take that test soon, and am looking forward to starting my journey on two wheels, and almost certainly taking their intermediate class down the line. If you're lucky enough to get Jay and Paco, you'll be in good hands. They're each incredibly knowledgeable, excellent teachers with two very different styles, something I personally loved. You never have the opportunity to get too frustrated or anxious because you know you're in good hands and you're constantly building on skills you've learned in previous lessons. Today was my first day at Ride Chicago for my Basic Motorcycle Licensing Class, and it was AWESOME! I had great time. This was my first time EVER riding a motorcycle. I learned a lot today, and had an enjoyable time learning. With this being my first time riding, I had some hiccups, but I overcame them. The instructor, Kevin was patient, very knowledgeable, he explained the "Why's" of motorcycling. He made sure we understood what he was trying to convey. He demonstrated for us so we saw what could happen if we didn't follow the proper way of riding. He's a great instructor. I now know why Ride Chicago gets such great reviews. I told a guy about them today, and he's going to sign up. It's worth every scent. Learning from friends and family, just isn't the same education, or information that's received. You should definitely take a class from Ride Chicago if you are thinking about riding a scooter or motorcycle. We wanted to be comfortable on a scooter (and properly licensed) before our trip to Bali. I am really glad we went this route. We were knew we wanted our class M license because we wanted scooters over 150 cc displacement and you need an M class for your international scooter license. We were unsure if we needed to take the motorcycle class or the scooter class to do this but called and found out the scooter class will provide us with an M class. We were also faced with the fact that we don't have a scooter to practice on or take a test on. Going through Ride Chicago helped us with both these things. Sign up was simple on their website. We then had to take the written test at the DMV to obtain our permit and bring it to the 1st class. We showed up and were provided with a helmet and gloves. Tim checked us in and was our instructor for the day. You could tell that he was passionate about riding motorcycles/scooters and balanced it well with teaching proper riding safety. It was a blast learning and riding for 5 hours. It was rather warm and since we had to wear jeans and long sleeve shirts, they gave us lots of breaks to keep us hydrated and cool in the "lounge" (which are plastic chairs under a tree). The instructors were great at giving personal instructions and encouragement for each rider. The class was side by side with the motorcycle class. They did certain sections combined and a few sections separate. Once everyone is comfortable with turns, stops and weaves, he walked us through what 4 parts of the state test would look like. He had us practice a few times and then gave us some great pointers and tips. I honestly don't think I would have felt so confident taking the test without being able to try it a few times first. Since we didn't have a Scooter, we had to take the test with them on Wednesday because they provide you with a scooter to test on. Honestly, this is a way better experience than the DMV anyway. read more

I had a great experience getting training from the staff at ride Chicago. They were friendly and encouraging and made the process so easy! This newbie had limited experience so the detailed instructions and attention to detail was really appreciated. Regularly scheduled breaks give you a chance to talk with the other participants and take in the tasks at hand. The training is held not far from the united center with plenty of parking right out front. The equipment is in great condition and the helmets (supplied) are clean. Port-a-potty on site so no need to look for one. read more

My husband bought me the motorcycle lessons as a Christmas present, so I cannot comment on the price of the class, but it included a classroom portion (about 3 hours) and two 5 hour sessions on two consecutive days of riding lessons (at a different location) (we took our classes at the end of fall). Classroom: For the classroom portion, our instructor was Tim. He was very laid back, yet engaging, very knowledgeable, and actually pretty funny. I came into the whole process nervous as f***, and even told him that, but him and even the instructors that I had for the riding portion are all very nice and walk you through everything so that you're comfortable. Ride Training: As I've mentioned, the riding portion was on two separate days. The first day, our instructors were Steven (Stephen?) and Brad (or B-Rad, as Steven was calling him). On the second day, we had Steven again and Tim (the same as my classroom instructor!). The instructors all were awesome, just trust in them and listen to their instruction. They really know what they're talking about and their method of teaching was very effective. Training Facility: There are two locations (I believe), but I was at the location by the United Center. Parking was super easy and free. I was able to take my riding test at the same location as the riding class, so I felt comfortable with the testing spot since we had practiced there before. Ride Chicago is a phenomenal outfit that does a great job with beginner instruction. Kevin and Paco were super fun to hang out with for two days, and made the time fly by while ensuring we were safe and had a ton of time to ride. I really can't say how important it is to keep the energy up, and both Kevin and Paco bring so much passion and excitement for motorcycling that it's pretty hard to get bored when in their company. Not only did I feel like they were super professional, thorough, and serious about riding, they also gave a ton of 1 on 1 attention and really care about the students. I started on day 1 not having a clue about clutching and foot braking, and by the time I got on the bike on day 2 I was able to ride pretty well. By the end of day 2 I felt ready for the DMV test. I wouldn't go anywhere else for riding lessons, and Kevin and Paco will be the first people I call with any questions once I'm up on 2 wheels of my own. So, I just wrapped my day 2 of training with Ride Chicago and can't say enough positive things about my experience. Kevin & Tim were our class instructors and immediately brought everyone together and made everyone feel like they had know them for years. They are charismatic, funny and extremely knowledgeable as it relates to riding. Kevin & Tim are extremely patient and thorough and take you through the basics in addition to preparing each student for the motorcycle license exam. I didn't have to take this class, but am very glad I invested in it.
