It's a lot of fun. The bands are usually great & the vendors are pretty good! It's a fun place for a picnic, too.

Jazz in the park on Sunday is the best. Always a good line up. Bring your blanket a chair your dog and your own refreshments if you choose. Come early spots fill up fast. Take a ride on the lake. Food trucks available as well. I just love the outdoors read more

This is such a fun event!!' Everyone is out doing picnics, children playing, dogs are happy. There is lots of food trucks, lemonade stands, make up for kids etc. City provides portal bathrooms... only issue is you gotta park far as it's in Central Park and find a spot in the surrounding neighborhoods. Not only is this a great date idea because it is FREE, but because that means you can spend more money on buying picnic food... Like grilled smoked salmon or brie and bread with strawberries. Bring your picnic and your blanket, and plop a squat on the lawn and enjoy the free jazz and people watching. Best concert of the season and free. Yahooooo. "Tuxedo Junction" totally rocked last night at the Pavilion on City Park Lake. Big band songs, tributes to the Andrew Sisters, Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and more, all played while we danced our shoes off in front of a magnificent rainbow-highlighted sunset , a fountain light show, and a rockin' swing band. So fun! City Park is a picturesque setting for some great jazz in the summer. Lovers, friends, families - everyone comes out to enjoy Denver evenings. Most people bring food into the park, lay out the spread, and sit back and relax. If you don't bring in your own, fear not! The food trucks abound and I could resist getting a small serving of caramel ice cream from one of them. Delicious and perfect to top off a wonderful evening. Wow. The performers were awesome. The park is packed to the brim. There is free bicycle parking by the building facing the pond - how awesome is that? My ears were happy with the music. Standing room only, if you arrived late, like I did. It is totally worth coming earlier and settig up shop with some friends. The End. read more

I love this event! Free concerts each summer, ending the weekend on a wonderful note! Bring a blanket, bring some snacks, bring rain gear (it usually rains a bit depending on the sunday!) This is what summer in Denver is all about. Sure it is crowded... sure sometimes the music is not "jazzy" .... but this is always a good... wait... slash that... GREAT time. You are going to see the melting pot of Denver right here. We like to ride our bike down here and set up a picnic with each other or our friends. Bring pretty much ANYTHING u want! it gets bigger everytime I go! Nothing can compare! When I take friends here for the first time... they are hooked! I have been going to this for YEARS! : ) (my boyfriend was very impressed the first time I took him.... I totally got a kiss!!!) We went to every single one but one last year! FREE FUN! I LOVE DENVER! Also the new lights on the fountain will wanna make you take a stroll around the lake after the night wraps up... its GORGEOUS! Thank you Denver so much for doing events like this for us. This is the perfect way to wind down from the weekend before having to go back to the grind Monday morning. Bring your own picnic, whatever floats your boat. You can even roll up with a grill if you want to go all out, me, I prefer the cooler on wheels (why didn't I think of that) full of fruits, salads, cheese, bread, and dips. And of course, you have to have your bottle of wine. All spread out on a nice blanket with your folding chairs, and settle in for some great music. There are local food trucks if you don't want to lug your stuff across the park, which can be cumbersome. The Jazz in the Park series gets some of Denver's best musicians. Hazel Miller is always a big draw-she's a local legend! You can check out the website to see who is coming each week. Oh, and it's free! For the last several weeks, we have packed a picnic, the dogs, baby, and met up with friends for (something?) in the park. The kids love it, gleefully stomping all over the blankets, everyone is friendly, the spot is perfect as the sun sets through the trees. And why lie, there simply aren't enough excuses to tie one on Sunday nights. Oh yeah, and I think there's some ambient music? Yes, I think there is, it must be jazz... HIghly recommend for all ages. This is the second time I have gone to Jazz in the Park and it is so much fun! We were better prepared this time and took a cooler full of beer, food, blankets, entertainment & lots of friends. We showed up around 5 pm and go the perfect shady spot under the trees near the stage and stayed until 9:30. It's free, beautiful & relaxing! read more

What is better than hanging out in the park and listening to some jazz? This is a great even for families and groups. I would recommend getting there VERY early (1pm/2pm) to get the best seats (in the shade). The ONLY issue I have is that sometimes with the sheer amount of people who show up, it's hard to hear the music. I would like to see the event organizers put some PA speakers around the park so people can hear better without having to give up a good shady spot. They do have food trucks and places to buy water/beer, but it is definitely cheaper to bring your own foods. read more

Also, it's a big park so if you want to hear it, you have to sit pretty close. I expected something live and hopefully good. I don't really like the music very much, but I don't let that stop me from enjoying City Park Jazz a few times a year. I'm tone deaf and rhythm deficient, so I get a medical exemption from the almost-mandatory dancing on the lawn that goes on at the FREE concerts held Sundays throughout the summer. However, I can still enjoy the late afternoon sun and the beautiful sunset, the smell of good picnic food, the ease of finding a group to play really awful hackeysack with.... I think I am the world's worst hackeysack player. I'm better at frisbee, which is also played regularly before and during Jazz in the Park events. There are always cool people with dogs. Unfortunately most of them are with their dates, so don't expect to meet someone here, though you just might, if you loosen up and have some fun. read more

Holy crowded park, Batman! It's been ages since I attended City Park Jazz and then I could walk there from my apartment. Otherwise, parking is a complete hassle. As tempting as it might be to park in the park, I'd park outside of it to avoid any potential traffic snarl. My friend did have a suggestion for this event - rename it to City Park Music. Their outdoor music program covers a wide range of music and doesn't just stick to jazz. Of course, I'd prefer Wynton Marsalis' definition: "jazz is music that swings," but jazz has many definitions. read more

This was a 4 or 5 star experience, but the execution now that the crowds have grown is no longer an event I look forward too. I still go every once and a while when there's someone who catches my eye on the calendar, but Im constantly reminded why id rather go to band on the bricks in boulder or civic center park. The musical selections and food truck offerings are still good, but the noise from the much larger crowds have not been compensated for in the sound levels and unless you're right up front you can struggle to hear some instruments or song sections. Now, if you have the time and can get down to the park early enough to land a prime spot on the lawn up front, a different experience, but it eats a lot of your afternoon for that to happen. read more

I am now on year 2 of making it to these events most Sundays and I think that everyone else should pull out a blanket, some snack foods, beverage (not in glass), and hangout in the park. Event Schedule: 6-8pm every Sunday (June - September) Last year for a friend's Birthday of group of us decided to just head down a bit early setup some yard games, a friends, a canopy, and go! It was a nice little Sunday of drinking games that you would play in your backyard, and the BBQ to boot. Oh and did I mention that there are thousands of other people around? And food truck to get the taste of the burger you just grilled to death? Yup all of that, and a lot more. Take a look, why not it is free. read more

City Park Jazz starts earlier than the 6:00 concert for the husband and I. We sit on our front porch, sipping champagne and eating nibbles while we watch the droves of baby carriages, dogs on leashes, families, and the young lovers of our neighborhood parade past us to get the best spot near the bandstand. Then when we are properly fueled, we do our evening stroll around the lake while listening to the concert. We end our walk at the rose garden to watch sunset and all of our neighbors dancing to the music. It is peaceful and we share this with other couples like us, not in 100% social mood but want to enjoy Sunday evening City Park Jazz. We then make it back home to sit on the front porch and watch the parade in reverse. So perfect and the concert is free no matter how you experience it. read more
