The important thing to remember about the City to Bay 'Fun' 'Run' is that you don't have to run. You don't *have* to run - you can walk! If you're really in the game to impress, you'd best run, but if you just want a bit of a saunter, you should really walk.
While I'm not unfit, I'm certainly not fit either. I ride my bike everywhere I go, but I'm no runner. So, yeh, I walked the City to Bay Fun Run.
A few cons to running this race:
- Everyone is fundraising at the same time of year, so it makes it harder to get donations out of your friends.
- Ideally, if you are really into running long distances, you don't want to do it on the same day as 40,000 other douchebags.
If you do decide to run, you'd best train. Conveniently there is all sorts of training workshops organised in the months leading up to the run. And you can make your own training program using this as as a guide: http://www.city-bay.org.au/training1.php
Important things to remember:
- Don't drink the night before the run
- Eat before you run, but not right before, a few hours before
- WATER. Duh
- Sunscreen
- Form a team or a partnership with a friend. This will make you more motivated both for the run and for the fundraising. read more
