I would give zero stars if I could. I brought in a leather jacket to be colored. The jacket had been ruined at a dry cleaner and they said they could paint it and repair some holes. When I came to pick the jacket up it was not done, so they did a rush job fixing the patches and it looks TERRIBLE. They colored patches and sewed them in and the stitching is all over the place, my 2 year old nephew could do have done better. The jacket is ruined because they glued the terrible patch work on. What they told me they were going to do fix the holes is not what they did. They made me pay upfront so they already had my money. They also gave me the jacket back and didn't bother polishing any of the buckles, so leather paint was all over those as well. I absolutely loved this jacket and am bummed out that someone who claims to handle leather would do such a bad job. read more

This little shoe repair shop has been on this corner in downtown Hickory for over 30 years, and yet I never went in until recently. I was very pleasantly surprised by the awesome service and very reasonable prices. I had a pair of new shoes that had one spot that hurt my foot, despite being stretched twice at the shoe store. I showed them to the owner, John, and he took them in the back and brought them out a minute later with the problem solved! And only charged me a few bucks. I highly recommend them! read more

They did a really beautiful job with my old cowboy boots that had been "rode hard and put up sweaty" - they not only soled and heeled them, as requested, but also cleaned and conditioned them. I had not expected that, and definitely appreciated it. My husband had a pair of boots where the stitching had ripped out; he'd previously been quoted $40 to fix the one boot, but City did it for $12. And they're super nice people, too. Today at 10:35 AM I brought my pair of well worn out Vintage Timberland ankle boots in as they were in need of repair. Stephanie helped me tremendously in knowing exactly what needed to be done to them. I was shown the new sole material and heel, colors, and helped picking out new laces in the right length. For the amounted of work needed I felt the price reflected that. I paid up front and was told they would be finished in a week. I picked them up the next Monday and they are perfect! The leather was cleaned, conditioned, shined and sealed. The new soles, heels and laces were great. I feel like they have given new life and look practically brand new. I found the customer service to be very pleasant and friendly and asked many times if they were right after trying them back on and inspecting the repairs. I will be bringing my business back here for any other shoe repairs I need. read more

I was told they would call me when when it was ready. Week and half later I called they said it was ready quoted me a price of 13 something and when my husband picked it up it was over $20. I was charged $18 for a zipper pull and it took a week to get back. The pull cost .50 cents, if that, and they carried the in their back room. When I went back to pick up the item, the woman was very nasty about it when I told her that $18 for a zipper pull was outrageous. Will never go back. read more

The people at the location are very nice. My problem is with the level of service they provide at pick up. The store Lacks organization, which makes the quality of service bad. I was told to pick up my shoes one week after dropping them off. I arrived on the date they requested. I spent 25 minutes waiting for them to try to find my pair of shoes and they were unsuccessful. I was told I can hang out and wait for the guy who bag shoes to come in to try to find them. It bothers me they wasted my time and did not seem to care or offer any type of discount for doing so. I will only go back one more time if they find my shoes. This company needs help developing a system for pickups. read more

I had a pair of old Justin cowboy boots that needed one more set of heels on them before being tossed out. The leather on the sides was cracking, they were on the 3rd or fourth set of heels, and the soles had been replaced already. My wife dropped them off for me one afternoon. That evening, she said they were going to put soles & heels on them and made her prepay. I went by the next morning to tell them to leave the soles alone. They made me wait about 20 minutes while they looked for them and when they brought them out, the soles had already been pulled off. I suspect they pulled them off while I was standing there to make sure they didn't have to refund our money. I ended up paying about $50 to have a pair of 15 year old, worn out boots repaired. I picked them up and wore them about 6-8 times before one of the replaced soles started pulling loose at the heel. I ended up throwing them away rather than taking the back to the shop. I will never walk in this shop again. read more

I took 2 pairs of motorcycle boots to City Shoe Repair and they did a great job. Both pairs were resoled perfectly. I pair was rejected by 3 other companies. They are stretching some Sidi boots that had become to narrow to wear at all. My highest recomendation. I will be back. read more

I have had purses dyed before & was charged $23.00 ea time. Lady was supposed to call to let me know if my new coach purse could be dyed after a test spot was done. When I didn't receive a call after a wk, I went in. They had dyed the purse and attempted to charge me $65.00. When I refused to pay it the owner was nasty and said he would strip the purse back to original color. I agreed and was told to pick it up on the following Tuesday. I just went in to pick it up, it was not stripped and he is refusing to give me my purse back unless I pay him. It was his suggestion as a solution to the issue yet he did not and will not follow through. He is now holding my new Coach purse hostage. Whatever you do, do NOT use this business. I have been a regular customer for years and I suppose this is why they felt as if they could demand whatever price they wanted and I would pay without question. Small claims court here we come. Learn from my situation and save yourself the headache. HORRIBLE BUSINESS PEOPLE, NASTY ATTITUDE AND ABOVE ALL ELSE, SIMPLY THIEVES. I will never return to this place and advise all to do same. It was a simple task of replacing pants zipper. I was quoted $13.80 and it was supposed to be completed next day. Two days later garment was ready yet. The repairman in front of me replaced the zipper lock instead of replacing the entire zipper and charged me full $13.80. I adamantly asked to replace a zipper as it was promised but was told that it would be $24 instead. This is an unfair practice and I will use other repair shops from now on. read more

I have a very cute Basset Hound who has an affinity for Leather and Wood. Unfortunately he ate a hole in my cowboy boots and an 8 inch circle off the corner of one of my leather couch cushions. I wish I could upload the pictures to show you what an amazing job these folks did. We live in Boone and had to travel to get there and it took about 3 weeks, but man was it worth it! I thought these things were gone for good. You can tell its been patched, but its a far better job that I ever imagined. Both Boots repaired and cleaned, and couch cushion repaired was just under $200 bucks. Glad to have found this place and highly recommend them. read more

Never again! I took a pair of Harley Davidson leather riding boots in, the sole of the boot had started to come off. As I was standing there listening to his talk about quality he proceeded to rip the other sole off the good boot!! Ok this has got to be fixed!! Also needed the pull tab on one sewed back on. Total cost for him to glue back the soles of my boots, one of which he ripped off and to sew the pull tab back 34.00. Ok not a bad but the pull tab was not sewn back on and after one month and wearing the boots a total of 3 times, the soles are coming back off! read more

Do not take anything you care about here! I naively entrusted them to restitch some metal work on my Manolo Blahniks. They broke off the loose pieces and discarded them, thus ruining my very expensive and awesome shoes. They tried to tell me the pieces were missing when I dropped the shoes off. Luckily, I had taken a picture of them on the counter when I dropped them off. That shot down their excuse, but they proceeded to overcharge me. They are completely incompetent! Drive to Charlotte or ship your shoes for repair somewhere where the people know what to do. read more

I swore off ever using City Shoe Shop a few years ago. I and most customers gasped in unpleasant surprise when the charges were announced. The crowning incident was once when a repair was promised less than a week after I left the shoes. I went in a week later and they had no record of the shoes. Just then I noticed them being worked on. When I returned, they had installed the wrong soles, yet charged a bundle and DID NOT APOLOGIZE for any of their errors. I asked for a little compensation, like a $7 bottle of water repellent. They refused. If you want arrogance and overcharging, use this business. read more

If you're looking for a cheap price, buy cheap shoes at Wal Mart or a store that sells plastic shoes, it's going to cost you to get nice leather boots or shoes repaired. I as well would give zero stars for city shoe repair in hickory if I could. After being a long time customer and making specific trips b/c I live over an hour away, I will never patron there again. I took 2 pair of Coach shoes to have the heels lowered, and upon inspection at pick-up, the end tacks were not flush with the heel and also a nail had been driven in one the wrong direction causing a hole. When I confronted them about this, not only did they not know what 'lying flush' meant, they outright lied and said the hole from the nail was there when I dropped them off! I left to make an appointment, & came back afterward to have them make it right. After making the comment 'I'm not trying to be a bitch', b/c after all as women we feel we have to go there sometimes, the girl who works there snapped at me saying 'please don't use that word in front of my girls!', yet she allows her girls to be subjected to poisonous fumes but all she's concerned about is a word! Also, it's a place of business, you need to expect people to say what's on their mind if not satisfied and to not be inhibited b/c children are present. Of course she's also the same one that told me she has her Tori Burch boots worked on there since I was hesitant to leave my shoes in the first place. After I thought about her saying that, this was probably a lie too bc I seriously doubt she even owns a pair of shoes that expensive. That's probably her line to make people feel good about leaving their property bc she knows what shoddy work they do! If I can afford to buy Tori Burch working in a shoe shop, then please hire me tomorrow! read more
