Highly recommend taking a trip out to the small unique town. There's plenty very large things check out like a giant mail box or a rocking chair. Some solid restaurants are available as well but they do seem to close early. People are friendly and more than willing to take a photo of you standing in front of a giant taco. read more

Big fun! - - - - - - - - September, 2024 Visit We learned of Casey, IL, several years ago in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch article sharing how Casey is home to many of the world's largest items; at the time of the article, the total was 8 items; the total is now up to 12 of the world's largest items. This year we visited for a third time and it gets better each trip! Casey is pronounced Kay-zee, and Jim Bolin grew up there and is the person responsible for starting the world's largest items; the wind chimes were first, then the golf tee, and now several items. This visit we saw: 1. World's Largest Teeter Totter 2. World's Largest Wind Chime (first item) - we rang it 3. World's Largest Barber Shop Pole 4. World's Largest Mailbox 5. World's Largest Rocking Chair We also saw some big things that are not the world's largest: 1. Ruler 2. Pencil 3. Knitting Needles 4. Nails Twisted Around Each Other Puzzle 5. Antlers At the world's largest mailbox, we were happy to see that the ice cream shop was still open, and we all enjoyed two scoops: - Salted Caramel and Superman - Salted Caramel and Mint chocolate Chip - Salted Caramel, 2 - Zanzibar Dark Chocolate and Strawberry Very good! We saw the poem "God Made a Farmer" and listened to the Paul Harvey rendition of that important poem, on YouTube as we drove through town. Small Town, Big Things. I was drawn to Casey to see their collection of the World's Largest things. I did stop in on a Sunday during off-season so I didn't find much open. I'm sure during the tourist season they have more going on, especially since it's just a couple of miles off I-70 between Terre Haute and Saint Louis. Lots of the World's Largest things here, including the World's Largest Mailbox, the World's Largest Rocking Chair, the World's Largest Golf Tee, the World's Largest Bird Cage and the World's Largest Barber Pole. There's so much more here and it's an easy hour or two of lazy walking the downtown area around the coffee shops, cafes and ice cream shops. Yep, it's a tourist draw for sure and that's all pretty awesome. Free parking on the street and on nearby lots. If you're passing through, don't miss it. If you're not passing through, make a detour. The City of Casey (population 3,000) is right on I-70 in southern Illinois and is the home to a collection of the "World's Largest" things. Most of the "thing" are clustered in and around downtown. Clustered near a small cafe are the World's largest rocking chair, wind chimes and tetter-totter. About a block away are the World's largest bird cage, mail box and pencil. And just around the corner is the candy shop with the World's largest wooden shoes. The final two objects are outside of the downtown area and are the World's largest golf tee and the World's largest pitch fork. While most of my state of Illinois doesn't have alot to look forward too, this city is doing something right! I was ecstatic when I learned about the existence of this town years ago and wanted to find an excuse to go and I was not disappointed With driving almost 4 hours away to visit. Besides all the free items to view and the opportunity to visit some local flavor. The city has strong religious roots which is great! The city is clean and the shops are incredible. You can explore the items and interact with them in about an hour and you can spend another hour finding the other ones. If you are looking for a small, quaint, quiet town to visit, this is it. It is the home of many, many World's Largest Things and the Largest Things located all around town. There are also some nice small snack shops as well as restaurants that are worth visiting. It is a great fun way to spend a day. read more

The Little Town That Made It Big...that is Casey, Illinois! And the motto here is..."Big Things in a Small Town"! Currently, Casey is home to the World's Largest Wind Chime, Rocking Chair, Teeter Totter, Wooden Shoes, Truck Key, Mailbox, Golf Tee, Pitchfork, Barbershop Pole, Golf Driver, and Swizzle Spoon. What started it all you may ask? Well, we asked that question too and the answer we got was: A guy by the name of Jim Bolin wanted to open a tea/coffee shop and he loved wind chimes...and he wanted to do something to draw people in and therefore he combined the two. From what I/we understand, the World's largest Wind Chimes came first along with his shop...the Whitling Whimsy Café (don't quote me--I just asked the question). Through time...locals, friends, and neighbors wanted him to do more and thus came items such as the teeter-totter and pitchfork to name a few. Aside from having some of the World's Largest items, there are things here that used to be the World's Largest and are now "Big". Moreover, there are plenty of "Big" things here in general. As of the time we visited there were the Big Antlers, Crochet Hook, Cactus, Glider Plane, Bookworm, Nail Puzzle, Pizza Slicer, Knitting Needles, Bat, Mouse Trap, Piggy Bank, Yardstick, Taco, Birdcage, Pencil, and Wooden Token. There is also a Spinning Top, but it was being repaired and no idea when it will be back on display. The Rocking Horse is inside a business that went out of business and therefore not available to the public at all. There is an Ear of Corn that was just missing and not where it was supposed to be according to the map and when we inquired about it...no one knew what happened to it. In addition to all of this big stuff, there are cute shops and eateries. Unfortunately, we went on a holiday and not much was open...sniffle. We were able to visit a few places though...yay...including the Whitling Whimsy! I would have thought most places would be open since folks like to get out on long weekends, but it's understandable I suppose. The town was packed full of people walking around to see the big things and I think it was a slight disappointment to most that a lot of things weren't open and in my opinion...a missed opportunity for the locals. If you find yourself passing through this area, I definitely recommend a stop. Be advised that depending on when you come through things may be closed though. The locals we did meet and had interaction with were super friendly and happy we were there. It's always nice to feel welcome anywhere you go. There is plenty of free parking in town. You can walk to most of the sites and they are well marked on signs...only a few items require a drive. If you like to collect tourist things like a T-shirt, spoon, magnet, etc...please note these things may not be available and/or hard to find. read more

We were planning our route home. I asked my DW if she would like to see the world's largest wind chimes. She said that would be great. Once we got there, wow there were so many world's largest everything. Rocking chair, barber pole, pencil, ruler, antlers, and many others. One of the coolest was the mailbox, there is even a place to mail a letter. If you are in the area, it is definitely a great place to stop. We felt like kids looking for all the treasures. read more

Casey, IL is worth the stop. Right on I70. We met the mayor the day we arrived and several very helpful residents. We came as the town has several Guinness world record items to see. Most are near a business so they market the businesses in the town. We had ice cream, candy, coffee, two great dinners and some fun shopping. Clearly worth the stop. The roadside attraction City of Casey is located just off Highway 70, about 35 miles between Effingham, IL & Terre Haute, IN. The city itself is about 3 miles off the highway and is home to several World's Largest attractions, most notably the World's Largest Rocking Chair, World's Largest Wind Chime, and the World Largest Golf Tee. Both the Rocking Chair & Wind Chime are located in downtown Casey, however the Golf Tee is located about a mile away at the local golf course. There is a small shop located next to the Wind Chime, which is also home to the World's Largest Knitting Needle (however I didn't step inside) Overall this is your typical roadside attraction town, and makes for a unique way to take a quick break while driving thru. read more
