Casts can be made in a variety of materials from Fibreglass, Glass Reinforced Cement (GFRC), Hard-Coated Urethane Foam and Cold Cast Bronze. New pieces are being created all the time. It's an easy walk from downtown and right next to the main train station, so it's great to spend a lunch or incorporate into exploring the city. At the entrance there are restrooms and water stations, plus maps of the different areas. The entrance areas are all sculpted flower gardens, as you walk around there are more forested areas, jungle, and ponds. We were there at a great time of the year, it wasn't so hot and everything was in bloom. There are ibis and lizards everywhere too! They really care about the maintenance of this area as landscapers were hard at work as well. There's information about the plants all over too. This would be a great place to relax, take a date, or explore with kids.

All free with amazing entertainment and educational presentations. Good food, too. Children's play areas, benches along the river to be able to just sit, talk, watch the river traffic and wildlife. You can board the free ferry boats to other areas of Brisbane from here. Swim from the beaches, or walk through the beautiful gardens. Or, take a nap on the expansive, warm grass . . . . . Christmas lighting etc. is indescribable. You should try a 'warm weather' Christmas and New Year start.

You'll spend some money if you go to one of the nearby eateries, for sure, or on parking if you drive, but the place itself is free and open. Split bike and pedestrian walkways and ample transit access make this area a frequent stop for commuters and tourists, and numerous attractions abound nearby, but here's the really good news: it's in Brisbane. Brisbane is not that crowded. So, unlike some of the public parks and water-based attractions in the really major cities (sorry, Brisbanites), you can actually find some space here, even during peak hours in the summer. The only reason not to come is if you've run out of sunscreen.

What's so great about this place? It has a killer bike path. It has a killer rollerskating path, it has a killer rollerblading path. Not many hills (thumbs up for this one) as well! It's the perfect place to learn, which is why they have people who hire skates and blades out on the top end of the path and teach people how to in droves. I love that this pathway can start from the top of Southbank when you cross the pedestrian bridge from the city and ends at the Story Bridge end or QUT for that matter over the Goodwill Bridge you go (warning, bit of a long uphill climb but you go down again!). It's one of the first places I got my rollerblades and learnt how. It's one of the first places I got my rollerskate on (for you roller derby people this is ideal for practicing) and besides the occassional bike passing you, the path is smooth, hardly any bumps, all good for minimising falling down. I won't lie, I have fallen a few times though (only when I was learning ahem ahem). It's great exercise, you can bring the family and rockclimb on the cliffs, bring a mate? You can run up the stairs from the bike path to the top of the cliffs (burn those calories) and it is a fantastic place to watch the fireworks from. Barbeque it up here, skate it up, it doesn't matter, they have paddle skis as well. Yelp! So you can park your car, ride your bike, rollerblade, rollerskate, climb a rock face and paddle ski then sit down and do a barbeque all in the one spot. Totally my fav.

This is just a short walk from our hotel, so I strolled around it twice yesterday's Once after…read morelunch by myself and then again after dinner with my husband. It was much busier during the day, which surprised me somewhat. Beautiful foliage, beautiful birds, next to the river, lots of benches and places to take a break. It is well maintained. At night, the main paths were lit well, although the path right next to the river was very dark. If I lived in Brisbane, I would go here often just to relax, read, or enjoy the beauty. And it's completely free to enjoy!

King Edward Park is one of my favourite little parks in Brisbane. I have occasion to pass through…read morehere often because part of my family lives across the road and so I often detour through the park when I'm travelling between the city and the fam. It strikes me as the underdog of parks. It's small, steep, and often-overlooked. To me it's quite a special-feeling place, tucked next door to the Tower Mill and hidden underneath large fig trees. There are numerous secluded benches, a big chess checkerboard, and a windy path for those not inclined to tackle Jacob's Ladder. The trees and grass are allowed to become a little overgrown which I like. A perfectly manicured landscape is overrated in my opinion. Jacob's Ladder provides a handy shortcut from the top of the park to the bottom, but it's not for the cardiovascularly challenged. I often see personal training groups running up and down those stairs and boy do I admire them. The steps were painted rainbow last year which looked awesome, but now they're all red. There are light projections at night that decorate the stairs. There's just something about this park. I love it.

Since its construction in the 1940s as an air raid shelter during WWII, King Edward Park has…read morereceived numerous facelifts and restorations, and the site is still constantly changing. At one stage the park was yarn-bombed, messily so, but for a few weeks the shelters and surrounding trees were sheathed in knitting. A month ago, there was a crew of youngsters practicing parkour on the steep, rainbow-coloured staircase that's since been painted over in red. And before the Brisbane floods, my brother and I found a tawny frogmouth sitting on the staircase that we believed was injured but was actually just resting in the rain. The bird attacked and took flight. These days, a few homeless people call the shelters home. This isn't the kind of park where events are held, but there's always something to see and watch. There's also enough places in the park where you can disappear if you're feeling a little overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of the city. The park does its best to create the illusion you've entered a forest disconnected from the city; it's an odd little place, located smack bang between Spring Hill and the CBD, but it's not without its charms. You'll find a collection of sculptures dotted around the park that are just waiting to be discovered. It would be a cute location to have wedding photos done if you're after something quirky. There's even a giant chessboard that you can use if you bring along some friends to battle it out, Harry Potter style.

But during the day, it's got the best little kids playground, there are people walking tightropes, flogging themselves doing bootcamps and it's a great little park in general when festivals aren't making use of it. It is the stomping ground of Paniyiri and other markets as well on weekends. I really like this park because of it's location and atmosphere - but not at night.

Musgrave Park is home to many a festive event, the most memorable of which is probably the annual…read morePanyiri Festival hosted by The Greek Club across the road. There is also a cultural centre on the grounds of the park to celebrate to indigenous community of Brisbane. I have been to both Panyiri and a NAIDOC week celebration in Musgrave Park and it has been a fantastic venue for both. There is plenty of shade in Musgrave Park as well as open grass, perfect for a game of cricket or football game. One downside of this park is that it can be a bit dangerous at night, so if you're around that area at night I'd walk around the perimeter rather than through it.
