The studio seems to be plagued by chronic maintenance issues though. Twice in the last few months the restrooms have been out of order when I had class. The first time they e-mailed people signed up for class in advance, which I appreciated, so I could make sure I stopped somewhere on the way to use the restroom. But the most recent time I didn't realize until I arrived for class. At that point it was too late to run out and find a restroom elsewhere. It must have been a water issue, because the water fountain was also out of order. The front desk was handing out bottled water, but I would have rather had a head's up ahead of time to fill my bottle at home rather than using a disposable plastic bottle. A couple days later when I returned, the restrooms were available again, but the fountain was still out of order. There's also a handful of lockers that always have out of order signs on them. The worst though was that a bike I was on recently didn't fully work. The computer wouldn't connect - it just flashed zeros and then turned itself back off after a minute. After trying unsuccessfully to get it to work myself, I tried to flag down an attendant, but she didn't see me. At that point class was starting and I wasn't sure if I could use another bike or if I wanted to miss the first song getting set up elsewhere anyway. I could at least pedal and use the gears on the bike to ride through class, but I couldn't follow the instructor's cues on gears or RPMs without the working computer, which was frustrating. The growing list of maintenance issues just really detracts from the overall experience. And while they might not have a lot of control over building issues, they could at least give people the courtesy of a head's up before they arrive at the studio.

I recently started attending classes at Cycology 202 after signing up for a great "back-to-school"…read moreoffer --- $49 for two weeks of unlimited classes, and I've had a great experience so far. Located in the Glen Eagle shopping center (near the Gap, not far from Whole Foods), there is plenty of parking available. Upon walking inside, I've always been immediately greeted, checked in, and offered my size of cycling shoes (which are required to wear, so bring socks but don't worry about your sneakers). Without prompting, the instructors have recognized that I am new and offered help in setting up my bike to suit my size. There is bottled water available for purchase and they place towels at each bike station prior to class. They do not allow cell phones in the exercise rooms. Once everyone is set up, the instructor turns up the music and dims the light except for a few spotlights on the instructor, which feels like a club atmosphere. At times, especially when encouraging us to pedal as quickly as we can, they actually turn the light off entirely, which helps to keep your focus on yourself. They encourage you to pedal to the beat, then adding additional movements like push-ups, crunches, and arm weights while pedaling --- which is a real challenge and a great full body work-out. Classes can be reserved in advance via their website or their app, and you are able to reserve a specific bike (which was useful for attending class with a friend). The studio also offers barre and HIIT classes, but I have yet to try those.

My husband and I have been members for over a year and have enjoyed our experience. In summary-…read moregreat value for the area, everything you need in a gym. Classes aren't the best but can't blame them at the price point. COVID precautions have been sufficient to make me feel comfortable going in. 1. Price: we locked in a rate of $45/mo which is the most reasonable price in the area by far for what we need and want. We want access to weights, squat racks, etc. The really cheap gyms like planet fitness only have Smith machines which are not the same as squat racks, so you really cannot compare those prices. We have walked in and out of gyms when touring in the past for not having basic squat racks. Other gyms in the area are very "boutique" and/or emphasize personal training and for that reason the prices are way more expensive. We don't need or want that. 2. Classes: I tried a few classes before the pandemic and they were not my favorite. But read comment on price. I'm willing to sacrifice classes for access to good gym equipment for a good price. I tried spin once and it was very boring. Couldn't really hear the instructor and she didn't take the time to make sure everyone was on the same page, ask if there were any beginners needing help with bike set up, etc. Tried a couple other classes pre-pandemic and they were meh. 3. Equipment: Cardio: There are about a million treadmills and ellipticals. I've never seen the cardio area even close to half full. Weight room: When I first joined it felt like there were never enough dumbbells but they seem to have improved that and I haven't had a problem since. It's a small and tight space. Prior to COVID, there were definitely times where I felt like I was in the way/there was not enough room at peak gym times but otherwise fine. There are only two squat racks but there always seems to be one available when you need it. 4. Space: Again, plenty of space for cardio. Crowded weight lifting area that can feel intimidating if you are new to weight lifting or like me, a woman who is usually the only woman in the weight room. There's a big room upstairs that's used for classes and any time there isn't a class you can just work out in there. The room has mats, and dumbbells on the lighter side. 5. Covid precautions: They shut down when the pandemic started and immediately stopped billing customers, which I really appreciate. I know it had to be very hard on their business. Now that gyms are free to open, they have time slots which you can sign up for but I am always able to just show up because the time slots are never full. They clean in between time slots and limit capacity. They check temperatures at the door and everyone must wear a mask. I've found that the gym goers are respectful and haven't seen any bad apples not complying. Unless you're going at peak time (5pm or maybe morning sessions, but I've never been to one of those), the gym is nowhere near capacity and so there is plenty of space. At the 5pm session they do fill up. 6. Miscellaneous: This is something very small (or big depending on your beliefs) but there are signs that say stuff like "if you're reading this you're not working hard enough". I personally think that kind of gym mentality is not positive and not welcoming to all fitness levels and even harmful to people who may struggle with body dysmorphia or disordered eating. Words matter and I just wanted to put this out there for management's consideration of being inclusive to different levels of fitness, workout styles, etc.

I had never tried the Spin shoes before and they have them available for free to use to clients. The girl at the front desk was very helpful and showed me how to use them since it was my first time. First class was free which was also nice. And they have childcare. Couldn't ask for more! I wish this gym was closer to me as I only have Crunch HV near me and they only have a couple RIDE classes a week whereas this one has 3 a day (they also have Barre and TRX). They had ~25 bikes in the class. I liked that they had it dark, especially during intense moments. It does have black lights so if you wear white or neon, you will glow. Pricing: $18/class; 3 classes $16/class; 5 classes $15/class; 10 classes $14/class; $115 monthly unlimited or $99 if do recurring. Happy I found this spot and can't wait to try more instructors!

Btw - Check online for specials. I was able to get a 10pack (10 classes) for an end of Summer deal - $100. It's Definitely worth it. My group fitness journey started in 2007 with studio cycling at a gym when I was new to fitness and looking for structure, coaching, and a team atmosphere. Nearly twenty years later, I still love this aspect of SoulCycle--it keeps me coming back. What I appreciate most is the inclusivity. Whether you're a total beginner or in peak shape, you'll find a space here. The Philly studio is no exception--it is clean, welcoming, well-run, and has convenient private showers. The staff is always friendly, and the overall vibe is positive and energetic. Every instructor brings their own style, music, and energy, so no two classes feel the same. I also like the low-weight, high-rep arm section, which adds a nice balance to the workout. But more than anything, I value the ability to disconnect, clear my head, and escape the constant noise of the digital world. The dark studio creates the perfect environment to focus, reset, and get lost in the rhythm of the ride. It's one of the few places I can fully unplug and be present. In Philly, Lauren, Bryant, and Wonder are my go-to instructors. Their classes are appropriately challenging, always fun, and tastefully curated. If you're looking for a great workout with good music and a positive atmosphere, SoulCycle delivers. I'll keep coming back.

My daughter and I signed up for two trial classes in advance and then picked a 7 a.m. Breakfast Club class featuring One Direction. As soon as we walked in, the staff was so kind and even wished me a happy birthday. The amenities were explained and the instructor Jess came over to introduce herself and help us with our bikes. There was even a cute card on my bike to wish me a happy birthday. The class itself was busy but not overwhelmingly full. Overall, we had a good ride, and I absolutely loved the instructor and class community. At one point during a brief cool down, Jess even came over with a candle for me to blow out and mentioned my birthday to the class. Then, at the end, two members of the staff came out with another candle which I again blew out. It was much appreciated! My only cons were the loud music (and I love loud music), which made it hard to comprehend the directions at times as they sounded garbled, and the overly darkened room. Although I like a slightly darkened room, it was sometimes difficult to see what I was supposed to do. However, the staff made it a fun start to my birthday!
