I think I left a bit of my heart in this wee pub. My bestfriend was taking us on quite the tour of Manchester searching out all the old/no longer there sites where certain favourite bands of his once played, which lead us to the Hacienda. The Hacienda, unfortunately, no longer exists, but in it's place, stand a block of new flats. Directly across the street sits City Road Inn.
We wanted to find some place to go ASAP because the weather was less than enjoyable and we were all freezing. With loads of places to choose from, we decided upon this pub.
From the outside, it looks a wee bit like a murder house, but once you get in, it's quite warm, old fashioned and inviting. It was pretty empty when we first arrived, but no worries, the four of us were loud enough to make it seem like there were more people (three americans and a scot make for an interesting group).
We ordered drinks and to our dismay, they were out of a few things, but in the end, we ended up enjoying every drink we ordered (which ended up being about 6 rounds in total). There was a jukebox on the wall, which my bestfriend proceeded to feed mega pounds in to it and it ended up being a really great pregame to dinner and the rest of our night.
They serve food here, which smelled lovely. People were ordering meals left and right and it smelled like onion rings could have been on the menu. The staff we did encounter were lovely and inviting as well.
i think for reminiscence sake, we'll be back should we visit Manchester again. A great wee pub with loads of food and drink, a pool table, sport on the telly and a jukebox. What more could you ask for? read more
