CityLodge is a budget line of hotels, and thus we knew what we were getting - bare bones service, free wifi, no breakfast.

What was not alright: paper-thin walls, dirty and damp carpeting, lumpy beds, and no way to ventilate (or escape in the event of a fire!).
The building is a 17th century hunting lodge, and thus a registered site. This means, the owner has to follow certain protocol when it comes to construction. One of the consequences is that the windows are very costly to replace should anything happen. Thus, the owner placed a piece of glass over the window sill and window.
