Lenell's Beverage Boutique is a small, quaint shop tucked away in north Birmingham and it is exactly the kind of place I love stumbling into. Lenell herself is incredible to talk to. She is basically a librarian of beverages. Her knowledge runs deep and she genuinely knows the story, flavor profile, and use for just about every bottle in the shop. Conversations here feel natural and educational, not salesy. A quick heads up for anyone not from Alabama, the state government makes things messy when it comes to alcohol taxes and pricing. That is not on Lenell. She clearly does her best to keep prices reasonable, but the regulations and taxes make it challenging. Knowing that, the value is still there when you look at the quality and uniqueness of the selection. And the selection is what really stands out. It is curated, thoughtful, and downright impressive. I was able to pick up several bottles I have never seen before anywhere else. This is not a grab a bottle and leave type of store. This is a browse, ask questions, discover something new kind of place. If you enjoy unique spirits, interesting bottles, and talking to someone who truly knows their craft, Lenell's is absolutely worth the visit. Kind of feeling a little embarrassed that I hadn't stopped into this place until now. They've been open for a while and I'd seen some reviews and a few articles but hadn't made it by to see for myself. Well now I have and I can tell you that it's amazing. The lady who owns the place has done a fantastic job at curating a remarkable selection of things that you're going to want to try. The vibes are cozy and the decor interesting. The price points span a good range so there's something for everyone. Definitely check out the wine specials. I picked up a dozen assorted bottles to fill up a wine rack that had gone empty, and I was able to do that for what turned out to be less than expected. Will definitely be returning once I need to do that again. Aside from the interesting selection of bottles and the friendly vibes, it's also cool to see new and quirky businesses popping up in areas that are undergoing a revitalization. You love to see it. Long story short this is a very cool spot that you should make it a point to visit. Take the wine lover in your life and let them marvel at the unique selection. LeNell's has an incredible selection of unique liquors, wines, non-alcoholic options, and mixers. I got an orange wine that was so delicious. I asked LeNell herself if it was good and she said "I wouldn't sell anything I wouldn't drink myself." SOLD! The claw-foot gin tub, tile flooring, gorgeous wood cabinets, and sharply designed product labels make being inside LeNell's a fun experience. There is so much to LOOK AT! Not to mention, LeNell is a big personality that fills the space with an air of community that's hard to find these days. Everything inside is very fairly priced as well. You can easily buy a bottle of wine for under $20 and the liquor selection seems like standard pricing to me. My husband found this little gem on google and when we went through their Facebook page, we noticed Miss LeNell herself had a store pick Old Forrester. I called right away on December 23 and bought two bottles over the phone. So on Christmas Eve we came to pick up and I'm so happy we did!! The store was quaint but has so many amazing options. I want to say pieces because everything looks like art!! Miss LeNell was even there and talked to us for a good 10 minutes and even took a picture with me!! She said she's hoping to open her cafe/bar next door within 2 years. We are only in the area once a year but this place will be my top destination every time. LeNell's is where you go when you need a very specific liqueur, type of bitters or a large selection of mocktail ingredients. A lot of their stuff tends to be on the high side for pricing but man, if you need it in a pinch, they probably have it or can recommend a great substitute. Was passing through Nashville and needed to pick up a bottle of rum. They seemed to have a selection of about 10-20 brands, only 1 I was familiar with. As the name implies, they specialize in boutique brands you probably can't get elsewhere. I picked up one - turns out not to my liking but it was worth a try. This is a small shop in a residential area with few nearby commercial businesses, located convenient to I65 north of the city. Oh LeNell!! This was the cutest little beverage boutique on this side of the Mississippi River. Not sure if that is saying, but hey I used it. I had never heard of a beverage boutique until this place and I am so glad that I did. It's nestled in the community of Norwood in small building located next to a large vintage building that will be converted to a restaurant. I can't wait for that!! The owner was super sweet and so knowledgeable. She gave us a sample of Damiana. It's a liqueur made from the Damiana plant in Mexico. It is a light tequila with a very smooth sweet, mellow, woody flavor. It's great to try products before you purchase them. Did I forget to mention that there is an old fashioned bath tub filled with alcohol. And a beverage cooler that can cool a bottle of wine in 5 minutes. I mean Wow!! There are so many spirits that I had a time choosing what to buy. I can see myself becoming a frequent customer. I returned to purchase the Damiana that was sampled. Hannah was SSSOOO helpful. LeNell was extremely helpful as my wife and I stopped in to shop for my brother in-law with high dollar wine taste. She was very thorough and helped by explaining the unique stock that she keep on hand along with supporting sustainable and organic wine makers not stocked in the big box stores. I've been shopping at LeNell's since not long after they opened. I am a Liquor Fanatic and Avid Hunter. LeNell's is in a super neat little building a short distance from downtown Birmingham. I started shopping at LeNells for the harder to find things that I have trouble locating in the Birmingham area. Due to Alabama Laws LeNells is a little bit more expensive than a standard ABC store, but that was ok due to the hard to find Items that they had. Fast Forward to 2020. Then Covid happened. The past few times I have been into the store they have not had as many hard to find bottles as before. It's been a pretty standard selection of bottles. However, the prices have risen dramatically. It use to be a 20-50% Mark up. The last time I went in, I was seeing bottles marked up over 100%. I could kind of see that for very rare items, however, not on somewhat readily accessible items. Hopefully after covid passes, prices will be able to come back down. Even if you don't buy anything I do suggest walking around the store. It is a fun experience to see. LeNell's does offer a lot of free tastings fairly frequently. So add that to the list of positives. read more

Y'all, LeNell's is KILLING it and I am here for it. I first visited this beverage boutique to check out a tasting that I came across on Facebook. It's not far from downtown, located on the outskirts of Norwood near I-20. The building itself is very nice with a vintage twist unique to the owner. They have a varied selection of wines and spirits with a few beers, mixers and other accompaniments. They even have a system for special requests. The staff is absolutely delightful and are happy to answer any question you may have. I once spent 30 minutes talking about rum and what works well with what which I really appreciate. They have a few tastings a week that are always free. I love this aspect as I've had the chance to try lots of things I wouldn't have otherwise and really grown my bar because of that. But the thing to really love about LeNell's is their advocacy for the community. This business not only talks the talk but walks the walk. They are always going back to the community and trying to be a solution to its problems rather than adding to them. read more

Lol I've been for two tasting so far, the Cathead Pecan Vodka, which is so amazing I had to re-up after my guests emptied it, and for the Campesino Rum. I purchased the Aged, it has a nice smoky vanilla note and goes well with gingerale and lime. Overall LeNell's is the perfect place to go for signature drink ingredients and off the path booze. If you are an ardent supporter of women owned businesses, you must drive to the Norwood neighborhood of Birmingham and come here.
