Spinning in a dark, loud room that could be mistaken for a club is not for me apparently. With it being extremely difficult to hear the instructor and little to no instruction provided other than "we spin to the beat of the music", I didn't find it very welcoming to beginners. While not for me, I encourage you to decide for yourself as it was a packed house for a fitness center! Pros included a killer music mix. I basically made up my own work out because I couldn't hear the directions over the music and while I could look around everyone appeared to be doing something different. The time on the bike flew by as well. Speaking of the bike, I've spun before and know good equipment when I use it. The shower facilities were also top notch. Cons include what I mentioned already. I come to a class to learn from an instructor, and hate not being able to follow along. I'm used to be lost or confused a bit, but I was on my own the entire class. I can use a stationary bike at another gym with my own music selection for much cheaper. I could embrace the DJ experience if the room wasn't kept pitch black 80% of the time. Also, sweat alone does not equal a good workout and the room was kept hot. I don't need the ac blasting but some cool circulation is appropriate.

My friend and I are on a SoulCycle high. We tried our first $20 class 2 weeks ago with Bryant and we were not disappointed. This was my first cycling/spinning class ever. As a huge fan of fitness and trying out different ways to get my sweat on, SoulCycling is towards the top of my "favorite forms of cardio" list. When we walked into our class, we were met with a small candle lit room. Not to mention -- wall shaking music. During the 1 hour session, you get a whole music blasting cycling journey that is more than just doing cardio. It's so fun you actually forget you're working out! The class instructor guides you through a mentally exhilarating (and challenging) workout which includes pumping your legs vigorously on the cycle while pushing yourself to increase the bike's resistance as well as do movements such as push ups & crunches to activate other muscles in the body. For the most part you're giving it your all during this entire session, but then again, it's up to you how much effort you put in. After our first class and feeling like jello for days, we were determined to come back to redeem ourselves. My first class I took a good amount of breaks and definitely could've pushed myself more. The following week, we opted to buy the $60 for 3 classes package (this does not include cycle shoe rentals) . And again, the 1 hour SoulCycle class challenged me physically & calmed me mentally. If you're looking for a FUN way to burn calories for that summer body or just to get your cardiovascular system working better, I would say give SoulCycling a shot! One star knocked off for the pricing, but of course you're paying for what you get for. Tips for first timers: 1) Get there early!!! You will definitely need help with setting up these cycles before the class starts. 2) Bring a bottle of water (preferably a bigger sized one) 3) Give it your all! If you don't you're probably going to feel like you didn't get your money's worth

Soulcycle has become my escape from work life and personal life. I tried this out almost a year ago and it has been the best decision! I haven't been as consistent as I want cause of life, but I'm currently now going two times a week and hope to go more! I ride with Ryan, Nikola, and Denita and I absolutely love each one of them! Every instructor brings their own swagger to their class and they are all great for that reason. The workout is hard, definitely when finding the right rhythms. But instructors always encourage riders to take it at their own pace. I recommend Soulcycle to everyone. The class is 30 bucks but I have found that to be a pretty average price for fitness classes in the city. This is definitely my favorite workout in the city and will continue to be my weekly escape!

Can't take pics inside the studio, so this is the view of the general area coming out of the bike room. There's also an upstairs.

The studio seems to be plagued by chronic maintenance issues though. Twice in the last few months the restrooms have been out of order when I had class. The first time they e-mailed people signed up for class in advance, which I appreciated, so I could make sure I stopped somewhere on the way to use the restroom. But the most recent time I didn't realize until I arrived for class. At that point it was too late to run out and find a restroom elsewhere. It must have been a water issue, because the water fountain was also out of order. The front desk was handing out bottled water, but I would have rather had a head's up ahead of time to fill my bottle at home rather than using a disposable plastic bottle. A couple days later when I returned, the restrooms were available again, but the fountain was still out of order. There's also a handful of lockers that always have out of order signs on them. The worst though was that a bike I was on recently didn't fully work. The computer wouldn't connect - it just flashed zeros and then turned itself back off after a minute. After trying unsuccessfully to get it to work myself, I tried to flag down an attendant, but she didn't see me. At that point class was starting and I wasn't sure if I could use another bike or if I wanted to miss the first song getting set up elsewhere anyway. I could at least pedal and use the gears on the bike to ride through class, but I couldn't follow the instructor's cues on gears or RPMs without the working computer, which was frustrating. The growing list of maintenance issues just really detracts from the overall experience. And while they might not have a lot of control over building issues, they could at least give people the courtesy of a head's up before they arrive at the studio.

My daughter and I signed up for two trial classes in advance and then picked a 7 a.m. Breakfast Club class featuring One Direction. As soon as we walked in, the staff was so kind and even wished me a happy birthday. The amenities were explained and the instructor Jess came over to introduce herself and help us with our bikes. There was even a cute card on my bike to wish me a happy birthday. The class itself was busy but not overwhelmingly full. Overall, we had a good ride, and I absolutely loved the instructor and class community. At one point during a brief cool down, Jess even came over with a candle for me to blow out and mentioned my birthday to the class. Then, at the end, two members of the staff came out with another candle which I again blew out. It was much appreciated! My only cons were the loud music (and I love loud music), which made it hard to comprehend the directions at times as they sounded garbled, and the overly darkened room. Although I like a slightly darkened room, it was sometimes difficult to see what I was supposed to do. However, the staff made it a fun start to my birthday!

As someone who's gone to this gym from time to time, there are a few pros & cons that I will list…read moreout in detail to help you better understand as to whether or not this gym is for you! Pros: The gym has a LARGE amount of amenities. There are two basketball courts (which are also used for pickleball), an indoor lap pool with hot tubs, an outdoor swimming area with slides (at an extra charge). There are classes, a ton of different machines for both cardio and lifting, and a really clean and upscale atmosphere. People tend to mind their own business and the staff have on average been helpful, at least in my experience. There is also a kids "daycare" if that's what you call it. A lot of parents will use this so they can have time to work out and actually work. There's a little area right next to the cafe that has tables and outlets. I see a lot of people with MacBooks doing work. They probably work remotely. Who knows. Cons: The price point for this gym is definitely the highest of them all coming in at $220.00 a month per person. IF you are married or you can prove cohabitation, you can add an additional person on your account for around $100 a month. This gym definitely has a crowd that is very gymcentric. This isn't a bad thing. But some people who are looking for a more chill or less intimidating atmosphere may think twice. I was one of these people until I decided to just not care. But that's easier said than done. The gym can be exceptionally crowded at peak hours. So if you plan on going daily I'd do my very best to avoid late afternoons on weekdays and nights on weekends. I was hoping the bathroom situation would be a little better but, there seems to be 2 bathrooms for ladies and men of course (from what I've seen). And with the amount of people there sometimes, it can be a little bit hectic. The locker room is fine and the showers are just average. At the price point of $220.00 I was expecting some futuristic pod shower than also does your taxes but, we all can't have what we want. The outside swimming area is an additional monthly charge, by the way. Conclusion: So take it or leave it. The price point is HIGH, but there are a lot more amenities and options for machines than any other gym out there. Is that justified? I don't really know. So three stars. Until they have a robot that does my taxes, then it might go to 4.

Honestly, it seemed insanely crowded with the usual suspect machine hogs and the perma-tanned preening that you can enjoy for free on South Beach. Located in the Glen Eagle shopping center (near the Gap, not far from Whole Foods), there is plenty of parking available. Upon walking inside, I've always been immediately greeted, checked in, and offered my size of cycling shoes (which are required to wear, so bring socks but don't worry about your sneakers). Without prompting, the instructors have recognized that I am new and offered help in setting up my bike to suit my size. There is bottled water available for purchase and they place towels at each bike station prior to class. They do not allow cell phones in the exercise rooms. Once everyone is set up, the instructor turns up the music and dims the light except for a few spotlights on the instructor, which feels like a club atmosphere. At times, especially when encouraging us to pedal as quickly as we can, they actually turn the light off entirely, which helps to keep your focus on yourself. They encourage you to pedal to the beat, then adding additional movements like push-ups, crunches, and arm weights while pedaling --- which is a real challenge and a great full body work-out. Classes can be reserved in advance via their website or their app, and you are able to reserve a specific bike (which was useful for attending class with a friend). The studio also offers barre and HIIT classes, but I have yet to try those.
