So when a friend calls you up and asks, "Hey, you want to get some nuts?" you don't ask questions…read more You just get in the car and head straight to Alabama Peanut Co. Walking in, you're hit with the smell of brine and beer in the absolute best way possible. The vibe is simple and homey: check out the menu board, pick your peanuts, grab a beer, and sit back in anticipation. Since I couldn't make up my mind, I went with the sampler plate. The second I bit into the collard green brine peanut, it literally burst with flavor. I'm officially a changed woman and fully convinced boiled peanuts are the ultimate Alabama snack. My only tiny heads-up: the brine tasting station is a awesome idea, but a quick warning sign like "Careful with these bottles!" would be a lifesaver--I definitely managed to splash a bit on myself! Bottom line? The service was wonderful, the peanuts were incredible, and I'll definitely be dragging the rest of my friends back to this unique Birmingham gem.

I also think that this is a great place to just grab some peanuts, a cold beer or drink, and relax. The service is always so pleasant, and it is just a fun and relaxing atmosphere. My last visit, I went with my sister on a Saturday night while we were downtown, and we had such a good time. I will definitely have this as one of my regular casual hangout spots, as I always have the best time when I stop in. Their peanuts are also very tasty, and they have a super wide variety of choices. I love this place.

But we'd spent the day at McWane Center and we were starving so we were there to EAT! The food looked gorgeous but it tasted very meh. The onion rings had too much breading on them, which I didn't think was possible, but here we are. The part of the breading next to the onion was mushy so that threw off the texture of the whole thing too. The burger was very much like a Whataburger. Even the lettuce smelled the same. I got The Standard and the bun of the burger was a little mushy (similar to Whataburger) and there was not much meat. For an $11 burger, I'm expecting more than a Whataburger. My middle kid likes everything on her burger and isn't picky at all and the loaded kid burger looked impressive but it was about the same as mine. Not awful, but not very good either. Very close to the same amount of meat. She's the queen of the Clean Plate Club and she only ate half. The fries were good but a somewhat too salty, the dip that came with the onion rings was excellent and we ended up using it for the fries. We had 2 adults and 3 kids and our meal was $63 before tip for 5 waters, 2 adult burgers, 2 kid burgers, a kid grilled cheese, and a basket of fries and onion rings (I thought I was ordering a "side" of fries, not realizing I actually ordered a basket and it was a lot of fries and onion rings). We don't mind spending money on good food, but the prices here don't align with what you get. No one was more disappointed than me, I've been wanting to eat here for FOREVER!!!

All of their products are handmade in small batches. This is certainly some of the highest quality chocolate I've had, and it's a bonus since it's a small, locally owned business. The inside of the store is super small but they have a lot of options. It's a tad expensive BUTTT I'm willing to splurge since it's a small business that only sells high quality items. They also have samples out (at least for each time I've visited). And they et me take a pin for free since I made a purchase!

Phenomenal dining experience!!…read more Service was top notch from the hostess and host, our waiter and all of the runners. Attentive without being obnoxious, in depth explanations of items on the menu with great recommendations! We started with a half dozen raw oysters and the pork belly. Oysters were very fresh and the seasoned crackers were a nice touch. The pork belly was quite possibly the best we've ever had and we're slight snobs about it. The fennel and orange mixture was a unique blend that really complemented the smokiness of the pork belly, Our steaks were melt in your mouth good. Cooked perfectly! I wished I could've just taken a massive bowl of the macaroni and cheese home. The char on the broccolini balanced the richness of the macaroni. They were sadly out of the crème brûlée, so instead I had the vanilla and peach gelato, while my husband had the chocolate l'orange cake. The vanilla gelato had the perfect rich vanilla taste. The peach didn't taste much like peach, but the flavor was still good. The cake was light and fluffy with a great balance of chocolate and orange. The candied orange peel on top was a nice touch! The atmosphere is pretty busy so it was louder than I was expecting. However, the ability to see the wine cellar, fridge of aging meat, and a window to stop in to look at the kitchen was a lot of fun. Highly recommend!

The lady who owns the place has done a fantastic job at curating a remarkable selection of things that you're going to want to try. The vibes are cozy and the decor interesting. The price points span a good range so there's something for everyone. Definitely check out the wine specials. I picked up a dozen assorted bottles to fill up a wine rack that had gone empty, and I was able to do that for what turned out to be less than expected. Will definitely be returning once I need to do that again. Aside from the interesting selection of bottles and the friendly vibes, it's also cool to see new and quirky businesses popping up in areas that are undergoing a revitalization. You love to see it. Long story short this is a very cool spot that you should make it a point to visit. Take the wine lover in your life and let them marvel at the unique selection. Check out the wide array of gins in the bathtub up front. Spend some time browsing the shelves and you might find something you didn't expect to find. Great spot. Local owner. Cool vibes. She is basically a librarian of beverages. Her knowledge runs deep and she genuinely knows the story, flavor profile, and use for just about every bottle in the shop. Conversations here feel natural and educational, not salesy. A quick heads up for anyone not from Alabama, the state government makes things messy when it comes to alcohol taxes and pricing. That is not on Lenell. She clearly does her best to keep prices reasonable, but the regulations and taxes make it challenging. Knowing that, the value is still there when you look at the quality and uniqueness of the selection. And the selection is what really stands out. It is curated, thoughtful, and downright impressive. I was able to pick up several bottles I have never seen before anywhere else. This is not a grab a bottle and leave type of store. This is a browse, ask questions, discover something new kind of place. If you enjoy unique spirits, interesting bottles, and talking to someone who truly knows their craft, Lenell's is absolutely worth the visit. I am really glad I stopped in and would not hesitate to come back next time I am in Birmingham.
